Play with the ingame height in system settings first, swap between seated/standing mode a few times. If that doesn't work, just manually adjust the viewball downwards- sometimes odd posture adjustments due to disproportionate limbs makes your character stand in an odd way that makes their standing still height different than their walking height- I notice it the most when their arms are larger than usual, as they spread their legs out slightly which drops their head down

Is there some trick to not having my polygons/shape keys explode when editing a mesh? Should I be trying to use delete or dissolve? Does it somehow matter if I do it before or after atlasing? Sometimes I'm able to remove polygons just fine, but other times it screws everything up.

More specifically, I merged my meshes like normal, then made some changes to the face due to noticing overlapping/coplanar polygons, tested the shapekeys and it worked just fine. Then I atlased and removed a handful of hair polygons and now everything is broken.

I have backup files saved in stages of course, I'm just tired of having to redo things if it can be avoided.

I do all my editing from the .blend files, have never re-imported the .fbx to edit, so I don't think that's the problem.. I'm guessing it must have something to do with atlasing or flipping normals because that's all I did besides deleting geometry.. So I guess it won't be too bad if that's all I have to re-do.

I've had a variant to the problem.
Mic buzzes all the time, usually it's not much and not a big deal. But every program with audio I load seems to make it buzz more. So, if I want to play a game, stream, have push-to-talk app on, and maybe have Steam up, the buzz gets so loud nobody can hear me.
Luckily that doesn't impact doing VRChat alone much.

Check the shape keys on your model in Blender.
There should be some that (if you translated properly) looks like "Ah," "Your," and "There," and if you move them to 100% they make the mouth into the shapes of those sounds.
Use the Cats viseme generator with those shape keys set, and then once exported into Unity you should have all the shape keys you need to match all the vrc_v_"" visemes.

If you translated your shape keys and don't have the mouth noises, check all the shape keys and see if there are some you can use that make similar mouth movements.

If you don't have any shape keys that move the mouth, well, good luck and enjoy editing that mesh.

That's the big one, though it seems most of the yellow-level armature warnings will be more apparent with full-body tracking than just normal VR.

There's also stuff like tails acting weird if they're too tightly angled to the hips, legs acting weird if the shin is longer than the thigh, and issues with distance and rotation between bones. Most of this I still haven't really figured out how to solve.

You might need to reload from before doing fix bones and instead fix the bones manually (assuming the hip bone was there to begin with).
Tupper's original (pre-Cats) tutorial has a section that tells you how to do this.
Then post the model on the VRCat thread for the plugin so it gets fixed in the next update.

There were so many bones before I used Fix Bones, like 3 different pelvis bones, mouth bones, cheek bones, etc. so Fix Bones really helped get rid of all of that shit, now all I'm missing is eye bones, and the hip bone. Hair bones too, although that's less important.
So if possible it seems like just making the hip and eye bones would be easier than dealing with a million of the original bones.

But I don't know how, and I can't find the Tupper tutorial you're talking about.
