Utilizing redirected walking, two persons must sync their motions to keep each of their foot inside the cylinder. The cylinder can only move if each other's foot are inside the cylinder. This acts as the strap.

In theory, 100% no issues on software level, in practice vive puck receivers are famous for sperging out from various kinds of signal interference, you can't keep receivers close to each other under certain angles etc. There is a non-zero chance that tundra signal would interfere with vive tracker signal, causing wonky tracking and such.

In most cases of seeing someone, you don't know what they've been up to all day in VR and IRL. (And if you did, it'd be kinda creepy.) Some people do physical work - standing, lifting and moving things for 8 hours, and then just want to go home and be comfortable.
Note that I'm never playing while sitting or laying down, but I can see why someone might be.

How do you make a quest crasher? Or does anyone have some available?

So I've gotten into the swing of things and im looking to run full body tracking. Only problem is, I dont exactly have money for htc trackers (how original i know.) I've been using OwO tracker for my hips so far. I've tried Apriltag but that was a massive waste of time. I've got a friend who is willing to give over three damaged nintendo joycons. I've heard that they can be used for full body from some friends but everywhere I look on the internet is inconclusive on that. So, is it true that I can get them to work as trackers or no? If not, I have a couple options:

1. Kinect, and I'd need t spend $60 for dogshit tracking
2. Tinker with playstation eye for a few days and get that working
3. Pray that an Ebay listing is legit and hope Ruskies dont steal my card info again
4. Find a bunch of old phones and toy with them for a few days
5. Sit on my ass and wait for Stonx or Slimevr, aka two never evers.

I am really really really looking forward to get a valve index and would like to know your thoughts, it would be my very first vr headset (If we forget the chink phone vr adaptor googles).

I've read there are some issues with the included cables; like them being flimsy or the headset not working with 3rd party cables for some reason. Are these true? It would be a shame for a 1k buck device.

Also, are there rumors for any updates or new valve vr models in the making? I wouldn't like to buy one just for a new better model to be launched after a few months, I'd rather wait if that is the case.

The only thing is that if you're not sure VR is for you; toe dipping is a lot cheaper with the cuckbook quest 2. You can play PC VR on it just fine, but you are cucked into facebook land. If you're reasonably confident VR is for you, the index is great.

There's no tried and true methods of reducing wear but generally anything you can do to reduce strain on the cable is golden. IE; don't twist it up, add some kind of strain-relief or elastication on the back instead of the clip so when you stand on it or it tugs on something the cable is not bent too much.. etc.
Plus don't use the breakaway provided, that's another source of failure.

The cables are a custom mix of usb3, power, and display port. I don't know if they're strictly proprietary since there is/was one third party cable maker, but you don't get the economies of scale for manufacturing. It's a shame the VR link standard died, or we would have cheap USB C replacements instead.

You can baby your cable a little bit, but I think it's a better strategy to go hard the first year and get as many RMAs as you can (cable, controllers, and headset).

Index is 2 year old hardware now, so maybe valve will do a refresh this winter, but they might also be fucked by supply chain issues, plus general valve time issues. Back before the index was announced I was really pessimistic on the rumors of them releasing their own headset at all though, so they might surprise us.
