Unironically, a well fitting pair of stiff crocs are WAY better than foot straps. The hole in them allows for a proper bolt and washer, and they slip on and off, strap at the back and stay clean. Integrating a battery is dirt simple and you can even balance the weight that way.
As for a belt, just drill a hole in an old belt, washer, bolt, portable battery on usb, couple zip ties, done.
The straps really aren't worth it and are less comfortable and functional. Takes me longer to put my hmd and index controllers on correctly then it does my fbt, which takes literally 5 seconds, slip shoes on, adjust belt, done.

I'm using a pair with an inner lining that are fairly stiff but really light, that fit really well. Dancing is no problem and I was able to integrate the tripod divot so they don't spin either.

You could be right about battery life with 1.0 lighthouses, they kinda need to poll the watchdog timer array twice as often in a way.
You want 2.0 hardware either way even if you stick with 1.0 lighthouses because they track better generally speaking. The infratometers and soc to read it are just plain better.

That's a myth. I have an Index with 2.0 base stations.
1.0s were only a thing for a few months in late 2017-early 2018. After the first VRChat hype they went out of stock and replaced by 2.0.

you can fully charge a tracker with a smallish battery pack several times though, generally. They do charge fairly fast. I usually just take a seat for a bit or just turn them off and allow them to charge up in 20 minutes.
It's very rare that sessions in vrc go over 18 hours.
With a battery pack attached, even a small one, you can get 18-24 hours out of them I've heard.

I've taken apart one of my trackers, about half the space is taken up by the custom HTC battery. No other off-the-shelf battery meets that size/capacity. The remaining space is the PCB with which I'm sure could be miniaturized to some degree to maybe fit a slightly larger battery inside. The pogo connectors take up literally no space and the main reason for the shape of the trackers is to have a good redudant sensory array that is difficult to occlude and cause a loss of tracking.

Also remember that these things are Valve designed, not HTC designed and the only reason there's a monopoly is that none of us have got off our asses and used the information valve has published on steamvr tracking to make our own.

I think if the purpose was known to be fbt, the half moon design of the index controllers would be better, or even a full ring around your ankle/lower leg for occlusion prevention.
They were designed by valve, yeah, with the idea to get it up and out of the way of an accessory or be mounted to a monopod/tripod setup, but not mounted on your body so much.
The best setup for these for fbt would be a full ring for legs+elbow and a PAIR of hip sensors on either side or front and back.

That's only one OpenVR sensor if I'm not mistaken. For it to be an equivalent to an HTC Tracker you'd have to add:
- A bluetooth radio for pairing
- A battery and USB port for charging
- A case big enough for the tracker to be located by the base stations. That case would contain multiple of those hive trackers for 360 tracking and avoid occlussion.

I know it's not consumer, that's my fucking point. I would have to buy a bunch of these sensors, design and print my own casing, put it all together myself to have something that doesn't work as well as the already existed off the shelf vive tracker.

They also mention that they still have problems to work out concerning noise(which reduces tracking accuracy), calibration, and adapting to 2.0 light houses which will require an FPGA as their current microcontroller is cannot do what is required for that alone. The FPGA will increase battery drain.

Don't get me wrong, I wish these things were a valid replacement for the Vive tracker, but currently they are too early in their development and it doesn't look like they've done much in the last year so I have little hope that we'll ever see a finished product come out of this project.

Anyway: nolo, pimax, riftcat, alvr, logitech, htc, microsoft and oculus and a few other smaller chinese and other companies have all written native OpenVR drivers without bullshit like openvr input emulator.
It's not super EASY to code this stuff so people give up. Input emulator made it easy but it sucks. Valve doesn't give very detailed examples for steamvr skeletal tracking 2.0
That being said making your own lighthouse base stations aren't too hard either, but it's expensive and requires precision engineering.

I keep having issues with VRC where I'd join a world and then avatars will just stop moving, but I can still hear their voices and see them animate. Sometimes happens with as few as 5 other people in the world. Respawning doesn't fix it. Returning home and coming back to the world sometimes works, but more often than not I have to restart VRC.

I'm actually the same but I've built models from fullscratch. Learning how to do a lowpoly/medpoly sculpt or straight edge pull from 2d references is what you need to learn to do, and that's actually fairly easy.

Neos is similar in that way. The only thing that comes close to maybe what you're looking for is Sansar, but I'm sure the art style you won't like.

You're not going to get something tailor made for you unless you make it yourself, and vrchat allows you to do that without learning literally every aspect of game design and vr integration first.

Rift S tracking is really good, I never have problems with it

Since you can do both, it's a tough call. Im not sure how good the link really is though. Even if it's good, the Rift S screen is better.

Late reply but whatever. OpenComposite seems to work good overall, however it messes with the scaling of environments and proper placement of hand tracking, not to mention Fallout 4 looked like it ran through an even smaller texture size.

In the end though my headset's cable is kicking the bucket soon anyways so I think it's time to move on anyways.
