I dunno, I feel like none of the weapons besides missiles do any damage. I like to play the sniper model, so I tested its railgun on a goldrush bot and it took 12+ shots before a teambot stole my kill with missiles.

Lasers have the issue of being usable for about 5 seconds in a headon fight before you overheat yourself to death, and they're absolutely useless for long range.

Sounds like you need to upgrade your gpu or cpu more than anything. Used to be a problem on my 1050ti and 4570k. No such issue on my Ryzen 7 3700x and RTX 8gb 2080 now for jsut about every game. Contractors, Pavlov, Onward, and vrc all run fine for me now compared to when my old setup.

That's definitely not true. My right trigger is squishy and non-responsive sometimes and I'm always gentle with it. Unless a 3-foot drop onto carpet did it, that is. Again, not that big of a deal since the controllers are small and I can accept small compact tech is going to be more fragile.

yeah it's a combo of the type of USB ports I have that have semi-notorious issues with the rift (ASMedia) and the fact my board was out just before VR really took off, so there are still some 2.0 ports on it.

In research, there are some projects to do body tracking from rgb cameras + ML, but they all require a bunch of GPU resources and nobody is trying to commercialize or even make an open source version of them. There are some pure magnetic/inertial trackers as well, but also only research or more expensive commercial mocap (perception neuron). the vive tracker technology is technically open and DIYable, but the only existing project https://hivetracker.github.io/ is pretty dead, or at least I've never seen anybody actually make one besides the paper writers.

I really want to get into VR again. I have had an HTC Vive for some time (it wasn't mine, but I can get it again).

The thing is, I have waited since then to this to actually get cheap for good stuff, and I have been on the verge of getting a Lenono Explorer, since it was the cheapest for some time.
A lot of shit has came out since then, Pimax, more WMX including a second Samsung Odyssey, Index, some Rifts and now this one.

So, if I want the best experience and I don't mind spending up to 1500€, which headset and controllers are the best? Like, in the comments of that tweet someone said something about index's controllers being better. Can't I jsut use Index's controllers with another headset? Like, getting the best VR headset and controllers.

If it has headphones and mic from Index and the screen from first gen Reverb the HMD will be pretty good. It all comes down if WMR has nailed inside out tracking and how competitive the controllers are to Rift S. If those are good enough it's good middle ground for plain wired headset between Rift S and Index.

Much better positioned than any of the Cosmos line.

kek, that's the same history that the HTC Vive then. I repared my friend's controllers (I just added some paper or tape unde the touch button). He had 3 systems with 3 pairs of controllers and a back up pair, i fixed them all in a few minutes each.
I will save my money until I can get the index at the original price or less then. I will just use my friend's HTC Vive in the meanwhile.

It all comes down to what you want to do in VR.

If you want the best experience and full body tracking you're limited to Lighthouse tracked devices. Hybrid setups are passable but definitely not the best experience. If you want wireless with that there's only Vive Pro and I guess Cosmos Elite but I have no 1st hand experience with that. You can use Index controllers with any Lighthouse tracked headset.

If wired is ok and you want FBT then Index is the best experience. Without FBT the choice comes to Rift S or I guess Reverb G2 but I'd wait for Reverb reviews.

I've used a bunch of headsets and ended up with Quest. I either use it wireless through ALVR or with Quest Link depending on games. FBT is sometimes fiddly as you need to sync up the Steam and Oculus playspaces and they sometimes just get desynced for no good reason but when it works its pretty good. I preferred Touch controllers over Index controllers.

Controllers seem like a big improvement over 1st gen WMR, but the camera placement is going to be a downgrade from a Rift S.

I guess at $600, it's closer to the Rift S than Index, but it still feels like it's in a weird place since it's a downgrade from the Rift S in some ways like tracking and controllers. My Index controllers usually last ~8-12 (?) hours per charging. That's a lot of time.
My Vive trackers last 4 hours, but I added 2800mAH chargers (20€ each) to all my trackers, adding another 8 hours for a total of 12 hours. I never sit down, though, so I usually take a break way before the trackers+chargers run out.

I prefer Wands over Index for games that use a paddle like Eleven: Table Tennis and Beat Saber due to Wands being more natural for that kind of thing and for some shooter games like Pavlov due to the Wand trigger being actually pretty good.

I have this set up but replace the htc wands with 2 more trackers. It isnt going to work for anything other than laying down, for everything else its going to look garbo. You'll have to constantly adjust and re-calibrate. USBs are going to struggle with how much is going on here. Save yourself some tears and pain, just save for an index or use a vive.

Attaching the Wands to your feet is also a big problem with that setup as there's no 1/4" screw hole to use and the weight of the handle is going to make them off balanced. You can attach them to your shins pretty easy but then you sacrifice actual feet tracking to just leg tracking. It's also throwing money on deadend hack while you can still sell actual Vive Trackers at 90% of their retail price when they're stocked and over retail price whenever the supply runs dry.
