/vrg/ - Virtual Reality General #919

Oh, who am I kidding. I'm never going to be able to establish a deeper and more meaningful friendship with them as someone has snatched that spot already. Let's be honest, there's only so many people a single person can keep that close to them. I just wish I had seen it sooner. Worst of all is that it'll take some time to stop hurting, along with the constant reminder of it whenever I see them. Maybe I should just learn to be genuinely happy for others.

Learn to admit defeat on time to spare yourself even larger pain further down the road.

What are your favorite Contractors loadouts?

When is /vrg/ finally going to move away from VRchat for an other metaverse?

When VRChat finally messes up bad enough for it to actually drive people away. That's assuming someone has a viable competitor by that time, which isn't the case yet.
The VRChat+ stuff is dumb, but they're not hiding any actual features behind it, it's basically just giving you a few useless perks for donating. If they're smart, they'll keep it that way.

>>314791754
>paying for uploads
>You have to pay to make content for them

at least Vrchat devs aren’t that fucking retarded
lmao

Would Oculus or Index controllers be a better option for VRChat? I like the idea of finger tracking but a lot of people seem to shit on the Index controllers.

>>314792294
>tfw will never be in any of these

>>314792503
be glad, I've respect for you

>>314792451
The OG Rift controllers are just nice and simple which give them a lot of benefit in terms of comfort and use.
That and they feel unbreakable overall.

Personally I prefer the Knuckles for the hand strap and the fact that I don't have to animate the fingers I just do the motion, but there's a lot of getting used to the fit and then doing gestures as well.

Just a reminder for EU dance hours - Saturday 28th November 10PM UTC
We got a DJ performing for us live in a brand new world, see you there~

>>314792364

Features that people have been banned for using as mods, now behind a paywall

>>314792503
If you actually wanted to be an avatarfag, the resident dataminer asked people to sign up a few threads ago. Be glad; though, it's better this way.

>>314791365
I’m glad that there’s a new shitpost chart that i’m not on

>>314792451
Oculus. Index controllers are great and they're really impressive, but tracking is not flawless, it's not always doing what you want to do. OG Rift would never do that to you because it had obvious binary controls, only two proximity sensor states (lift up, touch down, then analog press on trigger/grip itself) and you'd get your gesture 100% of the time.

Purely for VRC, i think Rift wins. Then again, it's nice to have independent fingers in game, it has to be worth something.

>>314792764
Unofficial vs. Official
That's all it is, are you really going to cry over not having 100 avatar favorite slots?

>>314793303
What about the custom nameplates that people have been implementing using avatars 3.0 and banned for using, now behind a paywall?

>>314792364
I'm more worried about actual microtransactions myself than the literally nothing that VRChat plus adds. For now I don't see a reason to try to move away from it. Chillout is still missing a lot of features and Neos is even less optimized than VRChat.

>>314792783
i prefer being anonymous with my fellow anon, but it's still nice seeing pictures i happen to be in posted

>>314793303
honestly my only gripe with vrc+ is that the price is hysterically disconnected from reality

>>314792764
I think the nameplate stuff they did a while back was dumb, although I can understand them wanting to keep some level of control over it. As far as I know, VRCX still lets you work around the favorite avatars cap, but I don't really need that anyways since I upload my own.
Neither of those actually require a client mod though.

>>314793434
People haven't been doing custom nameplates with AV3, are you retarded? It also makes sense that people shouldn't be able to take over other people's UI, while most of it was harmless it can be done maliciously so they need to draw the line.

>>314793434
I don't really hate them for trying to protect their revenue stream.

>>314790802
AKM for tryharding.
G36C for less hard trying.
Pump shotgun for fun.

>>314793926
it wasnt a UI thing, it was actually more obnoxious. people started adding a custom nameplate skin to their avatar that aligned with nameplate location.

which was annoying when you turned nameplates off and they still had an empty nameplate

>>314794046
Nameplates are UI. But yes your point is valid

CVR when?

>>314793731
I don't have a problem with some kind of system for selling avatars in game, but if it's anything more than an donation system for the rest, I think it'll eventually be a problem.

>>314794147
also i dont know anyone who ever got banned for it.

vrchat instead implemented a sneaky quickfix which made nameplates randomly offset almost imperceptibly up or down, which rendered the nameplate skins useless as they would now no longer perfectly align with the now randomly offset nameplates

Do i need any FBT-specific fixes to avatar armature nowadays?

I'd personally be worried with people monetizing worlds and requiring a pay per entry thing. I hope that piracy ramps up to respond to people selling avatars at least, especially as most of them are just going to be MMD frankenstein jobs where they don't provide the actual files unlike Booth stuff.

Uploading is also fairly straightforward. However, the SDK they use has a separate password system you need to log in to the site to get. I imagine it's because of how content "Creators" on VRC would steal accounts by going "no you give me your account so I upload it for you"

Lavender was shilled as a VRchat killer before even being launched

It feels like it's built more around on the fly content creation in game. That sort of thing is fun to mess around with, but it just doesn't feel like the same kind of experience.

I think neos could work as a social platform, as essentially a subset of its giant feature set, but clearly the dev team has other ambitions, which leave neos in an overly clunky state if you just want to do social things; both performance and UI. Vrchat is much more streamlined. Neos is still worth trying to see the full extent of its power though. The avatars and worlds and props in there are quite cool.

Shillout's devs are trying to optimize for the exact same experience as vrchat at least. They still are behind on polish and features (besides just amount of content and players) though so unless you're interested in alpha testing (or multiplayer dynamic bones, the one feature that does work well) there's just not much to see or do.

They're both True Mutes and true mutes are territorial animals. Like a south china tiger they mark their territory and only one true mute can inhabit that territory at a time. When keytar left mushypeas saw an opening and made vrg their home.

And the prison gay. Literally the VR equivalent of hoping it's a girl on the other side of the glory hole lol.

You can use VR Chat without a VR headset, can't you

>>314831206
the genshin models are cute and good
i dont usually like seeing people as actual anime characters because i already have a personality for that character in my head but idgaf about gachashit and most of the time the characters in it dont have a character anyway

>>314831842
yes, pleb

>>314831842
You can also play Vox without a vr headset but they both still belong here.

>>314831206
If you want to be an ultra chad, buy the kill la kill fighting game, join the discord, and dm a guy named dank and he'll help you rip from the game and set up his shader specifically built for those fighting games. made by the same company as dragon ball, guilty gear, and granblue so it should work just fine
shit looks real good

while inspecting my hands in Half Life Alyx they look blurry as fuck. not at all like pic related. I'm using a quest 2 running virtual desktop. Is this just what it's supposed to look like? is it the quest 2? is it virtual desktops fault? cause all these details are lost.

>>314831413
I've already been imprinted on a model
I just really enjoy when people play as characters from an established series
>>314831943
it's the exact opposite for me, I love seeing people's takes on the characters, seeing how "being" that character effects their personality, and the character they chose says something about them, even if they don't really behave as you would expect

>>314832405
what quality setting are you playing the game on?

>>314832405
quest 2 has shit quality yep

>>314832405
Could be the virtual desktop compression cucking you, but it could also be your eyes trying to focus on your hands "up close" but since the screen is still at a fixed focal length away it just makes everything blurry. After a few hours in VR your brain will give up, look up the "vergence accommodation conflict"

>>314827137
I still wonder who made this.

>>314832405
It might be your eyes. vergence accomodation conflict. Your brain expect that if you hold something close your eyes automatically focus close, but headset optics make it so everything you see is like 3-10 meters away, so you get bluriness. You might teach your brain not to do that in the headset eventually with more exposure to VR.

Alternatively try closing one eye.

Another alternative - virtual desktop compression is shit.

>>314813667
>not run like shit

>>314832570

They are crystal clear on the original Vive.

>>314832917

>>314837098
i only come here to ask technical questions. and the vrchat trannies fucking disgust me.

So why did Oculus take a shitty headset from Lenovo to release as Rift S, instead of just taking a CV1 and putting 4 tracking cameras on it?

The VRchat trannies are the people who answer your technical questions

>>314837821
by then they were probably all in on quest anyway, and gave the rift name to lenovo to play with.

>>314837098
Unfortunately, the price of a VR general that can produce at least some VR lobbies is literally hundreds of VRchat exclusive players that hate the idea of even trying anything else and an associated community in Discord full of people who rarely use VR at all let alone look at the thread.

>>314838462
What is this disinfo. The VRchat players you so hate are the people who make 99% of the lobbies as well.
Why spread hate when we can just co-exist

Reminder
PICTURE SUBMISSION
Deadline - December 10

SEND 1 happy memory for every month you’ve been in VR this year and we will place it in the map to reminisce on the good times we had in /vrg/ this year and get ready for the good year to come. (12 image total)

They'll be housed in a big nicely occluded room categorized per month. Only one room but there will be buttons to change the month. This is to better facilitate warm feelings looking at pictures together and maybe discuss them a bit with our good friends.

I do believe this is quite important and will illicit very nice and warm feelings as the year runs to a close. And would highly appreciate it if every anon can chip in 12 pictures of theirs from their year of 2020 here in /vrg/.

Please do send 12 pictures of your happiest and most kino memory to:
[email protected]
or directly to the organizers via DM

>>314839517

>>314811917
VRChat doesn't even have messaging in game, its a joke. The neat things that happen in VRChat are mostly hacked together garbage, its entertaining but not sustainable because of its "app" tier development.

>It feels like it's built more around on the fly content creation in game.

Life is centered around content creation in game, what you lack in creativity in formal life will follow you to things like Neos or Second Life, both platforms have the tools but do not demand creativity of you to use.

>>314818020
>but clearly the dev team has other ambitions
Other ambitions like... A working platform? To do what you wish with? Yea, those seem like good ambitions to me.

>>314839709

>>314839582
The botnet is a leech on the thread. Taking away eyeballs and thus people are less inclined to see if there are lobbies here.
But the only way to truly beat it is if the majority thread only denizens live well and actually have fun.

People come to where the fun is. If the thread becomes the comfy home compared to the botnet then people will come.
So let's continue having fun here, making events, lobbies, content, OC and all will be better in the long run.

>>314839885

>>314806817
he's posting on the thread, you don't see?, you silly :^)

>>314840074
God I want to ingest anon's flavor fluids

>>314839730
Neos doesn't have any way to make maps and avatars except in VR, which I think is misguided compared to relying on a unity SDK like vrchat/shillout. Among other things, I think most neosvr maps run so badly because they only have realtime lights, without any way to bake lightmaps in game. And the spaghetti coding system makes it impossible to use the rest of regular software development tooling like version control and libraries (a complaint I have with udon as well, but at least udonsharp crosses the gap). And no way to use custom shaders.

There are good technical reasons why neos works the way it does, but again, it's a difference in direction. As much as vrchat is a hackjob, I just like it better, and its success shows.

>>314814458
Thats Take and Hold. In take and hold you go to the hold points and active them but touching the node. After that you have to destroy encryption nodes while surviving the round from sosigs. IMO there is not a better mode for H3VR unless you mod T&H which are getting popular now. As for locomotion when you turn your hand around you can spawn an options panel and change stuff. I recommend twin stick for beginners.

>>314814458
H3VR is a novel concept but completely outclassed by the actual gameplay of games like pavlov unless you're a gun autist who just wants to masturbate to the models and shoot at paper targets

>>314839919
I don't think the problem is the state of the thread; it has been a lot better the past few months. It's that posting well in Discord provides a reward because said behavior is attributed to your name, while in the thread no-one will know even if you spend all day making shit tier posts. The thread is sustained solely by people who selflessly post things here instead of Discord despite the lack of direct benefit to themselves, which will always be a minority compared to people acting in their own short term interests.

>>314841508
God, this website is fucking dead. Does anyone actually value anonymity anymore?

>>314841341
>he isn't shooting hotdogs

>>314841846
Content creation and anonymity usually does not mesh well. We have a few who are selfless and still does it even without a perceived reward.

Anonymity's value has always been being able to discuss things without repercussion. Also to discuss things on the value and quality of the argument instead of a name attached to it.

If i was to order a valve index today how long would it take for me to actually have it?

>>314840726
I'll cede the map thing because I haven't tried to import an entire scene from somewhere else. I haven't had the same performance issues that everyone refers to either though so maybe I'm just an outlier.

However, disagree on avatars, I imported my avatar into Neos easily with an .fbx file and textures, and it was far more straight forward than when I did the same on VRChat. Also Neos has had baking for like a year.

Outside of /vrg/ it feels like VRChat's success has primarily been driven by non-vr using children and paid youtube shills and it really shows.

Is it that insane people are more likely to play a lot of VR, or that VR makes people insane?

>>314844353
Yes

>>314844353
I don't think its either, I think its a particular game attracting insane people. The same game that also happens to be the dominant topic of this thread.

>>314844353

>>314844534
I refuse to believe that such complicated psychological phenomena such as being mentally ill or gay are solely decided at birth. It is as juvenile and nonsensical a rationalization as saying that race is literally nothing more than skin color.

Is anyone interested in playing Pulsar: Lost Colony?

What are the pros and cons of a Vive Cosmos Elite vs a Vive Pro? Both seem to be SteamVR tracked so I'm not worried about the tracking as opposed to a normal Cosmos.

When the jannies designate your thread a shitting street it makes many lose trust in it. Shitposting damaged this thread, and blaming people for not wanting to look at it when at its prime terrible had 300+ deleted post isn't bad, they are just sane. 4chan is dying because we have hiromoot at the head and the jannies let places like /vrg/ rot hoping the problems just solve themselves magically.

>>314846502
Nigger every single thread on this board is a shitting street.. Do you not understand /vg/ is itself a containment board

>>314847046

>>314847031

>>314847237
Well that Anon is a brain tard tranny that relies on wishful thinking then because yeah that shit wont ever happen, this is /vg/ bitch nigga hooraa

>>314847657
It won't ever change because natural selection has provided us with super tyrone thread warlords who have slain 100 threads, wherever fun grows on 4chan, they show up to ruin it.

>>314844995
Yeah, I've heard good things about it, I'd be willing to try it.

>>314846502
Jannies and mods managed to remove the the big tumor at least. Thread has been good for the past 50+ thread or so since the rangeban. We’ll slowly recover and people’s trust in the thread as a fun place to be in will be restored. Keep fighting the good fight one post at a time

>>314848578
The balanced approach is /vg/ is going to be like this, so people should need to not trust it and be prepared to deal with many threads like our primetime shitting hours, they should be able to bear through the bullshit like you I and the other anons did instead of being chased off from a couple of shitty episodes.

>>314849315
Agreed, and also to create and post about interesting on-topic stuff when possible.
Promoting good posts and replying to the good posts is paramount as well

>that feel when comfortably irrelevant for shitposting
Main meetups are cancer.

Raw Data is decent for a wave shooter

>>314843153
The initial avatar import with textures and the ugly standard shader is easy yes, but once you want to start changing the shaders or shader settings, afaik you have to pull out the dev tooltip and open up the inspector and find your avatar materials in the hierarchy and click through a whole bunch of menus. Sure, you have to do the same in vrchat/unity, but it's a lot easier there to have the documentation or a tutorial open in another window, whereas the only real way to learn neos is have somebody else there explaining it all to you, while fighting with the UI.

Again if I squint my mind I can kind of see the appeal of doing everything with your hands in VR and relying that weird sort of tribal oral knowledge transfer between people in game, but it's just so much friction compared to a unity SDK and the wealth of documentation out there.

I think if you want to get more people into neos you'll need to write better tutorials on how to do basic shit, and also however you're solving the performance issues on your end. Maybe you just know the non-shit maps? I dunno.

First, the school event scheduled for mid-late-November is being delayed. I've been busy and also lazy about working on the map for it. I'll shoot for sometime soon. Map making is hard.

In other news, I'll be taking photos for the /vrg/ avatar magazine project coming up. what the person writing that forgets is that we have generations that have grown up with internet on their pockets and high speed internet connection, the technology has gone far we have already had people divorce irl to live their lives online as anime etc
the only constant is change (and self), once you stop changing you start stagnating and sooner or later you will be a relic caught out of time watching the world as you know it degenerate into something you no longer recognize
the boomer mentality is "this is how everyone lived when i was growing up, this is the only life i know and to me anything different seems impossible due to how good the memories of that life were to me"
but as world history will show you things change, they keep changing all the time and they will only stop changing once they find a apex of plateu from which it will still change in some way that we cannot even comprehend anymore
hell for all we know the future of vr could lead to full dive and living in the past to milk that sweet sweet nostalgia of good old days where people go to some realistic medieval settings and live mmo style
also he fails to understand the true potential of endless growth of AI, with enough time and trial and error the AI can eventually become so vastly superior in almost every way that a "computer" can teach humanity better than any genius teacher made of organic matter

New experiences and more of it to see
To live through out past our expiration date and transcending time it self
I'd want that experience even if it is not my biological self anymore that contains the synapses and patterns of electricity that wizzes by my current biological brain

We are the pattern of electrical discharge housed by our neurons.
Change the container and we will still be there. It will still be us

to me it seems like the same old chasing the carrot of happiness, the same rat race of if it were just a little more like this or a little less like that it would be good of olden times
what keeps us alive is that we want those who are still naive to have a good experience because we used to enjoy it too, at some point that is no longer a motivation enough to keep you from chasing the carrot of happiness anymore when you understand that you're doing the same thing by living vicariously through their happiness
true joy is the cessation of that endless running after the setting sun and accepting stillness in peace, after that you just wait for the curtain to fall being what you are i believe a matrix like full dive would rob that experience from us by keeping us stimulated all the time so we never have time to stop and realize it's the same as it ever was chase of goodies
eternal life would be a nightmare and endless new experiences would just be the final anchor to lock us into the sisyphus nightmare

>>314870672
>nightmare and endless new experiences would just be the final anchor to lock us into the sisyphus nightmare
Ah but the thing here is you can end your eternal life by choice as well.
In this way you are given the choice at least. If your views dictates you to end your life at a certain age since you cannot fathom more joy coming from more time, then so be it. But at least won't you say it is infinitely better to get that choice?

lets amuse that situation, lets say you are placed in full dive and now you're endless, what kind of protocols and hoops would you have to jump through to actually end your life, even now people who are in agonizing pain are not allowed to end their life's with assisted suicide, what kind of safety protocols would there be and check boxes that you can actually kill yourself off from your eternal virtual life?
more time to more joy is naive, you're still doing the same thing just in different form, hell even wanting the cessation is wanting something different, only difference is that the cessation would be final so you would never have to be in the wheel again
would i deny that of others just because it doesn't appeal to me, no i would not if they truly believe that will make them happy then good for them, just keep in mind how hard assisted suicide is when you're unable to do it yourself before you lock yourself in the endless full dive overseen by whatever big corp TM made it

I hear similar complaints about Neos with performance as I did with Second Life years ago, and now you can run SL with ultra settings on a fuckin' toaster and its fine.

>>314874630
>everyone will be able to run it fine in 10 years!

>>314874784
How many hours do you have in Neos? It's a genuinely dreadful experience on any maps that have anything interesting on them. The first thing I do whenever I load into a world is delete all of the point lights because there's no baked lighting at all and everything being realtime means performance is going to be ass.
There's also no occlusion culling, because that's something you would need to bake in an outside program. I've seen a couple maps that have "manual" occlusion culling by placing triggers that disable objects you can't see, but almost no one is going to bother with that.
Neos just isn't suitable for anything other than a light collaborative environment in an empty world.

We've been playing this game for months every monday and we all came to the conclusion that it's not something worth staying on. Case closed, if you wanted to defend the game, you should have done so when we were hosting weekly meetups in there, but it's just furry diaper shit and low frames, I enjoyed being able to drag pictures from your PC to ingame tho

>>314875635

>>314875797

>>314875787
Dragging in pics and shit from your PC was probably the best feature Neos had togheter with being able to just drag in fun shit people had created.

>>314875541
I'm not bitching about design minutia
the game cannot have baked lighting or static geometry
literally the most crucial part of optimizing a video game and it's not supported because of everything being done in-headset
>>314875635
at least half of the playerbase is too stupid to even use the game, and they only play/shill because it's "the furry game", they've already sunk hundreds of dollars into the patreon, and someone else has set up an avatar for them

>>314875841
They run it we because there's nobody playing it. This isn't even a shit post or a dig, I enjoyed Neos for what it is but it runs like shit and is dead

Armour has HP, Structure has HP. Once you've knocked off the plating you can then do direct damage to that point to blow off legs/arms etc or the main body to deal damage. You can hit gaps in between the armour like joints or the actual cockpit canopy and do damage straight away but it takes better aiming otherwise you end up spreading a bunch of damage onto the structure and a bunch onto the armour without really doing anything noticeable.
