I'm yet to find an SMG the I really click with and I find some of the carbines to be a little too strong, like the German laser pointer or CZ, I think next time I play I'm going to give the shotguns and triple smoke grenades a whirl just for shits and giggles

Good times. Though the teleporting is an issue with dropped packets and unstable connections and has nothing to do with ping. Ping is just the delay between actions and result. Pavlov is extra retarded in that the magazine connecting to the gun is server side so if you have high ping you can't reload as fast as everyone else. You have to wait for the mag to connect before dropping it or you won't reload. Also for some reason there's desync with the player position and firing so if you run around a corner and start firing the bullets will fly out around the corner and then you'll step out. I don't believe that gets worse with ping but wouldn't be surprised.

It's more like Pavlov or Contractors become better at this point, than anything new actually being good. They have both improved a lot since launch. Onward devs just make their game worse. Hyperdash is good, but a simplistic game that can't really be the main one for /vrg/. Triple-A devs always try to reinvent the wheel.

Pavlov's upcoming update will add WWII things, including vehicles, that change it up from the Counter Strike game play and a number of long standing bugs and problems are finally being addressed. Maybe in a few years it will actually be 'good' and not just the least bad.

I think Counterstrike style gameplay is well suited to being adapted to VR. I think the two things mix well for two reasons:

1) The map layout and scale. Counterstrike maps are usually made with 2-3 hallways basically that players are funneled down. This imposes around 90 degrees of vigilance upon the player, enemies will be coming from only a limited number of angles and players will not be constantly turning while looking for targets. I think that imposing too much duty to be vigilant on the player tires them out by making them turn too much as well as stresses them out due to the heightened realism of VR.

2) Fatigue. This overlaps a bit with my first point, but player fatigue is further reduced by the round format of Counterstrike gives players a bit of time during gameplay to sit down, relax, and not be constantly playing the game.
I get tired a lot faster playing stuff like Contractors or VR minecraft that requires you to be active and looking around the whole time.

I think a slower paced game like Red Orchestra could work too. Their maps are generally very linear with two fronts, so you're not constantly getting flanked or attacked from behind. Even on desktop, it had specially visibility aids, like enlarged enemies and faction specific animations, to make long ranges more bearable. The same could be done in VR.

I give up. Feeling real stupid for thinking this one would be any different.

The new map they brought out with the operator/co-op update is actually dogshit, I really really hate it after learning fps level design theory. It has absolutely no flow and is cluttered but in a useless way. Spawn points at the end of prominent firelanes is a massive yikes. They really should use CoD's 3 lane or CS's overlapped figure of 8's when designing maps, they're tried and tested to work well

I tried out that new breaching coop vrfps briefly

15 euro so cheap price, but in the 30 mins or so that I played I encountered quite a lot of gamebreaking bugs which saddened me a little
the hub where you spawn in and choose your loadout and missions is pretty cool, you have to get into an ATV to embark on the mission
you can choose from like 5 different weapons and 2 pistols, which is quite disappointing, sound are kinda meh too
there's currently 2 maps that you can choose from (day/night) and they are procedurally generated, i've only played 2 or 3 missions but it's basically the same map and same background/theme just different house layouts which again is kinda disappointing
as for the bugs:

Currently the closest thing we have to CoD multiplayer in VR. Multiplayer is a little dead compared to Pavlov and Onward, but it's definitely worth a shot if neither of those are your thing.

Star Wars dogfighting with pretty good VR support. Not as hardcore as the old X-Wing/TIE Fighter games, but it's a blast in multiplayer. Can't interact with the cockpit using VR controls, but it does support HOTAS controls if you don't want to use a gamepad.

Fun arcadey boxing game. Has a pretty solid story mode where you fight your way through the plot of the movie, and a fun multiplayer mode if you can manage to find a match. /vrg/ does occasionally have fight nights if you want to throw down with some anons.

Hack and slash roguelite with a nice OST. Blocks, dodging, and combos use some rhythm game mechanics, but it's a lot of fun even if you don't like that kind of game.
>Ultrawings
Basically Pilotwings VR. It's a super laid back experience that has you flying around the islands and completing challenges to unlock new planes. Can interact with the cockpit using VR controls, so no need for a HOTAS or anything.

Hopefully someone else can expound on these a bit, but at least this is a start. We should probably add VTOL VR too if we're adding flight stuff, but I haven't played it yet.

He added native virtual desktop support in like a few days ago on a whim. It's really nice being able to just pull up the desktop for something quick without any other kind of overlay. I expect that'll eventually turn into the ability to screenshare as well. Very few others metaverse apps out there with that feature.
They also have the ability to share any binary file p2p in game now as well which is really cool for collaboration.

Kind of interesting that in some ways it's way far beyond and ahead of the competition yet somehow still behind in basic things. Anyone else here spending most time in VR just watching Youtube videos instead of playing games or VRChat?

Can't get enough of 180VR videos. It's crazy how immersive that shit is. Girls look like they are right in front of you, driving with a car through Tokyo makes you feel you are right there, etc. The content is growing too very fast.
I think there is a market that's going to boom sooner or later because there is nothing that comes close. Fuck "360 videos" useless shit. 3D in real cinema is shit too. But 180 VR is just impressive.

Thinking of buying a 180 VR camera to replace my DSLR for holiday pictures.

surprisingly good. I have the Quest 2 which has a good resolution that helps. Sure it's not as sharp as a big home theater screen but it gets near. But it feels much more like a real cinema.

Haven't tried Netflix yet but Prime works good. Youtube too (not for movies obviously). There is also bigscreen where you can rent movies but the selection there is very small. My next step is to buy a used bluray drive, some 3D blurays and copy them onto my Quest for best image quality and the 3D effects.

I tried a bunch of Youtube videos, some MMDs and a couple of VR 180 JAVs. As you say VR 180s blow 360s out of the water so hard I don't know why anyone bothers with them. Actually one of the things I searched for but couldn't find was any kind of VR 180 video that used 2d animation techniques. There were a fair few 3d animations but I wanted to see whether 2d animation could be made to feel in any way 3d, even if only used on top of real footage.

I have poor vision in one eye so it wasn't a flawless experience on anything I tried, even with a lot of settings tweaks I couldn't get the 3d effect to feel consistently comfortable like being a VR game does. It was very immersive when it did work but I don't see it replacing the easy of viewing flat videos.

YoutubeVR on PC, for 360 or 180 videos, is completely non functional. As Youtube uses a different format for its VR videos than the norm DeoVR doesn't work with them either.

I recently watched the trailer of "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water". It's on bigscreen now. The part in the beginning of the trailer with the 2D look in 3D is probably what you mean. It works pretty good! But I haven't found anything similar yet.. especially talking about anime.

Usually they use a 180 stereoscopic cam to shoot those videos. In 2D animation it may be more complex to produce but I hope there is more to come.

By Oculus devices, do you mean the Rift S? That's what I'm using and I haven't been able to get it to work at all. YoutubeVR has earned its mostly negative rating on Steam for a reason.
