I think the lay-out itself is good, but the way you have it now where the avatars are just in closed off rooms behind the pictures doesn't feel all that comfy, and that nice campfire is gone. I wear glasses, and I never thought about it until it was too late but my glasses ended up scratching the oculus lenses. I got it fixed with some lcd scratch repair stuff but before that if you are gonna wear glasses I recommend you put some of these on it.

Right now the biggest hurdle is that it's split into a ton of different meshes based on the various breaks.
So for example the "head" mesh is actually the fully broken head, and then the parts of the horn that get chipped and broken off are another. So there's a lot of merging, making sure there aren't any doubles, and general clean up before even attempting to model anything.

I have ptosis in my left eye, so my eyelid permanently covers about 30% of the top of the pupil, and VR still works fine for me. I think the fact you can actually move your head around in the 3d space makes the illusion work without needing fully functioning binocular vision.

Your layout implies that the pedestal areas might be totally exposed to the central area - they are hidden in my new layout for performance reasons. On the old layout, I have walls, and the pedestal areas are far away enough that there's plenty of occlusion. I need to make design decisions to force this occlusion now, as the pedestal sections are much closer and all facing the central area. You can also always see other people in the mirror, regardless of their location.

Also another tip to have the pedestals closer while reducing lag, you can put the pedestals on a toggle, so someone can hit a button and all the pedestals will appear, or they'll all disappear. The Kami's Palace map has this where there's a shitload of pedestal avatars inside, but you have to hit a button to see them.

I'm not keen on hiding avatars behind buttons. I don't like having to hit buttons to turn things on that could otherwise just be on to begin with. Like, if I were to go down that route, I might as well just have all the avatars in the one place, then toggle each category using buttons, which I don't want to do.

I also can't think of a way to do what I want to do with the world, without the second tier. Everything is focused on the semi-circle. Everything beyond that is just kind of background material. I want to have the little forest area. It gives the map a focal point (the mirror), the pedestal areas branching off the mirror (the idea being that people go pick up an avatar and return to the mirror), and then the forest provides a few secondary focal points for people to be comfy. Maybe the pedestal rooms would be more comfy after I add ceilings (I was thinking about adding panosphere ceilings to kind of match the skybox) and fix the windows (though I'm not sure how).

Everyone else is watching some dorky movie, so I did some lonely riftcripple sleep experiments. Wasn't quite comfy enough to make me want to /sleep alone in VR/ tonight, but it seems plausible.

When lying on my side, the bulk of the headset forces my head up vertically a little more than I like, but hanging the HMD off the side of the pillow fixes this mostly. Surprisingly the rift headphones didn't dig into my ear even on the pillow side. I have one of those peanut-cross-section ergonomic pillows, maybe that helps. Switching between the VRcover vegan leather meme and the original rift foam, I think the foam is a bit more comfortable, but the HMD runs hot enough I preferred the cooler feel of the leather.

Re: paraplegia, I took this shot with my head in the most comfy position, so it's kind of possible to look cute without FBT. The rest of my body is still squatting like an idiot though, clipped into the bed. Got a question related to rift sleep. I remember Bananas used to have a kinect and was able to lay down while using it. How did they do it?

I've rearranged my whole room, got my kinect v2 raised high and pointing down at my bed at a 30 degree angle and it still has trouble finding the skeleton when lying, from side or front. I can stand or sit but once I go below that the tracking goes bad. The only way to get a better angle would be to mount the damn thing on my ceiling. Was bananas rotating the playspace or trackers to fake it, like when climbing?
