would have been useless for my map, as far as i understood the probes only affect moving objects, but the map is pretty much all static. When I built a grid you had certain parts in shadows where your avatar and objects became black. It must have been due o the way i set up lighting to get it as saturated as it is. The Lighting is all baked too. Probes would have affected: Gondolas, drawers, your avatar, the cups

avatars are lit by the light probes if you have them, unless your running mixed lighting. If you run mixed lighting you only get primary lighting + reflection probes (if they exists, you will have the primary skybox one though). If you're getting it used though, it's iffy. 1st gen VR shit can go wrong in a bunch of ways, and that warranty helps. For the vive the weak point are the controller touchpads. For the rift it's the headphones and ribbon cable. I'd say the most you should pay for a used rift is ~$250, depending on the condition.

Most people just stick to their vive mic. It's bad but it's clear enough for people to hear you. You can easily tape a microphone to the headset though.

You know I already had the idea of doing this so I could use the wink shape key without having some bullshit with the automatic blinking making the eye extra closed. Didn't make the connection between that and using it to cancel other gestures though.
So if you had a sword and wanted it to make a clang noise when you triggered an animation, would the same rules apply? You'd have to use the sword out gesture on the left hand and then the clang noise on the right hand so it overrode the lack thereof and then the idle animation or whatever the default relaxed hand has as being negative for the sound effect.
Would that even work with a sound effect or anything that isn't a shape key because they can't go into negatives?

I have a 3gb 1060 and an i5. Frames only chug when I look at a mirror. Setting supersampling to 0.8 means I get ~50fps when looking at the mirror in the default home and generally stays around 30 in meetups without avatars blocked and no mirrors.
There's some glitch makes the in-game frame counter not display less than 11fps but I swear it gets as low as 1fps if it decides to shit itself. I don't notice much of a difference between 1.0 and 0.8 supersampling but your tastes may vary.

I have a similar CPU (i5 2500k) OC'd to 4.5 GHz, twice the RAM + an rx480 8GB. I barely survive big meetups with mid/low 20s FPS (otherwise good experience, though) You're going to get absolutely #rekt if you ever try joining a weekend meetup with that SB CPU since you can't overclock a non-k. Big meetups that have 30-40 people and even thinking about stepping into the pug will make you want to puke from VR sickness caused by low FPS.

If you can't afford a new computer, at least get yourself a used 2500k or 2600K and overclock the shit out of it + get at least a mid-range GPU.

I think VRChat's development is a little staggered at the moment and it might be due to both difficulty in wanting to fundamentally make something where anyone can create anything but also being stuck in a game engine that hamstrings updates for the time being. but I also think that their investors are leery due to copyright.

However, that doesn't mean VRChat isn't being developed by some skilled people. Remember that VRchat is pretty scuffed because the people behind vrchat aren't the ones making all the content, generally speaking. The polish on the world transition tips is a sign of things to come I think. Plus a lot of it was built when VR tools sdks and drivers were janky as fuck and still in a state of flux. It's hardware like the knuckles EV2/3 that show the polish vr will have.

Look at how they implemented the oculus touch controllers? Better tools means things work better. I still think they should have migrated to unity 2018 sooner, but there's very clearly reasons they're not allowed to talk about.

If you check the canny.io lately the tone from the admins and devs is that "this is all part of something we're doing, you'll understand soon" meaning they're getting close to a much bigger release of something fundamental. This could mean more restrictions on us, but on the flipside, Valve allows full on nudity now. If this could mean VRChat could become less restrictive I'm all for it.

Download the experience "chocolate", the demo for compound, get pavlov (but wait till you have your vr legs before playing).
Download "sightline, the chair". "Virtual Virtual Reality", Keep talking and nobody explodes is great if you like playing games with friends and family.
There's actually some pretty great experiences on the windows store too and they run way better than on steamvr due to platform accelleration.
Make sure you're running both the beta for steamVR and the beta for steam and the beta for windows mixed reality for steamVR if you want the best experience.
You may want to use GRC's "InSpector" to disable spector and meltdown patches, WMR relies heavily on AVX extensions and if you're on intel it won't perform like it should, which is honestly better then oculus and steam if we're being honest.

Higher resolution than the vive, better async reprojection, does literally everything as good or better than the rift with less usb requirements with the only exception being that there's an occlusion zone if your controllers are not moving that will kick in if the 180deg stereo fisheye cameras cannot see the leds on the controllers, which you get used to pretty quickly.

Is your vision bad enough to need glasses 100% of the time even with the VR lenses so close to your face? I can get away without wearing my glasses in vr, it's my astigmatism that can't be corrected without a lens of some kind and leads to a bit of blur no matter what I do.

Okay so I got a minor issue.

I have some world particles, they act like world particles, but to each player its displayed locally (every client will see the particles slightly different, and the particles in the mirror are different than the ones off the mirror)
All the relevant particles are set to world, and are off the armature, the particles that are behaving weird are sub-emitted particles though.

Anyone know what's up?

How much do they differ? You're never going to get physics-based particles to match up perfectly since each player is running their own sim, but you can mess with the settings to try to reduce the differences.

I've heard rumors that the vrc mirrors run another separate physics sim "inside" them a well. I feel like that's false and it's just a camera + render texture, but it's vrchat so who fucking knows. Maybe they are just rendering the world twice.

They're pretty different though.

For reference I'm essentially spawning a bunch of essentially large spheres (about half a player's height) and just having them drop on the map. They collide with players so people can push them around. But it seems that for some people sometimes they just don't appear and drop through the floor, or when they do appear they're often at different positions so people couldn't be playing with the same spheres or such.

The physics simulations between clients are going to diverge a lot even if you do get the initial positions right. Are you using a very tiny spawn shape for your particle system? I don't think the randomization of spawn position within the shape is synced between clients either.

The batteries have proven to be a huge pain in my windows mixed reality headset, even with very expensive rechargeables and swapping them out. The lithium ions in the vive wands are great and they're small to reduce the weight. I'm sure they'll be awesome. There are guides online. Its been a while for me but I think the main difference is that you'll want to rename the text file with the mod list to SkyrimVR instead of SkyrimSE, or maybe it was SE to VR, I can't remember. Whichever one it isn't make it that one. Use Nexus Mod Manager, I know you'll hate it but it's way more willing to work with VR, some people including myself can't get MO to work with VR despite following steps exactly. Also you probably can't make a Bash Patch so don't get too greedy with level lists.

Fortnite? same thing. VR needs that cultural moment to take off. VRChat flirted with it where it almost reached critical mass and they're riding high on the popularity that has continued- but the game isn't polished or widely available enough to overflow like they did. fortnite and minecraft were both in early access when they exploded to popularity too.
Both games have a "building" element. VRChat does too. The sims is also popular for that reason.
There is a massive potential to explode vr in general, and vrchat is the one app that I've seen that has driven more people to buy headsets than anything else.
I want more and better hardware. This can be accelerated by demand.
