Controllers themselves are meh, but as other anon said, tracking is severely limited.
It's fine for other games, but I certainly feel crippled in VRChat compared to other VR users.

Pros: Cheap, more portable, easier to set up, good headset options.
Cons: Limited hand tracking, no body tracking, can't adjust lens width if you need it.

Does walking around IRL with a vive and roomscale set up actually make you walk in-game too or do i need the pucks for that?

You walk around, it just doesn't track your legs so they move kinda as you do
