You have the wrong shapekeys selected when you created eyetracking. You can take your blender file, delete the old eyetracking shapekeys, make sure you have the right settings, and redo the eyetracking, then re-export. If you keep your first model in unity you can copy paste all your settings over to the fixed version.

You don't necessarily NEED to know anything beyond that to get a model in to the game, that's the point. You SHOULD optimize your model, but what do you think a new person is going to do, watch the 5 minute long video and upload their horribly optimized avatar as easily as possible, or the 2 hour long one just so they can be "optimized" which means nothing to a lot of people because it's very nice to do and you should do it but no one has any way of noticing (aside from people like Tupper who run the game) whether you do it or not.

The point I'm making is, yes, people "should" watch the 2 hour long video so they can be optimized, but I wouldn't expect people to watch a 2 hour long video because that's fucking ridiculous, especially when you can technically do the same thing (but you'll be unoptimized, but no one would even know, so as a new player you probably don't care) in 5 minutes.
I'm not advocating for not optimizing your avatar, I'm just saying to expect people to optimize their avatars by watching a 2 hr long video is silly.

Is avatar optimization technically a meme? I remember one time everyone switched into Nikei once and people reported that the frame rate was no different. Now I'm sure Nikei isn't THE most optimized model out there, but I'm willing to bet it's probably more optimized than most people's avatars. The thing is, when you have 30 people all in the same area, the frames are going to be shit no matter if they're optimized or not. There's a certain point where the number of people is so high that your frames are going to be fucked regardless, and we probably already pass that point in every single meet-up nowadays.

There are already premade models on VRCmods if someone is somehow willing to go through the trouble of installing Unity and the SDK to upload a model but thinks finding and importing their own special character is too much work.

What exactly is the fabled playmaker update of legend that I hear people talk about sometimes? Whenever I ask people just say vague shit like it'll let you do so much more with the game but give no examples.

If I import a properly done (in terms of atlasing and meshes) model into Unity, that's one mesh. Let's call this 'Model A' to make it easier to refer to.

If I then import other models into the same scene (let's call them Accessory 1 and 2) to 'combine' them into Model A via armature, does Accessory 1 and 2 still count as seperate meshes and thus my actual number of meshes if exported to VR Chat is now actually 3?

I ask this mostly because whenever I import 'Model A' with both 'Accessory 1' and 'Accessory 2' mesh-joint to 'Model A' in Blender, I can't seem to hide the accessories' visibility (they're always showing regardless of whether the box is checked or not). Whereas if I follow the first method described above, it actually does hide when I check the visibility box.

Is there something I'm missing in Unity to properly hide models with accessories built-in, or is it more of something I should've done in Blender beforehand?

Which works (hides them) if I import the accessories as seperately to the main model and shove them into the appropriate area. But I've always wondered whether they count as seperate meshes since they're not from the same model, which makes me wonder then if the guy in the video is actually using a very unoptimised model.

The shape key thing though I've read about before but it's otherwise rarely mentioned as far as I can see, so I've been doing it through the method I'm most familiar with.

Vrchat doesn't let you do scripting in worlds outside what's provided in the SDK. Playmaker is a unity addon that allows for drag and drop finite state programming and what not. It'd allow for more complex interactions in worlds and for people to make actual game experiences instead of static shit.

the void club isnt actually a /vrg/ map, it was just a specific private /vrg/ instance created because there were no /vrg/ maps. it also predates the changes to how public/private maps work.

nobody uses it anymore because it is a private only instance and we dont do that, not to mention voidclub these days is really bloated and laggy, and there are other /vrg/ worlds now that werent around before that make better spawns

From Beyond (1986) A horror/effects movie based off an HP Lovecraft story. Some great practical creature effects, a goofy story that involves a device that allows you to see beings/monsters in a parallel dimension, but begins to change you. One of my all time favorite movies.

CATS is picky about detecting bone chains. You an manually re-parent bones by selecting multiple bones in the armature edit mode (making sure to select the bone you want to parent to as the LAST bone so it's the 'active' selection) then hitting ctrl + P I believe? and selecting "keep offset" to re-parent all the bones you selected to the final bone WITHOUT moving their position.
You also only need to select the first bone of each long chain if you do this since the children bones will follow their parent bone to be under the new parent in order.
