War Dust is REALLY low quality. Like, Big Rigs tier. There's nothing I can really say is right about it.

As for Onward: It's fun at first, but there's very little to learn. Most of the weapons are practically identical, or shit. You don't need to aim well and the recoil is irrelevant. There's no flow between rounds, just a set of completely independent ones that eventually culminates in a win or loss that no-one even remembers. The maps don't facilitate the kind of gameplay it wants and there's, what, 12 of them in total with literally one added this year. It frequently devolves into two players circling each other on opposite sides of the map. The objective is mostly just an annoyance as the round just suddenly ends with no warning when it's completed, the only defence to this is to camp the objective at all times and even then sometimes someone can find an absolute nigger spot where they can just put the code through a wall. It's better as a large scale game, as we proved with the mod. The philosophy and actual execution are totally mismatched.

Okay, that makes a fair bit of sense. I imagine the Oculus store sale on Onward will continue to tomorrow so maybe I'll just buy Pavlov and if that scratches my itch enough I'll hold off on Onward and War Dust. Maybe I'll save that money for the release of Contractors.

It's a shame neither are on VivePort where I could try it with their trial.

Do you have any other recommendations for other games? My Rift comes in tomorrow and I've got the games it comes with, Pavlov, The Climb, Lone Echo, and Echo Combat currently.

In contrast, Pavlov has unique feeling weapons, and if you aim badly and ignore recoil you'll achieve nothing. Each round affects the next, so there's a lot more options with load outs to consider, and you can salvage equipment between rounds, so the final result feels very important. You start off with 6 action points, actions points also being the initiative. Because you have a brain and eyes, you gain 3 more action points. Thus equaling a total of 9.
Now for combat it's simply using a part.
So if I wanted to use the dual pistols, I'd read this.
"[Action/3/0-1] Shooting Attack 2 + Chain Attack 1"
You'd spend 3 ap, moving you down the initiative. You could shoot one area away, as 0(melee) and 1(range) is listed. So then you roll a d10, the red button in my world, and if you get above a 6 you succeed and hit the enemy.
If you were to be hit by the same weapon, the dual pistols, you'd take two damage. You then be told what category of your body is hit and you choose what you damage. So if you were hit in the head, you could damage the eyes and brain. You then start at 6 ap next round of combat.

Yes, because the headset is essentially a dependent console that requires a pseudo-OS to work. You used to be able to run without Oculus, but they patched that out.

You can use both your controllers or mouse to change the settings and videos, mouse movements causes the window in the screenshot to show up in vr and leaving it idle will make it disappear. Only problem I ever had with it is that webms don't show up in the file explorer but they will play if you drag and drop them from a window for some reason.

I've got mine from vroptician.com and I wish I had done it earlier, it's a lot more comfortable and the ugly fresnel lens artifacts that show up when you're looking at something bright are almost non-existant. Highly recommend to anyone that uses glasses in vr to get themselves prescription lenses.

It's quite fun, very spooky, and there is literally no other survival horror exploration game for vr yet.
The only bad thing I can think of is that it's ported to VR and the controls suffer because of it. The in game survival guide with instructions in it has no icons for the buttons so it doesn't tell you what the controls are in game and you have to google it. Worst offender is the crouch button being necessary to crouch instead of actually fucking bending your IRL knees. The camera will reset its height if you crouch without the button and reset back when you stand up again. Crouching also drops the logs you're carrying so you actually need to use the function.
Other than that though things work pretty well. It has more than fulfilled the niche for survival horror in vr and it has multiplayer too so you can re-enact Abel Tasman's voyage to Polynesia with your friends.

The problem is that it's range of tracking isn't 360 degree around the player. I am honestly really impressed with how much improvement the updates to the odyssey have made but the true limitation is in the hardware. Tracking cameras bound to the front of the headset means you'll have trouble reaching behind you. All of his examples were less than a second outside of the sensors' range which is not bad if you're quickly grabbing something but if you're holding a bow at full draw you'll lose your fine control eventually. Pretty sure Tsukare has that headset so you could get him to stress test it in game if you want more than the advertising this guy's channel is.
