It took forever to figure out a method to to turret roll and pitch. This one still isn't perfect since input is quantized (fixed angles based on the balls), but it does sync correctly at least. Animator blend trees and float paramters. I think I might be able to do it differently with a paused animator and changing the update time, but it's still janky.

Most exciting part is that the reaction force from firing is actually there. Will send you backwards if you don't have the brakes on. Shot and explosion particle systems need work, soon.

I tested it briefly with multiple people in it. The "immobilize for vehicle" seats are actually pretty smooth, but stuff like isKinematic pickups jump all over the place when the tank is moving quickly, which makes controls quite difficult. Might have to be shitty canvas controls in the end if I can't figure out how to keep triggers in their place.

I have that same jetpack prefab, it's not completely smooth either, and if you drop a controller it gets left behind. I think if I want to use the same "hand collider" strategy I need to figure out how to some maps attach gameobjects to your player armature, rather than vrc_pickup. It's some button eventsystem trick.

Sounds good. Making smooth futuristic stuff is a lot easier than the more dirty style with complex components, which means people can make decent avatars now, and improve skills over time to make decent ones for the future.

Alright motherfuckers, its Friday night yet again, and that means it is time to get fucking serious. The serious sam session is going to be held at 9pm pst, or 12am est. This time around we might wrap up the first game after adjusting the difficulty. After adding in limited life tokens and the increased health tank to the enemies, we were actually stalled. The gameplay is challenging and more fun now, but we might have to adjust either the enemy health buff, or add more life tokens. Tonight we will get to doing some PVP as well, the quake style gameplay mixed with VR is seriously interesting. Add "Dal290[ewe]" on steam if you want in, or through another player you might know.

I've thought about it, but there are too many things going on that would need to be recreated. First off is the terrain system itself, which afaict needs to be static for the terrain collider to even work, and then you need some sort of reverse wheel collider to get the same friction/slip driving physics. Not to mention baked lighting is out, no more static batching, etc.

The best hack I could think of in the same vein was to teleport the players off to a stationary "cockpit" outside the main map, and have Cameras placed on the actual tank that moves around on a terrain, projected by render texture into the fake stationary cockpit to make it look like you're in there. But then you need at least 2 cameras for a stereo image, probably more since I dunno how you'd implement a full 360 view for the commander to be able to look around in the tank hatch, and it'd be lower resolution than the actual main camera. And no idea how you'd do sound, e.g. if a tank shell goes off near the real tank, transporting that back into the fake stationary cockpit.

However, I can see the stationary cockpit working for a different genre. Star trek-style big ship space combat. The whole bridge setup, with the main screen connected to Cameras out on a ship model that actually moves around. Could do actual zero-G maneuvering physics too.

Damn, that's a cool idea actually. Need to finish tanks first though. Somebody else do it.

...yes? In what context? A vrchat map? you can do drawing on a surface with a camera depth texture and render texture pair. The shuffling is a lot harder to do. There are definitely techniques for it, but it involves a lot of unity UI event trickery that's hard to find information on. The writing is the easier to do of the two. Well, y ou can set up a physics-based shuffling system relatively easily actually, a ball tumbler or pachinko pegs or something. It's not robust if you have hundreds of cards or need to shuffle them quickly, but for a few 10s it's fine. Add a unique texture for each ball (or render texture if you want custom writing, then you can draw them out of the tumbler one by one.
