the index is generally (and I can say from experience) considered the most comfortable headset by a mile. Other hmd (especially quest) will sit in a weird way on your face and cause pressure, the cosmos being the least of that but it's garbage otherwise. I want a VR multiplayer space RTS where you command your space fleet from your capital ship. I want to be fully immersed in the world whilst also overlooking the battlefield and directing my formations.
Imagine directing a formation of battleships to perform a pincer movement and fire on the flank of an enemy formation and then you look up from the command table and walk to the bridge window and you can see in the far distance the faint sparkles of laser cannons firing and explosions wiping out countless numbers of men.

If you're not an autist though, it's close enough to not matter. What does matter is headset comfort and the Quest is one of the most uncomfortable headsets. With mods, it becomes more tolerable, but it's still not as good.

What VR makes apparent is that the immersion limitations in most games are from bad AI limiting the interface. RTS games are all about micromanagement, because that's how RTS e-sports defined the genre, because Blizzard couldn't do decent pathfinding in the 90s. This requires an interface where you can quickly and precisely tell every single unit what they should be doing every few seconds. This doesn't work in VR.

A fleet command RTS in VR would have you necessarily receiving reports from subordinates and giving commands in plain English to be carried out by the fleet, possibly referencing maneuvers you've trained the fleet on beforehand. It would be an amazing game built on even more impressive technology, but people would still be pissed they couldn't control the ships individually with mouse clicks and bitch about how it shouldn't be VR because you could play it better on a screen as a regular RTS.

Alright Anons, apologies for being so late currently sick and trying to muster up the energy to do anything. Being sick won't stop shop though, going to go forward with it anyway. I didn't expect that much interest for Rec room to spring up like it did, but there was a critical issue of player cap. I don't know how to resolve the issue of players being locked out of the lobbies, and the age old pavlov issue of "wanting to be in the cool one". I have a proposal to fix this issue, if multiple organizers are willing to host the same game that night, and we get a hold of prizes or some reason to compete against each other, that will allow everyone who wants to play to be included. It is a rough idea and how this would be pulled off is something I have wanted to try before, but if we want /vrg/ to try out games like this, we need a better system for handling the numbers. We have the anons with the brains and the numbers to pull it off, going to give it a shot this Friday.

this spooky map called Dead Station was extremely low on spooks, but had an amazing zero gravity gimmick. according to the text prompts at the start, they entirely replace vrchat's default locomotion using the climbing prefab as a base. (you even select what vr controller you are using so it can adjust your controls accordingly) for most of the map you are in actual zero g, and you use the climbing orbs to move yourself around by grabbing shit or just literally just punching away from surfaces. it's a bit jank in how it detects hitboxes, you will sink in the floor to your like, chest. and its more like a tech demo. this big boy weighed in at like 350mb or something

Upgraded my second PC from FX8350 to Ryzen 5 3600 with a B450 Tomahawk Max.
Before it was really struggling to play VR on this PC. Not so much the CPU and the 390X but the ancient motherboard was getting crazy hot trying to handle all the throughput I guess.
Underclocked to 3.45 ghz and max power reduced to 55w instead of the default 68w, my Mixed Reality headset is actually working pretty great. Not even the 390x is getting as hot anymore (it really shouldn't since it has a huge Accelero Extreme IV cooler on it and its so big it slightly bends the board. Its getting replaced with a 5700XT next month because it makes me paranoid)
Playing Beat Saber and Gorn, the CPU didn't exceed 50 degrees, and the GPU didn't go past 55 either.
It's really nice since the kitchen is the only place in the house with suitable room for Mixed Reality. Less chance of slapping ceiling fans and walking into walls.

I mean my main PC is a 6700k with a 1080ti anyway. But that PC is for my tiny bedroom which currently has a massive keyboard I'm learning to play setup in there. Not been switched on in months due to how hot it gets in there in the summer.
Since the motherboard was all kind of fucked up anyway in this PC (kept losing my windows harddrive and corrupting it's BIOS menu) it made sense to upgrade it first.
Next year I might get a better headset than a Mixed Reality. All comes down to cost. I never ever want to spend more than £350 on a VR headset and most of the headsets out look like sidegrades in that price range.
Any good recent releases in VR to check out? Not played in months till today.
