Yes you want the motors off when you're not using them to reduce wear, but also be aware that most dying electronics fail suddenly when they're power cycled. That's how my first 2.0 lighthouse died after months of working perfectly. If you rarely use VR I'd leave power saver on, if you're constantly in VR I'd just leave the lighthouses running.

That's arguable. Where you could knock Alyx for being relatively stripped back, it only does so to serve the story and comfort. I believe that you can successfully simulate more mechanics and body awareness than Alyx, it's just that Boneworks does it poorly and it's frustratingly cumbersome. The way your body has momentum and your legs have delayed movement, the way that weapons and objects sway and have a bouncy rigidity to them while in your hands. Even Pavlov has more satistyfing and realistic weapon handling and shooting mechanics.

There is a sense that they working on building this complex engine with a lot of movement and interaction mechanics and then just scrambled to make a game around it. Boneworks has better gunplay than Half Life on paper because there's so much more guns and having a gun on your physical body feels so much better than how it was handled in HL:A but like... the map design and the encounter design is just real bad. It creates a fake bone at that point off the end of the bone. Unity only sees the beginning point of the bone and the direction it's facing. The length of the bone in blender is not transferred to unity so when it is trying to calculate physics on it, it's a one dimensional point. It has a length only if there is another bone child where it will draw a line between the two or an end length which gives it gives it a second point whatever distance and direction away you set. If you have a single bone (example: on a penis), you can add end length to make the dynamics actually work.

Is VRAM on the 3080 gonna be an issue for higher resolution headsets like the Reverb or Pimax? I saw some benchmarks on youtube for the 3090 using over 10GB of VRAM, but I know allocated isn't used so I can't tell if the 3080 is gonna crash into VRAM limits as headsets get higher and higher res till we perfect foveated rendering. Not sure which headset I wanna get to upgrade from my ancient OG Vive and super high resolution sounds good after dealing with this screen door effect, but I don't want to fuck myself because Nvidia gimped the memory on its cards.

I joined VRChat in late August of 2020. About a month in I was fairly familiar with the game and joined in on a friend who was in the Great Pug. I was about half a bottle of vodka down at this point and both of us for some reason ended up in the stairway near the top floor caressing this wall. This woman came down the stairs and saw us and asked what we were doing. Can’t remember what I said but I asked if she would like to join us and she accepted. The rest is history. We all had an absolute blast that night and it was easily the best night I’d had in a long time given the current pandemic. We all added each other on Discord and boom a friendship group was born. I’m not gonna go into too much detail but it was the best 2 months I’ve had in a very long time. We’d all hangout on VR, watch movies together and play all sorts of games together every day for 2 months without fail. That woman was like a sister to me and I love her as if she was my sister. Eventually some members of the group became less active because of work related commitments and such, but they’d still be there from time to time. It was mostly just me and her as a result. She had mental health issues of her own and this reality was taking its toll on her, as while she realised that obviously nobody was abandoning anyone, her head would tell her otherwise. This culminated eventually in her making an attempt on her life in December.

Thankfully she failed and was in hospital for a few days. Her profile was blanked out for a few days prior and I felt guilty as fuck for not checking in. It took its toll on me and unfortunately ever since the group went south I’ve fell back into those old ways.

I’ve been meaning to get back into VRChat again and start afresh, but everyday I tell myself that I’ll go back in I never do. I think part of it is to do with how difficult it’d be going back in and dealing with the fact that the group I thought would be friends for life is gone... and the person I considered like a sister to me is gone and having to start all over again.

It's something I never really noticed before since we're spoiled in a way that this group is all in VR. When I went to a pub instance randomly the other day most were desktopping and it was really strange. I noticed they have no implicit understanding of the space they occupy so where I'm used to others looking around and being aware of others enough to make room if need be desktoppers will run in front of you and block you out with their oversized avatars and think nothing of it. With VR users there's this general understanding that this is a pretty rude thing to do and I know I'm at least always trying to mind that I'm not in any ones space. Then there's the whole feeling I get with them where it doesn't feel like I'm interacting with another person but more that I'm being recorded and watched like a zoo animal. It doesn't feel like they're "there" with you at all so general interaction isn't enjoyable.
I understand allowing them was part of vrchat's success since they could get the streamer kiddie audience but honestly wish we had a VR only space. I can't think of a single positive interaction I had with someone who didn't have VR.

I just got my quest 2 and man this shit really isn't a meme. Having a blast with it so far. I was so excited when I first got it and feel like I wasted 30 bucks buying beat saber in the oculus store instead of on steam since virtual desktop works so well, but nothing I can do. My PC isn't a beast but it works well enough, and I really like just being able to be on my pc and use the headset basically anywhere in my house that I want.
