Alright anons, it is that time again, last workshop was a dead-ass atmosphere, been tired and overworked lately, so I wasn't able to maintain the usual lets work deal. Got a model finished through it though, and everyone else kept on task so that was a nice part. Leading into Christmas and the development of Lavender the idea of lessons keeps becoming apparent. When I have my free time, I would like to talk with some of the experienced or good at educating anons about this idea in detail, to see if we could deliver some kind of bite sized lessons for anons that show up. The same basic issues hit the anons who don't know the basics, and if we could resolve that, more could make avatars whenever they feel like it for whatever event, or just for personal use. The regular kind of personal use btw.

Pavlov was a success last week, highest turnout yet, one of these days I am free, possibly around thanksgiving some of the previous stuff will be uploaded. The office map with that many people was interesting, the skill struggle and the use of grenades got one team to lose, but then they learned the usual tricks, and started to push back. Each map felt like a group learning experience which was fun and fascinating to take part in. Steel heroes was fun as well, tank games going on in VR against other VR players was fun, the bots were painfully good to fight, but eventually we all learned how to fight the tanks. Added some more options to the vote to gauge interest. other anons who want to host, take a look at the results and see if there is something that would be a good idea to host if you have an interest in it.

I'm having a hell of a time getting Assetto Corsa working right.
Nothing shows in my headset, just "Up Next", so I take it off and go over to my computer, where the game is running and sitting at menus. I make sure everything is set to what I think is correct, my rendering option is my Rift. Still nothing on my rift, so I pick a car, pick a course, click start and suddenly i'm shown the VR mirror, so I pop my headset on and it's working! Except i've got no controls, nothing I can do, not even bring up SteamVR overlay.

The assetto corsa VR mode is pretty lazy, unfortunately. You actually do get the in-game UI for switching tires and other pit stuff in VR, but it's just stretched across your vision, and you have to use your actual keyboard and mouse to interact with it. Lambda1vr is an extremely good port of HL1 into full VR, full motion control and everything. Works basically flawlessly.

Never played Wipeout. Depends on the map. On some it's more the former, on some it's more the latter. I find that you can generally get by on most maps (that I've played anyway) without memorization, but you will absolutely do much better with a bit of memorization.

I mean, I think I disagree with that a bit. There's rarely any big damage that comes to you when you smash into walls. All that happens most of the time is that you get slowed down a bit by touching the walls. And it's actually part of doing well. On a lot of maps, you want to touch the walls to get the best time, or rather, you want to not break.
So I would say the game is very forgiving, but the skill gap can be large.

Theres a guy who made his own solution using two or more kinects and had full tracking like that. The issue was that the kinect resolution was low so its not perfectly accurate but it was still pretty decent.

For me, the best thing about it is the display and sound. High resolution display with no screen door effect. Not everybody wants built-in headphones but I appreciate them for convenience and immersion. They have good bass and 3D sound and get plenty loud.

The only real downside is the tracking since it uses inside-out and relies on two front mounted cameras. Aiming gets weird when you move your hands close to your head or behind your back. What were Valve thinking when they were developing the index controllers? The thumbsticks feel cheap and most likely are. My left thumbstick is already "loose" after a month of usage. Just got dirt rally 2, why is there no resolution option in the settings? I read that you can change it in the config file but it just resets and ignores my changes. Making it so the game is a terrible blurry mess.
