It's not well designed, it's a frankenstein made out of parts I found on deviantart to escape TDA/maid sameface syndrome. Eh, I think the touch controllers are a little overrated. Sure, they seem amazing when going from the Vive dildos to them, but they're still not really ideal. I always feel like I'm holding controllers. They're not lightweight enough to feel otherwise. The Knuckles honestly look a lot more appealing to me simply because of that strap that goes around your palm so you don't have to hold the controller. Individual finger tracking is neat too although I wish it could track your fingers when they're not holding the controller. Sadly we're not at that level of technology yet.

The way I see it future AR and VR tech are going to just be the same thing. I don't see any future where these two don't completely converge because if you have an AR hmd then it should be able to do VR too. Tried Thumper in VR but ended up refunding it after 45 minutes. It was very polished with nice visuals and music, and the gameplay was OK but it played more like a platformer than a rhythm game. The focus felt too much on grinding through levels for the challenge instead of immersing you to the music through gameplay.

I rather play 1001 Spikes for hard platformer and Beat Saber or Airtone for rhythm game.

Oof. Try this:

1. separate out the face mesh or anything with shapekeys on it into a separate mesh (separate by box selection is easiest, turn off visible culling) . Sometimes "separate by material" in CATS will work well too.
2. Select the entire body mesh, hit space, type "tris to quads"
3. Go to object mode, apply a decimation modifier and choose "unsubdivide" as the strategy.

unsubdivide usually preserves a lot better than collapse, while also allowing for deformations to keep working, unlike planar.

I don't think there's an easy way to turn off FBT while in game. Or turn it back on once you're in 3-point mode. Especially on rift + trackers, since no matter what I've tried, inevitably the lighthouse tracking space loses its alignment, and I have to go recalibrate with that automatic tool.

It's reasonable to do this though. Unrigged avatars help a lot. The easiest way to do this is to copy your main avatar fbx, then reconfigure it in unity as "generic". Then you can pose the bones how you want, upload it as a new avatar, and enjoy a static pose version of you for when frames get awfully bad.

Honestly, it's iffy at the moment. VRChat is 95% of this general for a few reasons, but the main one is that no other VR game is that compelling right now. The usual nonVRC games mentioned are beat saber, onward, pavlov, and maybe skyrim VR, since that's literally just skyrim, with a (lazy) VR interface.

That being said, VR is magical in a way impossible to communicate from screenshots and videos. You have to try it in person, at a store or an arcade, or if a friend has it. If you try that and are interested, VR may still be for you. And then you might play VRChat after all. It's not so bad.

And if it sucks, then wait for the next generation of VR headsets, and feel good that you saved $350+ on dust collectors.

How low did unsubdivide go? Did you try running the python script to see if there was a another tiny mesh hiding a bunch of polys? On my model, there was a disgusting 80k polys in this hair ornament, just because the modeler was lazy. You can sometimes just straight delete stuff like that, or at least heavily apply collapse decimation, since it won't deform and it's small.

And honestly, as long as you atlas to 1 material, your 165k model is going to cause less lag than the average 20k tri model with 10 materials. You can reasonably go over 65k tris as long as you split your mesh manually so one <65k mesh has all the shapekeys you want for visemes/eye tracking. Rename that mesh "Body" in unity, and the rest whatever you want, and it'll work, with one drawcall per 65k polys.

There's a KS for a grip that goes around the touch controllers that includes a strap and basically turns them into knuckles, called Mamut touch grip. $30 preorder, but the site says they were expected to ship at the end of June and AFAIK hasn't been updated since. I was gonna by them but it's starting to look like vaporware. It also seems to extend the handle for the touch, something it really needs since with big hands it basically feels like the only thing holding it to your hand is your ring finger.

I had this exact same thing happen to me in GORN but it was a large half-used candle and it fell onto carpet. You can never get every single shard up, even if you sweep and vacuum multiple times from multiple angles. Just resign yourself to the fact that one day you're going to step on that patch of floor/carpet in just a peculiar way that you could replicate with a broom or vacuum, that it will release a heretofore hidden glass shard into your foot and you'll see an hour digging into the bloody, calloused part of your foot only to never be able to find the shard.

I think it's novel approach. Now they don't need to care whether the audio syncs up perfectly to the game as the players can just adjust their position and timing to their convenience. It also encourages more physically active playing.

Does anyone have experience ripping 3d models from visual novels?

I'm specifically trying to get something from the Baldr series by GIGA.

It has a bunch of .assets folder files, so I've tried extracting using unity assets bundle extractor, but I can only get .pngs for textures. I haven't found any character models, and some don't let me export because they're "unknown asset format."

Do I just keep trying to extract random files until I hit a character model, or is there a better way?

No, it's simply caused by the difference between your actual proportions and the proportions of the avatar. You can do things like adjust your player height before you t-pose and use playspace mover to get your foot trackers to line up with your avatar's feet but doing so will misalign your viewball and likely cause your arms to be fucked. Most people prefer to have their upper body tracking more accurately and thus just get used to the fact that their feet don't line up exactly with their avatar's. The only real way to fix it is to use an avatar that perfectly matches your body's proportions. Hopefully the new full body IK system will have some sort of scale modifiers to help fix this. I have it and I find it difficult to sleep with, I usually end up laying down on my side with my arm kind of cradling the side so the ear phones aren't getting squished or on my back but then the hard plastic is pressing into the back of my head, sometimes inducing headaches at the worst and at the least just lightly hurting my head.
I love sleeping in VR, but I find myself usually just setting the headset aside after around 20 minutes to about 4 hours.

It's amazingly immersive. I like silent beach in particular because I have a ceiling fan and on that map the palm trees blow in the breeze. That really tricks your brain when you first wake up. Also, waking up next to your vrfu every morning is great. It's a particular closeness that you can't experience otherwise over the internet.

It seems like some people take better to VR sleep than others. I can drift off for a few minutes here and there but can't get any serious sleep in VR.

I would not be too hyped for this yet even if it were a consumer product sold to us. So far, StarVR has been a disappointment. Just because they're coming out with an updated headset with more features and better specs doesn't mean they necessarily fixed the actual problems with their previous headset, which largely had to do with optical distortion/eyestrain, both of which hasn't been solved by any other party before, in a lab we know of or not. There is a fix though. Take the stretched arms example. If I could get rid of my hand 1:1 movement and change into proportional movement there would be no issues. I'd change floor height, match up feet, waist,etc and then activate proportional hand movement. So instead of me moving my arms 50% out and having them max out in-game, it moves my avatars hands at a less than 1:1 ratio so that I need to actually stretch my arms out to stretch them out. It would track the distance from your hands to your head in relation to distance from headset/max distance instead of solely "how far has hand moved."

That would solve the problem and it is entirely possible to do. It would also feel a whole lot better overall except on extremely disproportionate models.

I'm going to try Electronauts later today, since it's in the humble bundle sale (and on steam). It looks like a cross between a soundboard, rudimentary sequencer, and DJ EQ and FX. I'll post an impression later.

There are a couple of actual 2 track DJ mixers in VR. Some anon a few threads ago bought Vinyl Reality, and they mentioned a different one too. You can also try out TheWaveVR for free. It has a 2 track DJ thing with equalizers and FX. No custom songs though, justa bunch of preloaded tracks.

It's the fixed setup that puts me off most, really. In sound stage you just spawn stuff in, plop it somewhere in space and wire it up. You can build pretty elaborate setups using roomscale while Electronauts limits you to 3 spots you can to constantly switch.

Shame the soundstage dev got bought out by Google and took it off steam. He released source files but I'm not good enough with unity to know what to do with them.

For the first month or so after I got VR and started spending long hours at the meetups, I slept horribly. 1-2 hours a night, sometimes not at all. Lately I've normalized back to 8 hours of sleep of sleep a night though. Damage is not at its intended values at all because the bullet mechanics are being completely rebuilt. I'm not sure how the damage model on these flying sentries works. They seem almost immune to bullets, aside from one time I killed one with a single hit, and it seems to be possible to disable the flight independent of actually killing it.
