VRChat also has a lot of game/gimmick worlds as well as just cool worlds to explore, as well as activities like dancing (see all the pypy posts), not just sitting around and chatting. The fact that you can get people to try new vrchat-based games with just a portal drop instead of having to convince them to buy/download something else, then try to coordinate a lobby is a big sticking point as well.

In that way, vrchat is doing what SteamVR home was supposed to, but practically better. While it's definitely not true for everyone with thousands of hours in vrchat, I posit there are a fair amount of people for which "vrchat time" is essentially just "steamvr time"; they're just playing various games in vrchat worlds, instead of playing various standalone VR games.

To add to this, I'm another anon who was probably the major pavlov organizer for like a year and a half and the lack of new content absolutely killed it. The people I started playing the game with became absolute masters at it, played very regularly, and then got bored and quit when nothing changed.
Any new maps people came up with were not as good as the basic CS maps, and what few maps and game modes Dave released all fell flat.

There was also a great divide in the community between people who wanted to play sweaty CS style games and people who just wanted to fuck around. The people who wanted to fuck around resented the sweaty people for being too good (and it was a problem, the best players would headshot you as soon as you saw them) and the sweaty players resented being bored trying to play on meme maps with everyone. As a result, everyone lost interest in playing.

The big person to blame at the end of the day is Dave, though. The pavlov you'd play today is basically the same game we were playing in 2018. People got bored.

I ask around the old pavlov circles each time a new VRFPS comes out and the response is mostly lack of enthusiasm. One of the caveats there is that the last few "big" VRFPS releases have been 40-50 dollar games with obvious issues with the multiplayer and most people don't want to shell out that kind of money for a game that's obviously going to have issues.

What people ARE hungry for is a multiplayer game using Alyx's engine. If Valve did something I think people would be excited to try it. People in the old vrfps circles express big interest every time the rumors about Left 4 Dead VR make the rounds.

Dinner Circle Part 6 and is finally back for this month on Saturday the 17th at 7pm EST. This time the special is instant ramen. The idea is to join the world and make it at the same time since all you need is a kettle and a bowl and 5 minutes. You can add extra ingredients if you want, such as soft/hard boiled eggs, green onion, sesame seed ect. Be careful handling boiling water with the headset on. FWIW we collectively had thousands of hours of fun in Pavlov. It's still a fine game. It's just harder to find players who haven't been burned out of it already, vs in 2018 when even the oldest of oldfags only had a few hundred hours in VR overall, and were new to Pavlov, the janky $5 CS VR clone.

I would encourage you and anyone who isn't burnt out to try hosting more games in the thread though. It's easier than you probably think. The most important part is just choosing a time and shilling it sufficiently in advance.

WHAT: Using advanced vrchat video player technology, we're going to screen all ~36 episode 1s of the Summer 2021 season, 6 at a time, in glorious cacophony. After we catch them all, we have a rousing debate to decide which shows are worth our continued attention.

The real problem is that the updates have been variety without depth and the entire feel of the game is shifting towards being an actual CS clone, sacrificing the things that make pavlov a unique game to achieve it. He brought on a tonne of mustard league shitters onto his team who are 90% russian skiddies with six billion hours in silver rank CS and hate anything non-meta. front is my usual go-to. it's reliable (for my base station setup) and out of the way. problems are sitting down with the knees up (blocks tracker) and it stops you lying down on the stomach.

side is nice, but i hate bumping my forearm against it.

back is most useful for certain lewd positions, and laying on the stomach. if you're corded, sometimes your cord will hit the tracker and be a little fidgety though.

another very good option for certain things is at the crest of the hip bone. excellent position for emphasizing hip motion. really lets you dance expressively.

Sweaty vs casual is mostly a problem of player counts. If only 50 people own pavlov in total, and you're split 25:25 between sweat and casual, you only need a few people to get bored for it to stop working.

Can someone explain write defaults for avatars 3.0 to me? Apparently I'm supposed to turn it off for every animation but then it breaks all my 3.0 features. I can kind of fix it by making a new constantly running animations to set all my toggles and everything I can change to default state when it's not in use, but then I have a perma looping animation of like 150 properties? to all the people in this thread who question themselves how many friends they actually met in vrc, do the following mental exercise:

step 1:

suppose that for whatever reason you are forced to make a new account in vrchat, and you're only allowed to add 10 people from your current friends list to that new account's friends list, and everyone else who was friended on your old account will have you blocked and you can never contact them again (not on discord either etc)

it doesn't need to make sense. just assume that for whatever reason you're stuck in this scenario

go over your friends list on the vrchat website and take your time to pick those 10 people

DO NOT READ STEP 2 UNTIL YOU COMPLETED STEP 1

step 2:

do the same thing, but now with 100 people instead of 10, but you're allowed to choose less than 100, and for each person less under 100 you get 50 bucks. so for example if you choose to only keep 20 friends, you get 80x50 = $4000 deposited to your account (but remember, all the people you left out, you can never talk to them ever again)

congratulations. you now know how many actual friends you made, and how many people on your list are just acquaintances which are actually worth close to nothing for you

The devs needed to reach out to some of the larger VR youtubers or something. When you search for Vox Machinae most of the top Youtube videos are over 2 years old, they missed a good opportunity to do this when they added the co-op mode.
/vrg/ had some pretty big games earlier in the year. There was some organized shilling at new year that got a lot of people to pick it up.

Now the game has the problem where the few players they do check it out won't stay when they realize that multiplayer is dead and co-op is barebones. Proper structured content like a campaign or horde mode would be welcome but the already slow development doesn't seem to be revisiting co-op again.

Gaben pretty much addressed this point in an interview on the Steam deck, you are right anon. He said it doesn't matter if they make money on the Steam deck and weren't thinking of it in terms of "We need to sell X Steam Deck games to break even", he basically acknowledged that Steam = PC Gaming and anything they can do to improve the health of PC gaming will benefit them. If this product ends up being a hit, it could make it easier for some people to play PC games, and less easy for console manufacturers to make a handheld (or even full size console, since this thing with a dock is basically comparable to a PS5)
