Cats 4K atlas has been working fine for me on a lot of models I recently uploaded, but you gotta check to see if there are any fuck ups. So, far I’ve only seen little cuts in the hand and slight discoloration in the face on one particular model, but the other 5 or 6 I did looked perfect. If you do it, just make sure it’s 4k.

That last stint without TTS was rough. I really need to be able to communicate beyond snail marker.

I never did manage to get the exact same effect as in the webm. In the unity sdk it looks all fine and dandy but when you use it ingame you run into a problem you would't have noticed in the SDK. It's the fact that there's actually other geometry (i.e: the world, tables, roofs, chairs, etc.). Those things show up through it and in some cases block out the full view.
It does however still look quite good in a moderately open area.

Windows Mixed Reality

HTC Vive
- most expensive, average controllers, bad microphone, best tracking technology. Can track legs and other body parts if you buy special tracking puck accessories, but it doesn't come cheap.

if you know a friend who has VR, ask them to give you a demo first. Not everyone has a stomach for VR and while you do build tolerance over time some people just can't handle it and you wouldn't want to waste your money being a guinea pig.

Upgrade video card to something like a 1060. Cpu will regularly struggle with VRChat because it's badly optimized pile of Unity but might be fine for other VR games.

Eh depends. I am using a current consumer Oculus but for about 100 hours I played VRChat using a four-year-old DK2, the second gen Oculus developer kit. It had lower resolution, worse FOV and higher latency but none of that stuff really mattered. What I noticed most of all was the lack of motion controllers limiting me to a talking head while everyone else could interact with the environment.

All current gen VR has motion controllers. If the "next generation" of vr hardware comes out and all the new kits are packing full-body tracking of feet and eyes or whatever that will be the next essential requirement. If the next generation is just higher resolution or wider field of view you'll probably be fine ignoring it, especially if it raises the computer requirements even higher.

Everything is going to be obsolete soon, but developers will aim for support on the first generation for as long as possible. The main thing to worry about is tracking. You can read up on Vive tracker 2.0, and nobody knows what Oculus is going to do. As far as I could tell, a better tracking system for roomscale movement, and that's about it. There's also the far-off possibility of Valve actually releasing the knuckle controllers for the Vive, presumably some time after they release Half Life 3
The two systems are pretty evenly balanced at the moment. If your gut's telling you to go for the Vive then go for it if you have the cash.

So I'm using a squirtle model with mixed vr and the model seems to 'dance' endlessly (shuffling his feet). The shoulders are also quite high, like the model is shrugging.

Gonna add, I have an Oculus with two sensors and I lose tracking on my controllers when I hold them directly behind my back when facing the camera. The cameras have a blind spot there but just for the controllers. This is annoying because two sensors are just fine to track the headset 360 in a small room but now and then I find my hands aren't working because I've let myself face exactly the opposite direction to the cameras.

I have two sensors 5 feet apart on opposite corners of my desk. I stand the same distance away from my desk and between the two sensors. This is right in the middle of the optimal play area dimensions. I turn my back to the desk and my controllers lose position tracking because they are occluded by my body. I'm a scrawny manlet so I'm not blocking them by much, but it's enough to mess the up.

This is the recommended basic Rift layout and it produces the same problem that people have with the WMD. I need to buy a usb extension cable and rearrange my room to the experimental 360 tracking positions to prevent it.

Yeah, you get what you pay for. The Touch controllers are great, the Oculus screen is better than the cheap LCD displays in most of the windows models and Oculus has more experience and technical support in the VR field. But WMD is half the price. For some people that's worth the downsides.

I approached this from the perspective of having used regular Trail Renderer in the past. As far as I remember, I put the prefab on my finger, made the pen thing tiny, and that was that. I'm guessing it came with an animation, which I would have just assigned to Fingerpoint in the Overrides.

You only need to do it once.
