Right, so the Link BETA update is out now, people are using it. Official documentation states it doesn't work with ANY AMD GPUs but people are saying this is false and it is working with Vega cards, 5700 XTs and everything inbetween.
I cannot personally test it as the Oculus Home software is refusing to accept any of my USB ports as USB3 or USB3.1, despite the fact that I have two of each which work just fine for everything else.

depends how much you use it I suppose but contrast with the rift and vive, the controllers seem to be the biggest issue with the index. Rift controllers rarely need to be rma'd. like, over time you may develop controller drift, but just adjusting deadzones usually can bandaid that issue.

vive controllers seem to break after a while, particularly i think something about the trackpad just dies over time. but this after maybe a few months or a year. the knuckles however, Ive seen people who've only had it for less than a few months already have to send them back because something broke or stopped working.

as far as headset quality itself goes, index does seem to be at the top. I think the vive was ok? i dont recall people having too many issues with it, but the oculus, while having better visual quality than the vive, has at least 2 major design flaws that WILL lead to problems, that being the way the visual/audio cable is positioned and clipped to the side of the headset causing a kink to form over time which requires replacing the cable, and 2, the ribbon audio cable that goes through the rear headset strap WILL wear down and break over time, causing loss of audio in one or two ears.

But while those can be more easily bypassed, having to send your controllers in for repair is a bit of a bigger issue than just buying a new cable or using your own headphones

My guess is it will be a "explore relatively safe area, hunker down into a 2mx2m 'safe' spot to take cover & get into a shootout bit, then when all the enemies are gone go around and explore again" kind of affair. Movement will be the slow-paced stuff, stay-in-place shootouts will be the intense parts. Shooting & moving at the same time is a big ask in VR, but there will no doubt be tons of interactive objects strewn all over the world. Expect to be able to pick up and throw literally everything, break stuff, set complex physics based traps, that kind of thing.

Half Life VR is honestly exactly the thing I've been wishing for - both for the industry and for the series. In fact, I posted that in the thread a very long time ago.

They couldn't have delivered with a "normal" Half Life 3. The expectations are unreachably high, but with VR (and it being a prequel) you are both lowering expectations because the broad audience still thinks that VR is a "gimmick and a fad that will fade away" while at the same time setting up an extremely pleasant surprise for people who hadn't tried VR before but will experience it's marvels for the first time in this Half Life title.
It would blow them away. The game itself doesn't even have to be great, it simply being VR and some physics shenanigans will be revolutionary enough.

I hope it will also give the industry a significant boost in users or at least attention, though I am not expecting a drastic paradigm shift.
