Gesture allows you to "animate" anything. Absolutely anything.
You can move a box you placed on your avatar below your feet. This box then collides with your avatar's feet as it moves up. And that gets registered as a push upward that VRchat has to obey.

I've decided that if I'm getting a VR set up it's going to be a Valve Index, it just seems better than anything else on the market, the controllers especially.
I haven't used an Oculus, but I've tried the Vive, Index and Samsung Quest and I've liked the Index the most.

The problem is the thing is a thousand fucking dollars, and I'd be buying that to play like a handful of games, Half-Life Alyx, Boneworks, Pavlov, some other fun fuck-around games like H3VR, and I'd have to pay extra money to buy Fallout 4 and Skyrim VR instead of them being just an upgrade for the game I already have for some godless reason, and I've heard they're awful VR games anyway.
I mean, I've considered buying a PS4 or Xbone and decided not to because they're only a handful of exclusives I'd actually even want, but a VR set up feels like a much more worthwhile purchase than buying a gimped PC I can only use to watch movies when I already have a Smart TV and BRD player and play a few exclusive games.

Convince me that I should or shouldn't get one.

Pavlov VR is basically VR Counter-Strike.

You don't need to know anything about the lore to really enjoy Fallout 4, having a deeper understanding of the universe adds a bit, but only really matters when they namedrop things and you can go "Oh! I know that name!"

As far as writing and story goes, Fallout 4 has the worst, most nonsensical plot out of any game in the series, and this is coming from a man who has played Tactics. (Though I haven't played the playstation exclusive TPS)

it tracks for a few seconds after losing the sight of controllers and most games make you have your hands in front of you for gameplay. I had no problems playing HL:A with Quest.

However in VRChat you might rest your hands on your sides and sometimes it loses tracking. Same when holding a pillow or something you need to be careful to have your controllers visible to the cameras.

I feel like it's on par with most headsets which isn't too much to say. The only headset I've found to have a good mic is Index. You can use equalization software to make it sound less shit by boosting bass and treble frequencies.

If you're just using Oculus' stuff it's idiot proof. Most complicated part is downloading Oculus software and connecting the link cable but that's super easy.

If you want to use 3rd party software like ALVR you need to sign up to Oculus developer program and get SideQuest. It's fairly easy these days. ALVR allows you to play SteamVR titles wirelessly at the cost of visual degradation and latency. Wireless is worth it though regardless.

There really aren't any decent full single player shooters for VR unfortunately. The closest you get is Boneworks and HL:A, but they have shit gunplay and shit firefights respectively. No other game comes close to H3's autism in any case.

For multiplayer you're basically stuck with Pavlov, even if it's shit, just because that's what everyone plays. Some people prefer contractors but there's barely any players.

I had no problem with blurriness but it might come down to my expectations of the fidelity. I've used Vive, Vive Pro and Index before. I streamed HL:A over ALVR using h265 and some fovation on top and bottom of screen.

The biggest visual glitch for me was how shitty the compression was on red colors and sometimes color banding but it's something I can just live with and doesn't really tick me off.

What should I do to optimise visuals through VD using the Quest? The image can be pretty blurry but there's not much latency at all. I usually just launch VD then open the game of launch SteamVR. The desktop looks okay but SteamVR looks like shit for some reason

1- Is there a way to play flat games in VR without paying for VorpX? Is such thing possible or are we stuck paying for it?
2- Are there any video players that support subtitles? Sometimes I get the itch to watch movies or series with the visor but being a foreign scum I still get a bit lost on the listening if the language is too specific.
3- Are there any other emulators aside from Dolphin VR that let you play games from console in VR? I've been playing lots of Xenoblade Chronicles lately and my dick is constantly hard with how good the conversion is. I would like to try more games if there's the chance.

PPSSPP VR, 3dSen VR, and VBjin-OVR. Most of them are way out of date though, and compatibility is pretty hit or miss.
EmuVR is an option too, although I don't think it's what you're looking for. It's basically just a retroarch frontend that lets you set up a room with consoles and TVs.

The underlying tech may be the same, but this current product is primarily meant to be used as a controller. Anything else it eventually ends up getting used for is just a nice bonus.
You should be able to pull tracking data from it through the SDK, but all of the existing games that use FBT need foot tracking, so unless those games update to support this or someone writes something that emulates a three tracker setup with it you're out of luck.

With the amount of information they have, you should be able to get close to the correct hip and foot positions with some tweaking, you just won't have foot rotation. It'd be way better than a Kinect though, and since it's inside out, it should be cheaper and easier to use than a hybrid setup if you're not on a headset with SteamVR tracking. That's assuming games start supporting it natively or someone hacks something together though.

I haven't felt nausea in VR in well over a year, but now I'm feeling pretty weird after a session of Dirt Rally.
I didn't feel anything strange while playing the game itself, but started developing an increasingly bad feeling of vertigo and nausea around 30 mins after I stopped playing it, and it increases in intensity when I lean my head in some direction.

Using fixed foveated rendering and using h265 makes it go further so that center is sharp and edges are blurry.

It would also improve graphics as you will have access to the power of a pc. the PCVR games are much more pretty in general.

If you have a 5Ghz wifi though that might work for you even without a cable but the advantage of the main oculus cable as well is that it will charge your headset on the fly. And there are next to no artifacting on the video nor latency. It ltierally just turns the quest into an actual pcvr headset. Quest link is powerful

Wait so how exactly does their tracking work? I saw mention of a rotational sensor, but specifically, is it that there is an IMU in each leg, and then a sensor that detects the rotation of the motor? Do we essentially have the rotational values of both our lower leg and upper leg? If so, that MIGHT be able to do something. Given a calibration step that we might need to do periodically, and assuming the player's legs never both leave the ground at the same time, we could "pin" at least one foot to the ground at all times, which would let us work backwards in solving the position of the lower leg and upper leg. Then we could just use IK to solve the rest. If they don't do it, anyone could likely use their SDK to create an OpenVR plugin that does all of that, and additionally emulates Vive trackers. You can use ALVR or Virtual Desktop to stream PCVR games wirelessly. I haven't tried VD though.

There's some latency and visual degradation compared to wired setup or Vive Wireless but I think it's a fair tradeoff for the wireless and overall flexibility of Quest. I played HL:A over wireless with no problems.

I also got Link for when playing Pavlov or other multiplayer games where the latency actually fucks you over compared to other players. Quest wireless Pavlov turns you into support role who spray and prays from a position of advantage.

If you have oculus, the oculus dash lets you pop out individual windows. On steam, xsoverlay does it for $10, and ovrtoolkit does it (but slightly worse UI in my opinion) for $10. You'll still need the dummy dongles if you want additional full monitors though, and the individual popped-out windows have some issues like menus or popups being non-interactable. It's okay enough for just checking the internet while in VR, but don't expect to do actual work in it. VR resolution is too low anyway.

It's quite sophisticated and limits the drawcalls per booth submission to 30 max with 15 meshes. So you really have to optimize a lot.
What they don't have though is a mesh counter. So a really high detail mesh will go through as long as it is under 10mb total within that booth. They even give you a way to bake skinned meshes into normal mesh.They also limit the amount of allowable skinned meshes on a booth unless you ask for more allowance on a case by case basis.

It was great I don't hate it at all. It's nearly perfect.

But it just doesn't cater to advanced VR users. The design has so many compromises to not spook people too much, or to not let people lose if they miss enemies too much or don't look for ammo. The game just gives you stuff based on how much you already have.
