Nobody is roleplaying "in character" except maybe yellow cat
I need an updated list of all /vrg/ couples ordered from gayest to straightest
>>252272171
>No workshop support
What's the point then?
>>252272309
Sucks, but true. Wish more people got in character tbqh
>>252272552
Show vrg a decent voice changer and I bet more people will do it. It's hard to be cute when you sound like Morgan Freeman.
>>252272769
I'd rather they be silent and just mimicking the mannerisms than try to do a good impression with a voice changer
>>252272426

>>252272171
>no workshop support
come the fuck on
>>252272769
Imagine a timeline where voice changer shader-equivalents with no robotic distortion are built into every avatar so you could make everyone sound like your waifu.
>>252272907
Staying silent is a huge ask for most people. You have to be extremely committed to a character to forgo 90% of social interaction.
>>252277243
A lot of people are former mutes, though, so it isn't really as big a task as you're making it seem.
>>252275994
https://streamable.com/e99v4
so i've been using an Acer WMR headset for 8 days and holy shit am i having a great time, but i find it kinda sad that most of the games are either terrible wave shooters or mediocre gimmicks (like Windlands).
so i ask ye, /vrg/, for game recommendations:
these are the games i've already tried/have on my steam inventory:
-Pavlov
-Rec Room
-Dungeon Knight VR
-Gorn
-Payday 2
-Beat Saber
-Scrap Attack
-SuperHotVR
-Compound (great fucking game, im looking for more games like this one)
-Doom and Quake on VR
>>252277354
They stopped being mute for a reason though.
>>252277415
Peer pressure? Cause that's literally why most of them began talking.
>>252272171
>Oculus Quest
why do you keep pushing this shit? most games will look like ass and run at a headache inducing 30 fps.
>>252277417
not helping you because you used one of those stupid cat reaction images
>>252277652
jeez, my bad then.
>>252277589
All Quest games run at locked 72hz though? Games have to meet the minimum requirements to be listed on the Oculus store, one of the requirements being to consistently reach the target framerate.
>>252277857
>72hz
jesus i thought 90hz was the bare minimum for smooth vr gameplay.
>>252275994
is this going to be a regular thing?
>>252277417
I really like ultrawings, fun non-combat flight sim. Eleven is a great table tennis sim if you like that game. Assetto corsa has VR support and is a solid racing/drifting sim, some anons here play. You can use the motion controllers to emulate a wheel kinda if you don't have a physical one. Racket: Nx is an okay hybrid between racketball and breakout, might be your jam, though I find it a bit simplistic. In Death is rouguelike archery game, some people here play it though I haven't personally.
>>252278215
maybe, there were a few extra people who missed it but wanted to join and there doesn't seem to be any player limits in the custom games
>>252278302
thank you for the recommendations, im mostly an FPS guy outside of VR but man does the experience really broaden your tastes.
sports and racing games aren't boring as shit now.
I am sorry for being such a mess up and a terrible friend to you.
>>252278939You'd better be, I trusted you and you wounded me deeply
>>252278686
That was exactly my feeling. I had zero interest in racing sims before, but VR makes it a lot more compelling. Assetto goes on sale for cheap on steam or humble bundle occasionally, it's definitely worth it for ~$12. There's a group of anons that play on wednesday nights together, which always makes things more fun.
Eleven is unique in that ping pong is the perfect game to port to VR. You make use of the full motion of your body, there's no odd missing force feedback on the racket since the ball is tiny, and skills actually transfer over to real life pretty well. It's not perfect, but it makes up for the fact that you never have to fish the ball out from underneath furniture in VR.
Worth mentioning that even if you're not about the whole social/ meetup shit, vrchat is is still worth trying just as a free solo VR visual experience. Check out the fractal world, or treehouse in the shade, stay in a private instance if you doun't want to run into anybody.
>>252279078
Even by yourself you can just go exploring and see neat stuff
>>252279078
VRChat was fun, but i had more fun with RecRoom.
VRC just feels like (for me at least) the same RecRoom but without the polish, i have more fun watching videos about it than playing it im afraid.
something that really bothers me about VR games recommendations is that people apparently forgot COMPOUND exists, it's so fucking amazing and i can't believe it is so underrated everywhere i go, it's easily my go to game when i fire my headset.
>>252279407
RecRoom is full of annoying kids and boring rooms though.
anyone knows where i can get Dead Effect 2VR for cheap/free? the game never goes on sale and i don't think its worth 30 bucks but i would gladly pay 15 for it.
>>252279407
vrchat's range is amazing once you get into the blender/unity side of things. It's an entire hobby by itself.
>>252272309
Nynapi does too
>>252279524
VRC is full of autists, annoying kids AND 9 out of 10 rooms are furry/sex rooms though.
>>252272769
This
>>252279625
oh yeah i've seen the crazy shit people create for VRChat, but that's it for me, i find it amusing and move on.
not saying that the game is bad, not at all, it's just that it really aint for me.
>>252279564
Pirate it.
>>252279843

I wanted to join, but missed it by two hours because I wasplaying dcs instead - ss
>>252278540
yeah host one again, I wasn't able to join but would join the next one even if just to fly meme planes with shit loadouts
>>252277528
I don't think most of them started talking because of peer pressure. I'd say the majority either got bored of not being able to talk to people or started out mute because of social awkwardness, then slowly became comfortable enough to start speaking.

>7 August – A RAF Hawker Typhoon strafed a squad from 'F' Company/US 120th Infantry Regiment, near Hill 314, France, killing two men.[76] Around noon on the same day, RAF Hawker Typhoon of the 2TAF was called in to assist the US 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion in stopping an attack by the 2nd SS Panzer Division between Sourdeval and Mortain but instead fired its rockets at two US 3-inch guns near L'Abbaye Blanche, killing one man and wounding several others even after the yellow smoke (which was to identify friendlies) was put out. Two hours later, an RAF Typhoon shot up the Service Company of the 120th Infantry Regiment, US 30th Division, causing several casualties, including Major James Bynum who was killed near Mortain. The officer who replaced him was strafed by another Typhoon a few minutes later and seriously wounded. Around the same time, a Hawker Typhoon attacked the Cannon Company of 120th Infantry Regiment, US 30th Division, near Mortain, killing 15 men.[76] An hour later, RAF Typhoons strafed 'B' Company/US 120th Infantry Regiment on Hill 285, killing a driver of a weapons carrier

I could see myself playing H3VR or Pavlov as traditional games. I can't see myself playing dead effect, for a shitty russian game it doesn't even have any charm.

it's a full co-op fps, lot's of mission types, decent weapon handling, diablo style loot and powers. It's cheaply made but they've actually improved it for VR. It's as good as Doom 3 and works a little better. Unless you're expecting Borderlands 2 to be any good, it's what there is.

>>252332918
I dunno, they're like that only until you become friends and they either become even more timid, or suddenly turn into extremely touchy feel people. I used to have a foreign exchange student friend from Japan, and he never shut the fuck up after we started hanging out together. He was also a chunni, and is still(?) a professional cosplayer cause he was one beautiful dude, no homo. Lost contact when Japan had that nuclear reactor meltdown though, so who knows what happened to him.

Finally organised all my VRChat stuff. Had it scattered over a few different locations. Feels good. Shame I still have so fucking much shit (like hundreds of models which I'd need to unzip and import into Blender to truly know what they are) in there.
Koikatsu always looks likeknockoff chink shit lmao
So, my choices right now are waiting for the thousand dollar index, getting the shitty rift S I probably can't use because of the lack of IPD adjustment, getting a used rift and gambling whether or not it's fucked up (also having to use the mediocre screen compared to newer headsets) or having to buy a trash 2 camera inside out tracked garbage controller WMR headset?
Jesus christ why isn't Valve releasing a 500 dollar bundle headset? Maybe a controller without the complexity of the knuckles closer to the touch controllers and a headset less complex so overall it's only 500? Fucking christ
Also don't say the Vive is worth it, that's gross. The screen on it is so bad.
>>252355501
No decent $400 headset is a mistake. I finally took the leap when Rift dropped to $350 because I didn't know if it would be a meme or not. The current options are too expensive for newcomers or flawed with the potential to drive them away.
>>252356916
I used to own a rift myself and sold figuring I'd just get another if no good headset popped up, but I didn't figure they'd make it unavailable. It's just such a let down that the best and most affordable is still the rift, sure the display isn't too bad but damn the god rays and everything is just shit compared to a bunch of the newer displays but they're tied to garbage headsets and controls. Fucking shame, hate that I have to hold out for an affordable headset or until I can afford the index.
Why yes I preorded the Index. How did you know?
If you want a 500 dollar bundle buy the vive, it still exists retards
>>252357321

>>252357527

The vive's screen is close to the rift's and rift S's, so if you rule that out you should reduce your list to Odyssey+ and Index. Valve isn't going to make a cheap headset because they physically can't build enough headsets and don't want to license it to another manufacturer. Knuckles are priced the way there are because everybody would be flipping them on ebay otherwise.
>>252359552
What are your complaints about the screen? Yeah, it's overpriced, but that's how VR is now thanks to Facebook's betrayal.
>>252372389
Nah the Vive's and Rift's screen is outdated now, literally any other headset that's not an old WMR has a better screen.
>>252372640
>Vive's and Rift's

Quick question about VRchat, if anons supposedly dont talk (and prefer it to be that way) else they'll be made fun of/be forced to use some shotty voice mod, how do they communicate?

In June '16, the Vive was the only option. Touch wouldn't be out until December (and I don't even think we had a solid date), and the Rift was still 600$ for a headset that came with nothing but glorified webcams and an Xbox controller. Would have been the same price to buy Rift+Touch as the full 800$ Vive, and I had a nice basement space just begging for roomscale, which the Rift didn't even officially support even *when* Touch launched.
BUT. The Touch controllers are so far ahead of the Vive wands it isn't even funny, you're right. There's literally no advantage unless you really need to feel like you're gripping a sword hilt.
I'm aware of the Index's open headphone solution. I don't care about my roomates hearing what I'm playing, only what I'm saying - which is why my room is better for social stuff, and I can do everything else out there.
Played VR Kanjo yesterday, it was uncanny and made me feel uncomfortable.

So what happens when u sleep in vr with someone and ur trackers run out of juice in the night? Or if one of u wakes up do u leave without saying anything? Im curious about the practical mechanics of such things
>>252398179
Usually your body freezes in the last position it was in when your trackers died, and you just rotate around based on your headset orientation. I try to keep battery banks plugged in to have trackers working in the morning but the cables pop out. Generally the first to wake up does log off to go to actual bed or take a shower or something.
>>252398261
Sounds cute design
I'd like to try it somedaywith a vrfubut no trackers/setup space wise for it

>>252398179

You freeze in place if one dies but you can still move your arms and head. The rest of the body will follow the head. You're staying still anyway so as long as you're in a comfortable position before your trackers die no one will notice.
>wakes up
Common courtesy is to let people still asleep continue sleeping but you don't have to leave. If you do no one will mind if you give them a quick smooch or a headpat before you go.

It's kinda shit in the long run it get's grindy after tier 2 and just stops being fun in general.
However just playing with low tier planes, tanks and boats in vr is hella fun and has heaps of replay value with friends because of large private servers that can have up to 64 people playing at a time and plenty of maps and scenarios to play.

Most HOTAS have half decent preconfigured profiles for DCS, maybe you just didn't do it right? The other features, you can just map to your different function keys and switches as you go through the in-game tutorials as needed. The trick is setting up good function key modifiers (like alt, shift, ctrl but either on your stick or throttle group) and keeping related systems toggles together. Stuff you rarely use, such as during cold-start, you can just switch in the cockpit view, no need to map it to anything.
This is a good tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dttiel2ABEI

DCS control set up is the easiest to do in any sim.
There are tutorials out there of what keys to bind and what not, as it is a sim, you'd need to know hat buttons actually do before you start binding stuff most likely.
Watching a video is a good start, though once you do it once, you get the gist of it.

Quotas quotas quotas. Amazon rates metrics very intensely. How many things you can pick/sort/etc per hour without making mistakes.
You will definitely have people visit you frequently to observe and retrain you if you make quality defects or are under-performing and can even get fired if you don't improve. Lots of people quit but they have people lined up to replace you.

There are a lot of "distributed" companies or teams like that which have no physical office and are 100% remote. Mostly software shops. I do think VR meetings will end up being big if HTC/oculus push their enterprise headsets successfully. Once we get varifocal/eyetracking headsets, we'll start to see actual virtual monitor setups.
One thing I've been thinking about is how having eye tracking is going to change some fundamental work software, like text editors. Imagine having a vim keybinding to "jump to eye position" instead of fumbling with easymotion, or a "hold V while moving eyes to select text". Eye gestures: flick your eyes to the left edge of the screen twice to go back in your browser. Combine with head gestures: shake your head side to side and roll your eyes to close a window.

Patents suck a LOT.

>>252423687
>Once we get varifocal/eyetracking headsets, we'll start to see actual virtual monitor setups.
Eyetracking doesn't somehow solve absolutely major problems like pixel density, which needs to advance a fucking ORDER OF MAGNITUDE to make virtual monitors with similar resolutions to real world monitors possible.
The only thing that's going to let you cram 10 times as many pixels in the same space as one pixel these days is some major leap forward in screen tech, something capable of totally replacing OLED and LCD.

It'll be 3v3 or 1v6 in the next update. The assets are already in for it too, there's 6 teleport pads in the ready room. I think they're doing 2v2 to balance the game and for PSVR sake, but it's on their roadmap along with a lot more things.
the game also has free for all mode and you can even do 3v1 in custom games.
There's a lot coming, the game is still early and basically brand new.
This is the same team that made Rabbids and Rayman, they're taking it very seriously and injecting a lot of money into esports and development of the game.
It's pretty damn popular on both psvr and pc.
Usually pc players get paired against other pc players but in team vs you get a lot of rift and psvr buddies hamming it up.
>>252424578
Isn't the resolution on those waveguide/holographic screens super low? I don't see reading text being viable on that blurry mess.
>>252425109
Is the hardware to actually make the pixel density small enough the bottleneck, or is it actually rendering all those pixels every frame (which foeveated rendering makes actually feasible with a large FoV). I remember there was one headset with a patch of super-high-density pixels right in the center, like a fixed foeveated rendering, can't remember what it's called. Plus the pimax 8k meme.
>>252425398
actually it's quite clear.
There IS a commercial headset with retinal projection currently, the AVEGANT VIDEO HEADSET, and people who have it say it's like using a super high def tv at about 2m away. Interestingly it's weakly steamvr compatible but only 3dof.
The fov is reduced due to the small led projector size constraints I imagine.
https://avegant.com/video-headset#design
Since these guys own the patent on their arguably very smart micromirror array other headset (vr maybe) can't use something too similar, which kinda pisses me off because it solves the focal plane distance problem - you don't need moving screens to change focal planes.
It's basically a mirror array that angles the light perfectly onto your retina my mimicking the curvature of the eyeball.
I really wish they would stop cucking out in the rnd phase of AR and release a cheap VR version with 110deg as a headset so we can have proper vergance and focal planes in vr and have thinner headsets.
If it was like the pimax but retinal projection I think it would win in a lot of ways.
Is there a way to add a regular Steam game to SteamVR?
>>252425398
>>Is the hardware to actually make the pixel density small enough the bottleneck, or is it actually rendering all those pixels every frame (which foeveated rendering makes actually feasible with a large FoV).
It's both. Screen tech is fairly close to the physical limits, most high density displays are using garbage like pentile to increase perceived resolution, because it effectively makes every pixel half the size.
Foveated rendering helps, but it's miles off.
Note that things like "8k" are pure marketing bullshit. The 8k pimax is just 4k, but this is HD and fullHD all over again.

Did some searching, it still only takes a 720p input source, which definitely isn't "super high def", or enough for text.

>Patents suck a LOT
Oh you it's you again. Why do you keep posting this as if it's fact? There is absolutely no confirmation I have seen that there is any patent that is truly holding back current AR/VR technology, while there is more reason to believe certain technologies simply are not ready yet. Most of these videos and documents do not tell you the problems of their approaches, stop believing in the hype.
>It's exceptionally annoying that this isn't something we're already doing.
Seriously, stop. If there were truly a solution to these problems now, they would be going into products. But they are not ready yet. And do you honestly expect companies to divulge all the sensitive information about their research to the public? If these solutions held promise, they would be working on them, and there sure as hell is no guarantee we'd ever hear about it until they actually announce the product.
>>252426336
Stop assuming things. The Glyph was cool for what it did, but the fact of the matter is that it never ended up in a VR headset despite the company being really on-board with these kinds of ideas, even today. There isn't a lot of information/reviews out there about the product, but it seems like it certainly wasn't perfect, which may hint towards problems with it that would make it a bad fit for a VR headset. It's a lot easier to reconcile problems in your display technology if it's a low FOV.
>>252426637
it's rendered at 1440p per eye and upscaled, they say 8k because it's two UHD 2160p per eye screens, yeah. I would say it's 50% marketing.
The main reason why it not truely 4k per eye is because displayport has a really hard time above 4kx2k 60hz rendering on a cable any longer than 15 feet.
They would require dual output displayport to pull it off, and would have to write some kind of insane custom WDDM driver which they were not going to do.
Instead they opted to do stereo rendering at near maximum of the resolution/hz bell curve and upscale in a hardware scaler inside the headset.
It's not a terrible solution if you think about it. If video cards get fast enough in the future they MIGHT be able to open it up to actual full resolution with some kind of upgrade kit at the cost of refresh rate.
>>252426513
sure, just use steamvr desktop theater or bigscreen or virtual desktop. That's what they exist for.
>>252426884
It's 720x480 per eye and arguably 3 year old product. They only had 720p led projectors that would fit in the thing I imagine at the time. micro 4k projectors are pretty new even by today's standards. Here's the thing. Projectors look a fuckload better than lcds because there's no screedoor since the light is projected. Even a 800x600 true projection from a 1080p source looks really fucking good if you're far enough away. It's not as good as 1:1, sure, but it's way better than a 1024x768 lcd monitor by leaps and bounds for video.
You have to remember that how sharp something is and the FOV you get is a sliding scale. This is a screen density calculator. Play with it a bit: 30ppd is what most people consider "really fucking good" (for a screen)

Also there's one other thing the glyph has that other things don't, and that's focal, independent ipd, and diopter. I have no idea why hmd don't have this.

>Also there's one other thing the glyph has that other things don't, and that's focal, independent ipd, and diopter. I have no idea why hmd don't have this.
Same reason why cheap cardboard headsets somehow also have those adjustments. Stop pretending like you don't know why. You don't want to know why, because you think you're smarter than the people actually engineering these things.
>>252427298
for example, this is what the index is expected to be.
Optics can fudge the "view distance" which can give you a higher fov.
>>252427949
enlighten me.
A 1000$ headset should have the ability to adjust a simple lens position mechanically while also having a screw to adjust screen distance from lens for people with glasses. it lowers fov, sure, but at least the index has 2/3 figured out.
>>252427086
>>Is the physical limit of LCD/OLED tech small enough for virtual desktop VR using the same lens tech, or do we need some hardware paradigm shift to get there?
We've got screen tech that's capable of it, the problem is that no money is invested into it. Because LCD and OLED are good enough for most applications.
High density displays require lenses to be useful. Which means that the markets for screen tech like LCoS are basically HMDs and projectors. And not only that, but optical lenses can only get you so far in a limited area, if you want a microscope you need to have a lot of space between you and the screen.
>>252428223
In the case of Valve, yeah I'm going to say they probably have little excuse. The Index is simply overpriced in terms of the value you're getting for the dollar relative to other headsets, even if it is the best (and this is true for most other products, as you get those diminishing returns, so it's unfortunate but that's what you get when you market to people with deep pockets). But for other headsets, it's pretty easy to see why it'd be much easier for a low quality cardboard thing, or a small footprint display in the case of Avegant, to be able to easily have a ton of mechanical adjustments.
>>252428413
I've always thought mirrors and/or curved lcds would be the ultimate solution to "space between you and the screen". You can increase distance 2x by using a 45deg mirror at on a screen at 90deg, and have that mirror be a micromirror array or simply curved so that it's set up at the average curvature of the human eye. You could simulate a screen at 12cm away in 6cm and so on, just put the lcds at the top of the hmd facing down instead of at the back of it.
This nifty little phone AR headset does that, and a few others in development.
I still think what we have is progressing pretty quickly. We'll get there.

>>252428768
I agree that it's sometimes not worth it to add a bunch of mechanical adjustments to the screens, however,
The gear vr does it extremely well - near legally blind people can use it without glasses and it's not particularly thick either. A super dense screen like the s8+ makes the clarity on a gearvr 2017 rival the best headsets today with very little SDE.
Why oculus didn't stick to those types of lenses in fucking everything is beyond me. They would have won the clarity war right out, and it's no surprise that people swap them into their vives.
I still think mirrors as lenses with the lcd above or below, or even in a forehead mount instead of behind would have been a very smart way to solve the optics problem. Two mirrors, one 45, the other 90, right into your face. Both of them on a sliding adjustment for focus, would be pretty nice.

However, mechanically speaking, it's still in the same class as "cheap cardboard headset". It also does not have IPD adjustment. Also the lenses are not as perfect as you think they are despite some reports of people benefiting from doing that Vive mod.

I'm guessing you're talking about your other posts which I didn't read, but nope, that would be a pretty bad idea. VR headsets are bulky enough as it is, no one in their right mind would design that product and expect it to sell well. If you have windows mixed reality, try to get yourself a bluetooth 4.2 or 5.0 adapter, and make it CLASS 1.
a startech USBBT1EDR4 AT LEAST, the bigger the antenna the better.
Some wireless adapters that are 1200ac also have bluetooth 5.0 with apt-x now.
windows mixed reality controllers track insanely better when you have the controllers paired to a super low latency bluetooth.
If the bluetooth is latent it's only used for button presses and the accelerometer is disabled, forcing you to rely on cameras only.
If the bluetooth connection is really good, windows will do sensorfusion and your tracking will end up way, way better.
get one that says 30m or 160ft or bluetooth 5.0. a pci-e adapter like pic related is only 30$ and will make windows mixed reality suck a LOT less.
it's still not perfect, but it's SIGNIFICANTLY better.

>>252436230
Vive controllers and trackers use Valve's baller ass proprietary wireless tech that is basically a custom version of bluetooth 4.2 that came 5 years earlier. It's on 2.4ghz too, but it's really, really good. It's a super low latency protocol used in the steam controller and steam link, they link to the headset.
There's a standard realtek bluetooth 4.0 adapter in the link box who's only purpose is to update the lighthouse base stations and trigger them on and off.
You can sometimes improve controller tracking for vive by minimizing usb devices on the same hub and removing all other sources of 2.4ghz wireless in the general vicinity including your router, and disabling the vive's bluetooth device if you don't care about basestation power control.
>>252436230
oh, you can also use the sync cable on the lighthouse to improve tracking on vive, and get rid of anything that might be even remotely reflective.
They don't need to be directly across from one another if you do that too.

>>252436930
indeed, but they need to be across from each other for sync flash, unless you run the cable
You can use any arbitrarily long sync cable too to make yourself some crazy insane huge playspaces but ideally your hmd should see two base stations hitting the sensors at the same time at all times, so not having the sensors mostly overlapping can lead to some partial tracking deadzones. Lighthouse goes crazy far though in a dimly lit environment so corner to corner with a sync cable is still best.
The sweep wave is just under 180deg wide so I suppose you could do something like a 90 deg overlap and kill all your deadzones if you mostly play in the center.

They are not perfect lenses, but they are lightyears better than the default Vive fresnel lenses. Having a crystal clear picture across your entire field of view(except for some chromatic aberration at the edges of the lens) is amazing. The best part though is the fact that there are no god rays whatsoever. I would recommend that mod to any vive/vive pro owner who doesn't wear glasses.

And I would not. Not everyone has an improved experience. Some people actually got worse visuals doing so, whether it was more distortion, pupil swim, etc. And at this point in time no one should still be using their Vive. Just upgrade to Index, or save up and upgrade instead of fiddling around with something that's potentially just a waste of time. Here are also other comments from a Valve engineer about why the lens mod might not be good for everyone and why the Vive lens was designed the way it was.

I don't understand how anyone could say this about the Gear VR lenses. I have own one. They are not clear across the entire lens. The center of the lens is the most clear and it gets worse as you look towards the sides. It's not a lot better than the Vive in that respect.

Uh huh, and how did this process go exactly? How did you guarantee that this "everyone" was well versed in optics and knows what good vs bad optics looks like? How did you make sure the comparison was done objectively? Did you seriously have an unmodded Vive setup side by side to test? How did you make sure there weren't any changes with long-term usage (for instance, letting users try them for at least 1 hour, versus letting them try it for at least one hour on the unmodded)? We know already that short demos are unreliable when it comes to eye strain for VR optics. And what was your sample size?

Oh come on, it doesn't matter when you linked it. That bit is entirely irrelevant to you making a point unless you repost what you actually said. And your TL;DR is pretty flawed. It's not just about motionlets. It's also about eye strain, and a deeper feeling of immersion/presence. If you get crappy optics, and you're not an expert, things can feel subtly off. That's what happened in a lot of Vive lens mods that people had.
And maybe you should think a little bit more critically about what you yourself are saying. Do you honestly think something that can cause more motion sickness won't also mean that it's doing something that isn't optimal for people who don't get motion sickness? For instance even outside of optics, artificial locomotion in games is not a perfect solution for VR even for people who don't get motion sick. Think about it. There haven't been studies on this, but it has been pretty well known that artificial locomotion actually decreases presence (although it may increase immersion, which is kind of a different thing). It's not that it's only just bad for people who get motion sick, but it also is not great for people who are immune. Now, unfortunately, there isn't a better solution to this problem, unless you can go into a big warehouse and use a laptop or Quest and redirected walking. So it's the best we can do. But it's definitely still not optimal, and optics are the same. Things that are subtly wrong may not bother you consciously, but there is a definite difference in what you may subconsciously or indirectly feel.

I brought both of my vives(one modded, one unmodded) to Pax East where several from vrg tried them. People unanimously liked the modded lenses vs the unmodded. Only one person didn't like them, but he usually uses an odysessy+ which is better than the vive by default.
