Is there a way to have the animation "reverse" itself when I let go of the gesture that toggles the animation to happen?

Example: When I do the "point" gesture it moves a hat on my head upwards and it floats. However when I let go of the point gesture it immediately resets the hat back on top of my head (because the gesture went from frame 100 to 0, the neutral position.

Hey everyone, I've already asked this question on /v/ yesterday, but nobody answered me so I am trying it here.

As you might know, Half Life: Alyx is part of this years summer sale and since this game is alledgedly very good, I've been contemplating about buying it. However, everytime I see this game recommended people add to it that "you should try this game last" because "it will ruin the other vr games for you".

How true is this? It sounds ike a silly thing to worry about to me. The only instance were a game came close to ruining other games to me was Dark Souls 1. While it is true that I've entered a bit of a depressive mood after finishing the game, I would disagree if somebody were to say that this is a bad thing. My enjoyment of other games definitely decreased for a time, but Dark Souls itself was so good that I would not want to miss out on such a great experience.

In my experience all the good stuff about HL:A was fluff that would make it a good game, but not a good VR game.
As far as VR implementation and mechanics go, the game is kinda behind the curve. I actually started appreciated old shit like Arizona Sunshine for pulling less punches than HLA, which felt like a Vive launch title. It plays great on Wands too.

Oh well I noticed it has a free demo so i've given that a quick whirl now.
It runs well, the youtube integration worked fine, the emulated spatial audio was cool fuck knows how that works. The built in file browser was straightforward but suitable with all the sorting and filtering you'd expect.
Some sort of codec issue with playing back some videos I'd recorded of gameplay, not sure what's causing that but videos from other sources seemed to be working fine, including 4k porno playback was flawless.

It brought a smile to my face when I browsed to my 4chan meme webms folder and let it play through them, good shit lad.

Has this demo convinced me that the full version is worth twenty squiddly diddlies? No, not really, but it's definitely impressively featured.

I'll fuck around some more with the demo version, see what it's like using it in bed with my airlink'd quest, maybe that'll be good enough to deserve the greens.

Have a question about blender, this is still WIP but the model I use never had toe bones, just ends at the feet, so I'm manually adding toe bones and weight painting them to each toe. The bones are easy enough to add and parent...but I could really use some advice on how to weight paint these.

The problem being that the toes are so close together (like in the pic) that it's making it really difficult to weight paint each individually to their appropriate bone, because the other toe is right next to it and will accidentally get weight painted as well. I'm sure there's some option/toggle or something that can make this more manageable because right now it's impossible to weight paint them individually without also accidentally painting the toe next to it and fucking it up

"Far Beyond: A space odyssey VR" is a really neat game but is totally hampered by an awful translation, the first five minutes into the tutorial most players are going to be put off by the extremely slow and monotonous talking of the tutorial drone that is telling you how to play and the fact that it keeps mixing up words and shit, it gets especially confusing when it comes to how the game describes the control panel which makes up a large amount of the game's central content. Anyone got an oculus and willing to help me out with something?

I'm having trouble with the "Bring your sofa into VR" feature, it used to work fine but now my sofa has been deleted and when I try to set a new sofa boundary I am unable to do so, it is acting like i'm always holding down the left controller trigger, so it never lets me stop drawing the square. At first I assumed it was a problem with my controller but I removed the battery and the issue persists, it still thinks I am holding down the trigger. This behaviour isn't displayed anywhere else and I can draw normal guardian boundaries as usual.

Does anyone have experience with this feature and knows of a potential fix?

Question regarding animations. I have this animation that moves an object on my avatar from one side to the other at a relatively normal/medium speed.

However when I bind this animation to one of my gestures (I have it on finger point) the animation plays instantly, as in the object just automatically travels to the end of the animation rather than playing at the speed it does in the actual animation. What is causing that? I'm sure it has to do with settings in the animation controller? as of right now just have it set up as standard from entry -> point using the GestureRight (as it's on my right hand) layer. What setting could be causing it to not play correctly?

keep in mind that everyone is appealing in VRC. if you want someone to notice you and hit you up with talk, you can't just be "someone who has no dislikable traits", you need to be noticeable to be noticed. Not easy to be noticeable when everyone is cute, has cute body language, when people strike you up with interesting topics, or when their avatars have eye-catching quirks that also work as conversation starters.

1. use a popular avatar you like from the first 2-3 pages on booth (sorted by "most popular") with slight edits so that it's not just the original avatar, even simple texture recoloring would be fine, if you change the outfit to something cute and uncommon even better but not required

popular avatar = increase the pool size of other people that also like it
modifications = make yourself unique and stand out, not just be another clone

2. stay quiet, don't talk unless talked to, act shy when replying but don't act like an idiot, give clear replies and use your brain, if you don't know something say you don't know, if you do know don't be afraid to share your two cents, contrary to popular belief acting retarded is not cute it just makes people disrespect you and treat you like a clown

3. target one specific person at a time, people who try to do everything at once never get any success. pick a person that you want to talk to you and lewd you and mentally make them your target

4. subtly imitate your target's behavior without being obnoxious about it. for example if they tilt their head to the side, tilt your head to the same side too. make sure it's subtle because if you make it too obvious it'll just be cringe

5. never talk about yourself unless asked. each time you do it you get a negative penalty and they stop caring about you. ideally you want them to know as little as possible about you, so that they can autocomplete all the missing information with their own fantasy of who they want you to be. it's okay to reveal small unimportant details so that you don't come off as secretive but basically don't talk about yourself unless asked directly, or if they already said they like something and you happen to be that thing or like that thing too

6. let them talk about themselves and nod or smile (don't have to smile irl, just use avatar gestures) and say stuff like "yeah" "that's nice" "good job" every now and then. if they say stuff that's way too retarded maybe they're testing you, so use your brain and don't say "that's nice" if they tell you their grandma died. but for the most part act as if their life is interesting to you (it doesn't need to be)

7. set a time limit. sometimes a person just won't talk to you or lewd you no matter how good you are and it's not your fault. spend a maximum of one week per target. if it didn't work within that time frame, find a new target.

this strategy works 99% of the time. the only way you can fuck this up is if you have a really annoying voice or bad mic quality, or if you're never online and people can't hang out with you. so make sure your mic sounds fine and that you don't speak too loud or too quiet, and log on vrchat at least once per day

Common beginner mistakes:

- talking about yourself when no one asked. tips to avoid mistake: just don't.

- when someone else talks about themselves, accidentally make it obvious that the story was boring to you and that you don't care. tips to avoid the mistake: try to memorize random details from the story, and then ask to clarify or elaborate about those details later. then the other person will think their story is interesting for you and that you care about them

- following a person around unconditionally (i.e. tryharding too much). tips to avoid the mistake: only subtly imitate a person, but still give attention to other people in the instance, hang out with the group, etc. in your head, you know who your target is, but make sure they don't know. that way they'll have subconscious pressure to make a move on you before you pick someone else
