This is...exceedingly more difficult than I expected. There are so many issues with the weight painting that I can't even begin to describe it. If I move the legs it completely clips the front of the undies all over the place and the back does not clip enough so it doesn't stick to the buttock. On top of all that the bottom half "sticks" to the thighs so it looks fucking dumb when I move the legs to the left or right.

Normally I just cheat with normal clothes by just deleting all the vertexes under the clothes because you won't be seeing them anyway and this removes any issues with clipping, but because undies are small you can't really delete things below it without just creating gaps in the mesh or exposing empty mesh space when you move the legs.

How on earth do I achieve this? Is there any quick cheat way to just add these undies properly weight painted to the model? I'm not seeing how I can do it manually like this

sculpt them so they are pretty close, subdivide them until they are roughly the same or more faces, and then use a shrink wrap modifier.
alternatively make your own by using bisect tool to add lines where you need, select the faces in edit , shift-d to duplicate, p to paste by selection. and you will have a exact copy of those verts with the same weight. then use a solidify modifier to make them offset a little + give them depth. and then make a new material with some simple shimapan stripes etc.

They openly stated that it was an A/B test for adoption/profitability, I'll try to find the article for you.
The original design for rift s also had much higher specs, but was replaced last minute with the lenovo outsourced thing we have today.
This also caused on of the cofounders that was deeply involved with the rift to abandon ship.


And yes don't kid yourself the data collection would've happened regardless of which concept won out at the end. Even if the a/b test part was bullshit, looking at the numbers how quest 2 performs and the lack of support for rift s makes it clear we won't be seeing any pcvr headsets from facebook in the near future.

This is such a general problem I feel like there should be an it just werks solution to it honestly. Like surely someone must have thought of writing some software or script that lets you set some properties on the material of the clothing and then have it physically simulate the cloth to get it fit onto the character model, and generate a new optimized mesh with geometry perfectly matching the character, based on the simulation. I played a lot of Virt-A-Mate and in there, ~80% of the custom content, including really bad content, is behind paywalls because everyone seems to think that they're the next big content maker.

If they just provided for a way to give mapmakers money but not lock most users out, it'd be a vastly superior system. People will want to reward good creators by subscribing even if the subscriber won't be the only one gaining something, because that way everyone profits.
