I never got into flat racing games, but VR makes it a lot more compelling. Assetto Corsa's VR UI is weird, but once you're just driving it works great. I'm getting shitty performance in VR games while my CPU and GPU sit at about 50%. This is a fresh install of Windows. I'm using the Performance OSD in Oculus Tray Tool and it says my perf headroom is negative 30%. What the fuck is wrong here and how can I fix it? I spent a shit load of money on an 8770k and an RTX 2070 and it can't even manage 90fps in Rec Room.

Depends on your country, but you should be able to build those specs for ~$500. Ask /pcbg/ in /g/ for details and deals to look out for.

Rift vs Vive vs Odyssey+ (or other WMR) vs Index is mostly down to personal preference. Some advantages and disadvantages, but you're not missing out on anything major. If there is a store or VR arcade near you that you can physically demo a headset before trying, that's the best way to tell. If I were buying a headset right now and budget is a concern, I'd probably go for a used Rift CV1 or a new Rift S.

Is the oculus home running at 90fps at least? Or other free stuff, like google earth vr, or even vrchat. FWIW, your gpu and cpu running at 50% in task manager is a red herring since nothing is fully multthreaded, but if you're dropping to 45fps, then that's the real problem.

You might double check that oculus tray tool isn't forcing ASW on, or some extreme supersampling. Download openvr advanced settings in the OP and check that steamvr supersampling is turned off too.

There is an INCREDIBLY serious VR sim-racing scene, if you're into that.

the Mclaren shadow project gave someone several million dollars, and a seat in a real racing car for formula E and formula 2. VR simracing is more like real racing though. If you're not good on a real track, you might not be good here, but it's a thing with some serious cash. Using proper inputs and VR increases your score, basically the more like real driving it is the less penalties you take, and that league is right inside the game itself. It requires a race pass, meaning you can't just crash into people, there's a "skill gate".

OVRdrop hasn't had a single public update in two years, so I went to look and the guy has been pushing beta builds, with passwords, that have new features. At first he was using his github to give out these passwords and changelogs(https://github.com/Hotrian/OVRdrop-Public/wiki/Accessing-Alternative-Builds), but after reading the Steam forums for the program, he said he's moved onto just using discord for beta builds that should just be public builds at this point. Anyways, my point is that we're missing out on some potentially good features because he's a dumbass.

You'll lose about 10% CPU to SteamVR, so it usually doesn't make too much difference. I can run H3VR at 4x SS, record and it maintains 90 FPS. Alright so I've tried out the quest a bit, here's some information for you guys. My headset before this was a Vive

I tried it on the bus and the train, it took a while to function on the train but it did work. You'll likely have some issues still but I got it to work sitting in a train like the picture with just one wall of windows in front of its cameras. On the bus which had a different seating layout all facing toward to it's front and Windows on its side and ahead of it it failed, when it did allow me to enter a playspace the alleged floor and menus were all at an angle.

So far the games have been quite good. I played the beatsaber demo and received an S ranking for the first time ever which I believe is due to the better controllers, I played the Star Wars story which had a very nice atmospheric feeling and art style to it, Robo recall was amazing fun and felt much better than my only other experience playing it on a rift being able to see everything much better such as incoming bullets with less screen door effect, Super Hot was also great but I haven't played it on another headset so cant compare it, Rec room felt just the same as on the Vive but currently a lot of the worlds and ironically the Quests themselves arent Quest ready yet. VRchat was somewhat bland due to the lack of content so far but we will get more in time, I have shit internet so can never get to large meetups without disconnecting in a matter of seconds but somehow could with the same internet on the quest which is real good news for others with bad connections.

Superior in every way, the screen door effect is still there but barely noticible in comparison and everything seemed much more real and immersive. There is no rings on the lens like the vive has which always reminded me I'm just wearing some goggles. Text is much more readable and things don't need to be large to be possible to make out, I can use the web browser without having to zoom in the page to read anything. Near the edges of the view there is a distinct cut off line where things convert from high quality to pixelated but it was no issue for me, I see it more like a retro game art feature. I also don't need to move my head to look at things clearly since things are high quality across the majority of the view instead being able to just move my eyes.

Find ways to hold the controllers steady. You can brace them against and arm, the headset, each other, etc. or use the virtual stock if you don't mind it feeling wrong.
Align the first shot with ironsights, then adjust with tracers. As you improve you can point shoot or even fire from the hip.
Avoid attachments unless you have excess money because they reduce kill reward a lot.
Generally stay with teammates.
Avoid fighting better players head on, especially in the initial engagement.
Don't get tilted and ignore/mute anyone being negative. This is very important.
