I don't see why it would be such a big problem if a giant glass pane posed tracking problems in any case. Where did you hear that? It's not magic. They're still using mostly the same or similar types of sensors (cameras) to track things. I was talking about playspace size. That has nothing to do with visibility of high contrast edges. How the tracking system works is that it (likely) looks for high contrast edges, and when it sees those and creates "points" for them, it can then use parallax to understand how far away they are. The problem is when you're so far away from those points that the error of your estimate of distance becomes much larger given limited sensor resolution. If you don't have points close enough to you, then it will try to rely on the points farther, which give you bad tracking. To make an extreme case, imagine if you were trying to estimate position based on a camera looking at the starry sky. The stars would provide high contrast points, but they would not be able to provide good distance information no matter how much you tried to humanly move your camera in order to use parallax.

The point of pointing out that there was glass in that room was to demonstrate that it's not surprising that there would be tracking problems because reflective surfaces often do result in tracking problems. Well, not only playspace size but the ability to have tracking in 6 DoF at all. That's just how inside-out tracking works. The things in the environment are essentially your markers now instead of specifically predefined markers like LED arrays. Technically speaking, range could be no problem if the headset had tons of cameras on it all looking at the floor all the time, and the floor itself had a ton of contrasting edges (that don't change). However, that tests by users with WMR and other headsets have proved they work at all in grassy environments is impressive. Given the sensor configuration on Quest, at least it should be a little better at keeping tracking when the user turns their head upwards.
