great movie, would watch again 11/10
Second forkissingcuties in vr!
The most fun I've ever had in a VR game was when I took a sidearm to my head in Pavlov and I killed myself.
Why is suicide so much fun in VR?
why am I up so early anons? I made the second and third NA meets last night and by all manner of reasoning I should be ded and hung over.
>smol cuties.
>>238716164
Too much rimlight. Looks like fucking mario super galaxy
>Missionaries will be sent to VR worlds
I've already seen truly religious people in VRchat complaining about lack of faith and going on about how most us will go to hell. Many churches run their own missionary programs, one of these days some churches and perhaps even people from different faiths like Islam are gonna start joining VRchat and trying to convert people
>>238716107
It makes people laugh if you do it in the right contexts, even though it completely screws your economy for the next round.
>>238716107
Lack of consequences most likely
In other news whats it called when you feel like you drank but didn't actually drink.
>>238716313
there's unironic sunday sermons in Altspace. I cringe every time they tweet about it.
>>238716313
I have seen church attendance being done in AltspaceVR with actual "priests".
If you're a riftlet, you will occasionally see upcoming events, and it seems to be a frequent thing in that game.
Practicing religion in VR is a no brainer.
>>238716313
Remember that guy who kept spamming the thread with his church service earlier in the year?
>>238716449
Yeah, I think he called himself Father Thomas or something. Kind of miss seeing his posts followed by people telling him to fuck off.
>>238716038 (Cross-thread)
The skeleton is in the mesh, I looked at the weight painting it and was sollid red right up to the edge which I read makes the fingers 'fold' rather than 'bend'.
Here are the bones in Blender.
I;m not too bothered by it not, without outlines its hard to see and the avatar in all other respects is perfect (minus some typical skirt clipping).
>>238716906
it's probably because they're not long enough, mainly. Your fingers are getting pulled backwards a bit too much. nbd!
>>238716906
>>238717026
whoops that's the wrong image.
Is there a way I could use the Rift or Vive controllers as a presentation pointer/mouse?
Sometimes I don't want to have the HMD on my head but I prefer the touch controllers as input devices.
I want to use them as a staple x360 controller in games, its usage is really similar to the joycons from the switch and I'd imagine it works well with racing games, specially the Rift controller. (Trigger for acceleration, grip for braking and reverse on the right hand, left hand joystick for turning and auxiliary buttons for handbrake and etc).
Is this even possible?
>>238717090
in this case it's because of the wrist joint, probably.
>>238717108
Your first problem is they only connect to the headset.
>>238717234
I was able to solve that by keeping the headset always on by having something near the proximity sensor, but the rest was unknown to me.
>>238717259
Thank you, and for anyone wanting to do the same for the Rift, I found this:
https://github.com/rajetic/auto_oculus_touch
Happy Hanukkah everyone.
https://www.vrcw.net/
I'm not sure how many of these are not marked public, or if they're just scraping the database now, but at one time there was about a thousand unlisted worlds

Thinking more about it, if its easy to just harvest people's avis, I'll probably find a generic one from someone else, plus grab one that has the right shape for what I'd like (swapping textures seems like it wouldn't be too hard as far as easy make-your-own work).
>>238712417 (Cross-thread)
>If said Anon wants to stay Anon in-game
No, its not like that.
I was saying that because I've been socializing anonymously for so long, its hard to transition to having an identity.
I mean, it feels different choosing a visual avatar for your body in VR, as opposed to choosing a random image to be your picture on a forum or whatever.
>>238718218
I' was kinda similar, eventually decided to just choose a nice looking rare avatar, purely because it was nice looking and no one else uses it, the more time you spend around people the more you'll open up and wanna be an individual that belongs. First time I met anyone from 4chan and heard their voice, made me feel really fucking weird since everyone was anon before but you get used to it after a while, separating anon posters and the people you physically talk to.
>>238709653 (Cross-thread)
God I wish that wasn't me!
>>238718218
Alternatively have a lot of anime avatars that are generic and switch often, that should help.
Being tiny also helps because VR users rarely notice small models due to their FoV.
(short models barely get noticed and if they're mute it's rare for a group to give you attention and focus solely on you if you're new and you're a small model)
>>238718607
Yeah, that's why I can't just do the easy choice of a cute girl avi.
I would feel almost obligated to be mute.
>>238718738
See, that's something I want to avoid, cuz when I think of "My avatar is a generic anime character", it makes me think of when Chris-chan draws himself.
>>238718738
>>238718885
Addendum: can you float/fly in VRchat?
i.e. can you be small, but still eye-level?
>>238718985
Only with full body tracking or puppet avatars.
>>238719130
>Full body tracking
Would that require extra tracking nodes (beyond the head and hands)? Cuz I might upgrade eventually.
>puppet avatars
Wuzzat?
>>238718885
When I meant to say generic anime avatar, I meant for you to pick something like a boatgirl, mmd tda model or a kemono (if you want to get flamed).
You can also be something someone else is, barely anyone cares unless they're a true avatarfag.
Try to not stand out, that's my point, if you want actual recognition then be sure to put effort into your avatar, however remember that's not required, you could look pristine but if people hate you, your appearance won't save you.
>>238718985
Yes but it would involve you having to make/take a model in Blender and have invisible legs/fuck with the armature to get something like that to work.
You can also fly in-game but it's a bit unstable since it's the result of self collision with a physics object and it's only used to move fast/fly fast without fine control.
>>238718035Thank youtwo face
How many games have full body tracking implemented, or do practically all of them do?
>>238719363
You need 2 trackers for the feet and one for the hands, then you can move your playspace and VRC will know where your legs are relative to your body, so you can float.
A puppet avatar has the model attached to your hand, with the rest of your body invisible. Mostly just used for gimmicks because it's tiring to keep your hand up all the time.
>>238719363
>full body
3 extra trackers: hips and each foot.
>puppet
put your whole avatar parented to the hand on another armature and go mad with shapekeys for entire limb movements instead of just hand gestures.
>>238719731
It's the $300 lying down expansion pack for VRChat. A few other literalwho games use it, but no-one cares.
>>238719731
like TWO. Vrchat is the main one.
>>238720161
There's more than two, but it's just VRC as far as anyone is concerned.

>>238718113
What are all these bones for, anon?
Why would anyone need so many bones in such a fashion when they clearly aren't using them for dynamic bones because they are an experienced and knowledgable Avatar creator, anon?ANON
>>238720446
>>238719731
Oh, although, I should mention that a vive tracker could be a gun (or whatever) attachment for tracking, or just tracking for a controller with all the same buttons.
The pogo connector on a vive tracker allows you to define all the buttons of a controller into steamvr.
The new steamvr controller library allows you to interchange the tracker as a controller so yeah.
No, this is not a photograph... this is a screenshot from the video game 'VRChat'...
>>238720969
they are using them for dynamic bones because private avatar among private friends
you can also just upload two, one without the script and one without. Plus they're useful later if vrchat implements a less laggy physics system.
>>238721054
Hey I took a nice screenshot of that world too
I would sleep in vr more if I didn't have real life things to get up for. Does anyone actually get a decent sleep in vr and have any secrets to getting it?

I can usually get 4~ish hours of actual sleep before waking up to something or another.

says the voluntary mute while trying to conceive their identity as a riftlet.
All VR headsets have a mic unless the manufacturer was cheap enough to not include one, even on WMR it's rare to not have one now.
I can't imagine the struggle of a mute when there's an interesting conversation going on that they would like to participate in but cannot because they started playing as a mute and their whole identity depends on them staying as one.
lmao
>>238725314
Ironically I used to write with my marker in conversations, but since I started speaking I find it much more difficult to join in.
>>238725314
I have a WMR without a built-in mic.
I just plug my earbuds in which have a mic on the volume control.
>>238725503
I was a mute as well but I figured if I actually want to be noticed I have to talk.
I did the same before, I would use a snail marker, but it's really hard to get group attention as a mute.
Alternatively you can use TTS.
>>238725713
How do you get TTS to work? Just blast it through your speakers with your mic on, or somehow direct the audio from the TTS site/program as if it is a mic itself?
>>238725713
I used to just go up and start writing things and people would notice and stop to read it. Now I have to overcome the reluctance to speak each time and usually no-one responds, or if they do I can't think of anything to say quickly enough and end up giving non-committal answers until they move on.
>>238725314
Pretty sure the Odyssey and Odyssey+ are the only two WMR headsets that have built-in mics.

Some of you are optimized. Don't go to the meetup tonight.
>>238728249

>>238727221
>murder simulator
That's making me think, a new game similar to Hitman, but with smaller much more detailed missions ex. a single house, with some realistic character actions and senses(Hearing, smell etc.) and way more graphic violence than B&S all in VR.
Would people be interested in an actual murder game?
>>238728249
Going above 200 vertices on cloth is worse than most dynamic bone setups
>>238728249
It can be more optimized then dynamic but it will look awful. For cloth to look good it needs a lot of verts and a high update rate wich putts it well past D-bones
>>238728740
Add rape and I'm in.
>>238728740
>>238729428
The more dark things a game has the more it will be banned causing less revenue and therefore size of the game, but I definitely see a game like this appearing sometime in the future, if mod support is enabled or they have downloadable patches to add missing content to enable it to pass censorship i't could be quite good quality too.
>>238728164
Didn't know it was released already. It won't work in VRC anyway because it will just activate the walking animation. I think the only way around that would be if it moved the playspace at the correct rate.
>>238732181
VRChat is the one thing I can stand having trackpad locomotion. H3VR, Gorn, not so much
>>238732181
>>238728164
It "works" in VRC, I tried it earlier today. Disables gestures on your left hand, disables turning with the right trackpad, disables openhand gesture with vive wands, and there's no way to separate the walking in place locomotion from the armswing locomotion, so both are in effect at the same time.
It's ass.

Hitman & Hotline Miami are murder sims. Payday 2 too, I don't recall them getting any serious heat. There are a few burglary sims too, not even like Thief, modern day stuff. I feel like video game controversy was all faked or at least intentionally drummed up before it gets out of control, like Manhunt 2.
After days of research and trial and error I have finally found the perfect solution for avatars with skirts:Don't make one. Kill me.
>>238740645
I was just thinking since its vr it would actually look like a murder training sim, thats what would cause controversy. If things like covering your tracks and hiding evidence were implemented too that might increase that belief. I actually really want a horribly dark game like this now, I know it's gonna be made eventually but I want a high realism thing and I just dunno if that would ever get the funding.
Bunny pals ft. sunburn lighting.
Anyone know if Unity supports Blender's multiple UV maps? Am wanting to lower my texture atlas size by just using two materials instead. One albedo, and one normal mapped small 64x64 repeating pattern for a repeated cloth material, but the latter would need its own UV.

The usual gotos for remapping controllers generically are vjy and freepie, but neither seems to have updated recently. freepie claims to support the rift touch controllers, but it's built against oculus api 0.8, so ancient. might be able to build the pr yourself though https://github.com/AndersMalmgren/FreePIE/pull/94

I think supporting the headset in a way that keeps the pressure off your face and ears/headphones is key. The best technique i've found so far is to use one of those U-shaped travel pillows, but instead of putting it around your neck, just lay your head sideways on top of it, so that your ear goes in the middle, the headset goes into the "slot" of the U to the side. Side-sleeping keeps the bulk of the weight off your face, while the hole in the pillow also keeps pressure off your ear (for headphones or earbuds).
Physically, it's still not as comfy as without the headset on and I don't think it'll ever be until we get lighter headsets, but with the right environment/people it's still overall nice way to fall asleep and wake up.

Shit, they show you that stuff now? What else changed this month?
>>238755008
They pushed an update where IK calculations where sent over the network instead of calculating it in your machine which GREATLY increased performance(I'm talking about 90 fps in a 40 people meetup). But it had some issues with people being invisible sometimes and long loading avatar times so they had to revert it

Increased favourite avatar count to 16. Able to 'clone' a public avatar that others are using just by going into their profile, and you can see the author's info of the avatar from there.

The problem with dynamic bones in VRChat is they'll ALWAYS BE ACTIVE since we're never sitting perfectly still to let them hit a rested state.

it is, quite a bit. You can prove it by looking in the profiler in unity, same number of bones as tupper's video is no problem. Their springbone system is really good.
>>238757431
A container format like FBX that's a bit more modern, comes with author/source information, and has most information you would need for to make a VR avatar in one file. The main implementation of it is in Unity.Of course VRChat doesn't support it directly even though the file format was basically made for it.
>>238757650
That makes me annoyed that Dynamic Bone is even whitelisted in the first place then if it can be done way more efficiently.

from what I understand from someone in the know, is that VRM is high on the list of things to possibly implement after one of us mentioned it to themor at least I hope
>>238757983
indeed it does. It even has a proxy for the bone naming system, meaning you can reference those instead of whatever your bones are named as, and allow for animations without mechanim, and some default facial shape key proxies (things like smile, wink, smirk, joy - that you can assign to blendshapes).
It also uses GLTF, which is a mesh and texture format that vastly improves on performance across the board from fbx, supports (and is made by the people behind) vulkan, and would open up the game to android and other things more natively since gltf rendering is well accelerated in modern gpus.
>>238757747
to be fair this didn't exist when vrchat was getting created.
VRM format was just adopted by crypton future media though and that's probably the straw that breaks the camel's back. The massive number of things for vr that are prototyped and deployed in record time for it is staggering.
>VRM was meant for Youtubers and frequently references a 3d anime character on its description page
I'll pass on something made by some waifu hobbyist and stick with the tried n' true.
>>238758612
The point I was getting at was that if VRM can have a more performant dynamic bone alternative implemented in Unity, why can't we?
>>238758401
>It also uses GLTF, which is a mesh and texture format that vastly improves on performance across the board from fbx
source on this? I've read that glTF is closer to the native GPU buffer formats so it requires less transformation during load tie, but once it's on the GPU, it's the same internal vertex buffer once it's there, so it's not like the runtime characteristics are any different from vertices loaded from an fbx. It is nice to have an open, documented format (besides collada's xml mess) for 3d models, but it's not a "vastly improves performance" thing.
>>238758904
I once made a Collada importer for something... it was not pretty.

>>238759624
On mine it's just literally dynamic bones and non-dynamic versions. People would whine that 20k poly is too low to do anything nice which was horse-shit, and I'm expecting the same folks to say the same thing about the new 32k limit for excellent.
>>238760178
people only say 20k is too low because mmd models are inefficient messes of combined assets from multiple sources without any concern for polycount, since animations are designed to be post-rendered to video only, for the most part.
Realtime is much harder. Also you only need about 20 bones for a full avatar with a skirt, hair, etc, it's all about how it's weight painted.
>>238760560
And it's fucking dumb. Wish MMD importing wasn't a thing since it lead a lot of the poor performance in VRChat the past year, or people abusing the SDK in general which is Tupper's fault really for not doing server-side checks on uploaded assets.
Unless you're doing AAA cutscene-quality assets on a flat game you're not pushing 50k polygons at all on a single model.
>>238760748
I think its easy to get high poly models down with low quality loss.
People who think otherwise are retards who just collapse decimate everything.
>>238760748
Most custom maids are 40-50 tris.
>>238761387
CM3D2 isn't even remotely near the pinnacle of optimized games from the Japanese world. They abuse the "more polygons = smoother surface!" ideology of bad model design. Hell, it's amazing hardly any JP devs utilize dynamic tessellation instead to get very smooth figures at a fraction of the processing cost.

>>238760748
mmd is the reason vrchat is what it is. An anon we know actually drew the connection early on when vrchat was full of ugly uncanny valley bullshit and started dumping models into the game and showing other people how to. If it wasn't for anime, vrchat wouldn't be what it is today. That broad appeal is the same reason why people pick up visual novels and whatnot.
It's just a shame optimization wasn't as much a concern in 2015

>>238763778
VRChat was fine as a small audience of VR enthusiasts and modelers before cats plugin allowed easy dumping of MMD avatars with a modified sdk for idiots with no care for optimization.
>>238765336
You can't scale to the level expected by investors on "a small audience of VR enthusiasts and modelers," and a good portion of the anime fans MMD avatars brought in have become VR enthusiasts in the meantime. Furthermore, you could import MMDs easily enough before Cats - it was just somewhat tedious because you might have to rename and delete bones, and manually create visemes.
The lack of optimization in avatars comes from the tools provided by VRChat. The SDK, up until now, gave no hints as to how to optimize, and the only one provided was minimally impactful and easily bypassed.
>>238752876

Log in, search for a user (Yuru, our meido), and add them. They always accept friend invites. Yeah, you can use the same ovrlipsync library that vrchat itself uses to do visemes with a prerecorded clip, and you can use the unity animation recorder to bounce out the results into a clip.

I love Katamari and I love you guys.
>>238774809
As far as I know, no way to tie it to a viseme, since it's not an animation but a blendshape that gets activated, but I don't know if what you're implying (having the speech sound effect while you're talking from your mic) is realistic in the first place, because the king doesn't actually voice his lines.
>>238775527
Someone tried changing the size of their avatar on a gesture and what ends up happening is that your model scales up but you don't, so your hands and your view stay in the same place. It looks a bit silly as the model grows but the head and hands stay in the same place.
There's a way to link the bones of a model with another so you can create a sort of puppet, but I don't know how you'd get around the issue of scaling the movements so it translates to a bigger model.
>>238776714
Oh wait, i misread, i thought you wanted to make visemes match up with sound clips. If you want to play subtle record scratches while you speak, it'd be best to do the effect externally in a daw, then pipe the output back into vrchat with sar.audio or virtual audio cable. At least with bitwig, you could turn your mic input into MIDI note ons, and play a soundboard with some record scratches that way. I'm sure there's a way to do it in other daws too, like reaper which is free.
Am I really the only one with this logging in & loading loop problem?
It all started recently and made it take like 20 minutes to go to a world, now I've opened up VRchat for an hour and it still hasn't went to the downloading/go screen
>>238777396
Works on my machine. You should look through the output_log.txt in the vrchat appdata folder and see if there are obvious errors to fix. Or send the log to vrchat support and they might help too
>>238777151
>>238775527
You could have a scaled, puppeted version of the king but the mesh is normally hidden, then turn the mesh on with a gesture while disabling the normal sized king.
>>238774479
that's not a bad number for such a new game on christmas eveu
>>238777183
fuuuuck we better take more pictures. We're not in yet. 11 minutes to actual christmas
>>238777151
Yeah, I'm aware on how the scale-up gesture works, which is fine by me since I don't get any weird shifts in my VR view. Either case, may just resort to using a solo trigger squeeze for the noise at a random pitch for now since it's the simplest solution without audio piping involved.
Also Keita's next game, Wattam, needs to fucking come out already.

Hmm actually, a big puppet relative to your normal model might be able to work. So you'd need to connect every bone, and instead of using the positions, only use the rotations. Theoretically, it should work. I'm not sure in practice what would happen, or if you can do that, as I haven't tried.
I still got the odd 500-1000ms ping spike in VRChat, wish they'd fix this shit or its routing already since the rest of my internet is perfectly functional during it, and only that connected IP is spiking.

>>238785808Vive users have a worse mic quality than Oculus so it should have been obvious to that guy
>>238786273
Most Rifts have decent enough mic's but some of them are so horrendously bad that it honestly makes it near impossible to understand certain people half the time. Vive mic's are more consistently bad, particularly in the way it alters people's voices. Plus the placement of it is unbelievably stupid so breathing will blast the mic with wind way too easily.
>>238786650
Where is it placed on Vive? On Rift it's on the left side of the headset's bottom shell where breathing doesn't hit it at all.
>>238786769
It's right in front of the nose gap and doesn't even have a pop filter. You can tape some sock to it to help with the breathing, but it's still terrible.

>Bully, crash and block every desktopper that doesn't have a good/excellent avatar
>Bully, crash, block and report everyone with a poor / very poor avatar (make sure to check what the reason behind their rank is! if they are very poor because of their polys, dynamic bone collision check count or bounds size ignore this advice)

I wish we'd have two separate generals, but I fear the regular VR general would die without VRchat bumping it.
We had a little impromptu santa's lap event. It went very well and was entertaining, probably the highlight of the night.
I took a video of it.

I do it way too often, but I find it too annoying to stand up all the time either. Thankfully I have an ottoman couch so I can still potentially put my arms at my sides while sitting, but resting my hands on my lap is still comfier. The only real way around this issue is FBT to make things actually look correct while lounging, but that's a bit to costly for this leaf rift user to justify.

Basically the problem.
/g/ threads on VR tend to basically end up being people who don't have VR regurgitating uneducated opinions
/v/ threads on VR tend to be, well, /v/
For better or for worse, VRChat spergs are mostly the only ones who know enough about VR to have worthwhile discussion of it, and most of us who have VR are also VRChat spergs.
It might be better to think of this thread as a VRChat General that also discusses VR at large rather than vice versa.
>>238840130
Makes sense. At least the spergs are keeping the generals active and answering questions for newbies.

I'm taking a hard wait and see approach to the Quest.
Problem is that it's just standalone and can't be tethered to your PC, so you're stuck hoping that people will develop shit for it or otherwise playing Go-tier content. Not worth being an early adopter of it, I think.
Get a cheap <$200 Mixed Reality headset to hold you over until Gen 2 desktop VR, or until the Quest becomes mature.

The Zucc has assured us it will be able to play at least most of the existing Rift games, so provided that's true (it may not be) the purchase will make sense for me since I don't have a PC that can run VR (and am a broke fag who can't spend 700 on a new desktop).
Are the mixed reality things any good? I have genuinely heard nothing about them besides that Xbox One was going to get one as a foil to the PSVR.

I'm skeptical of Zucc's claims, and what they have shown of Quest games seem heavily stripped down compared to their Desktop equivalents.
Mixed Reality sets are a very decent alternative to Rift and Vive. Samsung's is expensive, but goes toe to toe with the Vive Pro. The others are all much cheaper, and although they're not as nice as the Rift/Vive, they're hardly second rate.
As a bare minimum, you probably want no less than 8gb of RAM, a 1050Ti or equivalent, and an i3 or equivalent. Those will get you to a playable level in VR, though you may need to set supersampling to less than 1.0 or lower other settings to get a smooth experience.
