You'll notice how in the real world, it's absolutely trivial to keep your controller perfectly in like with your head. With a stock, the same is true of a 2 controller setup.

In VR, this just isn't the case. As you turn, your controller will pivot unnaturally, and you'll have to counter-correct it by twisting your hand.

Note the travel, dude, not the overlap. That's at least 5mm, probably closer to 7, which is more than enough to knock gun sights out of alignment over even small angle adjustments.

I get it, you use red dot sights, when your sight picture moves out of phase a bit, you just counter-correct, it's not that big of a deal. It's a much bigger deal with iron sights, and really noticeable with the higher resolution of the Index.

the controller models clip in to each other in different degrees depending on the game and in steam the amount they are off depends on controller it might just be misalignment in the software, you could have them clip just by having the scale of the models wrong
what would be a problem is if the controllers clip into each other inconsistently and randomly, as long as they clip in the same amount every time in the same software it doesn't matter if they clip, it's accurate because it's consistent

It's not strictly "random", but depending on the direction you're facing, you're getting a totally different response. In VRAM it's ALWAYS the same size determined by compression, not image contents. Use BC7 compression in unity for maximum quality per size and ensure the maximum dimensions are set high enough. I'm guessing some people use the default 2k limit for 4k textures and DXT5 compression which is absolutely fucking your texture quality.

Quest is the best bang for your buck, no contest.

Completely portable VR kit with no wires. Native games run great. And you can always play desktop PC VR games with free software like ALVR and ReVive. Unless your wireless network at home sucks, streaming PC VR titles to the Quest works great. You can play Steam or Oculus desktop games all you want, but with no wires, and in any room in your house you want.

Quest might not have the most powerful hardware since it's a fully portable kit, but the benefits far outweigh that drawback if you want to take it to a friend's house for game night.

Having used the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift extensively, I can easily say the Quest is preferable due to the tetherless experience alone.

Tetherless VR is the the only way to go. Tethered VR is living on borrowed time at this point.

On the other hand, I wanted to cover some details, like the red ribbon, which, while interesting, distracted from the awkward story of the eyes and hands of these three people I wanted to tell.

And that's why the cutout is sized up and the ribbon hidden.

please halt whatever you're doing and help me with my CV1 Oculus. It was working fine for 2 years but then today I picked up and the left audio suddenly disappeared. I tried tightening the screws, swap the ear piece, and flexing the strap and cleaning the connectors but nothing fixed it. My suspicion is that its a software issue and not a loose/broken wire cause I left some music blasting while I was doing all this and nothing came out, which according to many people having this issue, sometimes sound come out but then disappear. Mine just flatout doesn't play anything in the left ear

The oculus runs audio along a ribbon connected through the strap that goes around the head.
Over time it can get loose and just get disconnected. I had it happen to me with both headphones, and then even the IR lights on the back portion, going out.

I'm sorta considering VR, my friend has an OG rift and has been getting a lot of use out of it. The Rift S is the most reasonable option at the moment, that's what oculus built it for. The index is overall better, but it's not $600 better. I went from cv1 to index, and I still miss the touch controllers, but the headset itself is a definite upgrade.

If you want to go cheaper, the samsung odyssey+ is still around for like $300, and it's good except for the controller tracking. Might be worth it if you primarily want to play seated sims.

The Rift S audio is a double edged sword. I like that the headband audio keeps my ears cool in casual games but it needs earphones or headphones if you need quality or detail. Whether your headphones fit over the halo strap is also an issue and I find my MDR-V6s do not fit comfortably unless I have the halo higher on my head than usual so I usually just use earphones.
