What the fuck? It's been at least 6 hours since I was playing VR and I'm still getting this weird feeling like I'm expecting things I look at to sometimes lag in my visions the way they lag when I'm in a VRChat room with too many users and/or graphical elements and/or a crasher avatar.
More than that, I'm just overall getting this feeling that reminds me of when your in an elevator on a swing or whatever for too long and it feels like you're still doing it.
But is weirdly intense and not quite the same. I know there's supposedly this eye thing that happens, but this feels like even more than that. There's this ghost of a headache from my sense of distance fighting myself and I still feel like the headset is strapped to my head with my peripheral vision just weirding me the fuck out as if I never had it in my life to begin with.

Then there's what I'm guessing is the more expected effect where whenever I turn my eyes, I feel like they go out of focus for a second.

This is kinda freaking me out. I don't even get motion sickness, and yet I'm getting this...

Is it really healthy to use these things for the same prolonged periods of time that we might expect to play a video game for with all that light directly in front of our eyes and causing integral aspects of our vision to stop working, like a short circuit?

I'm worried what's going to happen with this kind of intense usage over a more prolonged period of time like weeks, months or years. Maybe even just days.

Updated the Assetto server by request since some people want to drink and drive tonight at 10PM EDT. You can show up even if you don't want to drink, just expect to deal with drunk drivers.

It's normal to experience these sort of effects. As you say your perception can already be skewed from being in an elevator or on a swing for too long, so too does your perception alter after having to adapt to the conditions of VR. For many the appearance or perspective of screens and monitors out of VR suddenly resemble the floating panels you see so much in VR but that effect quickly diminishes into nothing as your VR usage becomes regular. For me, it even felt similar to the feeling I got after my first psychedelic trip where I couldn't help but stare at the perspective and '3d-ness' of trees because I wasn't sure if my perception was still being influenced by the drug or if trees always looked like that before.

Whenever you have it screaming about not having a DP connection, USB connection, not detecting your headset, or getting a "static crash", try the following:
- Close Oculus software, by task manager if you have to
- Search for and open the services application
- Restart the Oculus VR Runtime service
- Unplug the USB cable (not DP, even if that's what the error was), wait a bit, and reseat it
- Restart Oculus VR Runtime service again to be safe
- Run the Oculus app and check to see if the issue persists

If the above fails then you'll need to restart your PC, but this fixed issues 90% of the time for me. Buying a powered USB hub also helped me a lot, I very rarely get any of the mentioned issues now.

Adding to pile of maps that manipulate vrchat player movement with udon, I've got a half-working quake-style movement map going. Bunny hopping acceleration and strafe jumping works, plus janky rocket jumping. It technically works in VR too, but a lot harder to do with a broken index thumbstick.

It works by entirely ignoring the default vrchat player collider and movement and using colliders only on the Walkthrough layer, which are then manually raycast for ground detection and depenetration forces. However, I still don't get how to do proper raycasting for things like ground snapping, so you just float down slopes now, and surfing doesn't work. If anybody who understands quake/source movement better than me wants try, source code at https://gist.github.com/hiinaspace/128206c08549ba85f90d75801cffe3df

You can use the same technique to do echo arena or space junkies style zero-grav movement. You can't affect the player's roll or pitch though, only yaw. However, you can put the player into a station (chair) for 6DOF rotation. I have a prototype of that too, but no environment grabbing implemented yet.

I used to join meetups, but it would take me several hours of drinking and mentally preparing myself to finally join the instance. Then I'd immediately move out of the spawn area to somewhere no-one could see me and try to figure out somewhere to stand that didn't look too out of place while I tried to assess someone i could approach. Usually I'd settle for going in front of the mirror but the people already there would usually just ignore me. Sometimes I would play around with the props instead. Occasionally I'd finally force myself to walk up to someone, but almost always they'd either run to another group, leave the instance, or get annoyed. The few times I approached groups, they didn't acknowledge I was there at all and whenever I said anything it was totally ignored. The occasional person would headpat me for a few seconds then go to other people. The entire time was just listening to other people being more successful while trying not to be overwhelmed by the sense of being ignored. After 30 minutes of this, or a few hours if I really tried, I'd give up and leave feeling incredibly depressed that I'd completely failed again and consider quitting. Over the week I'd plan for things I'd do differently next time, but never actually changed anything. I repeated that almost every weekend for two years.

I don't think controller issues are really that much of a problem if we take a god game approach. Black&White is such a good example of a scheme that can moved into VR if you think about how the camera pans by grabbing the ground and pulling your view around. Combat between groups of units rather than individuals would also work better, like how Total War units don't require the levels of micro and precision as gookclick RTS. There are some dedicated sleep maps. If it has dim lighting, a blue tone, and gentle music, it's probably a sleep map and they're probably unconscious. Other maps like the Void Club, that's just them and their "culture" of mirror staring. It's a sort of "that's what people are doing so I'm doing it to" kind of bucket of crabs mindset. You kind of have to participate if you want to look them in the eyes while talking. On the bright side, the mirror helps with headpat alignment.

You should be within minimum acceptable specs for VR although I hope that's a 6600 or 6600K. Shouldn't cause tracking loss nevertheless.

You should link up your base stations with the sync cable and try to minimize reflective surfaces. Check that you have your base stations set to 'b' and 'c' modes. If you have a big window in your room pull up the curtains or you can try putting both base stations on that wall to ensure the window is not causing the problem.

Having both bases on the same wall improved my overall tracking while causing a single noticeable dead spot for Wands when facing directly away from them.
