The ribbon cable is rare, that usually causes a complete failure. The more common issue (something like 45% of all wands) is the rubber backing under the pad becoming misaligned and leading to clicks not registering. You can take it apart and glue the rubber back on, but some people have reported that additional to that, the mechanical switch under the pad wears down and needs to be augmented or replaced.

We might have different hands broken, then. I can barely run in Pavlov from the broken click, but VRChat is fine because the movement controls are on the other hand.

So to sum it up:
Disregarding Pimax, HP Reverb will be the best headset for seated/cockpit sim/productivity/passive use-cases. Rift S will be the best for general gaming. Vive Pro plus trackers will be the best for VRChat. Except for users with more extreme IPD values, then that equation becomes Odyssey, Vive Pro, and Vive Pro, respectively. For those who travel a lot or want to take the VR everywhere without a PC, Quest will be the way to go. Or if you want to travel with a laptop plus VR, then Rift S.

Cosmos details still mostly unknown but they have an event on the 26th with VR related announcements. Valve headset details even more unknown but they claim that they'll be talking more about VR "in the not too distant future". Still probably wise to wait especially when Cosmos is still said to be launching this year and it's not like Reverb, Rift S, and Quest are out yet. Reverb is out next month and Rift S and Quest probably next month or May.

unity's renderer and bundling for worlds makes particles in a world this less of an issue, especially when they're always loaded and you're using proper LOD.
check the profiler if you're not sure, and learn how to use occlusion and light volumes with LOD and probes, and your performance will ROCK everyone else's.
it's particles on avatars that interact with poorly optimized worlds that cause issues most of all.
There's some chinknesium worlds that have some of the best LOD I've ever seen, with no lag even with like 50 people.
It's not high fidelity good, but great for vrchat.
