I'm not trying to say it in a bad way but this community has probably the most reddit tier banter and humour compared to /slg/ and /xivg/. I hopped in a few of the discords just to see what I was dealing with and saw the most unfunny shit being posted. Pretty much your identity is attached to everything you do including your VRchat name. My discord and VRchat names were different but was surprised when everyone used the same names. Why would you want to associate your VRchat account with your discord? I also don't understand how anons can sit and listen to some of the most boring and unfunny individuals drone on about their IRL social lives for ten minutes without being bored. It honestly felt like being at a thanksgiving dinner and listening to your relatives talk about the most mundane shit. Another problem is only the "popular" vrgers drop portals that people go through so meetups trnd to be the same five maps, and if I drop one only a few people go in, once we're in the world no one else follows and eventually those people go back to the more popular instance.

Mahjong is a fun game but the people forcing the mahjoom meme has also left a bitter taste in my mouth. I don't drink alcohol or do drugs and it's literally just watching frat bros getting drunk whilst hitting on each other or transvestites. What also sucks is that I hate watching anime which is also something that people constantly do. I also don't want to watch movies in VR as I would rather just watch them myself. I don't like hearing people say unfunny memes and quipping throughout the movie. I guess all there is to do now is just lab exploration or visit the pug. I would say the worst thing is that since most of vrg are normies I can't really say they're bad people, as if I single out an individual I would most likely get shit on. Also the anti groups or sub groups of vrg also have their share of obnoxious leaders which turn me off the game. It's a shame that /vg/ exists as honestly it's ruined it

I really don't know about VRAM usage in games. Cucked myself with a 6900xt, and my performance isn't that good. Technically it's using more than 10GB, but the performance is still not that satisfying. AMD cards have slower bus speed as well. That and with other issues AMD cards have, I'm pretty sure a 3080 would be better. A 6900xt might be better, but a 6800xt shouldn't be better at almost anything compared to a 3080.

I'm new to /vrg/ and I'm having some trouble getting used to some things.

I just tried gearVR mod on VivePro, why the fuck are all the VR HMD designers using shitty fresnel lenses in their products?
The weight reduction is minuscule if the lenses are not huge, as for cost they are pinching pennies on a high end product what gives?

Well first of all the lenses on the old Vives are the worst of the fresnel lenses used in a headset, so it's tougher to compare that again a good aspheric, and secondly, Valve/HTC prioritized less pupil swim and distortion that increases the likelihood of sim sickness. You don't notice it in the Gear VR lenses because you happen to be insensitive to these kinds of lens properties.

I never had problems with the Index until I tried a custom face gasket and found moving a few mm closer to the lenses made it almost impossible to see anything. Using the slightly thicker pad solved the problem, so I think at least some of those complaining are slightly too close to the lenses.

This is what I did. It looks good but mostly because the original outfit looked good. Although I did sculpt it to fit so perfectly it looks like it always looked like that.
Honestly doing it again I'd probably add some more 'purposeful scuff' - The kind of scuff you see on real cosplays. Like some sewing lines, the material being uneven, that kind of thing.

Funnily enough I am very sensitive to motion sickness and gearVR lenses had no impact, either because I am used to VR by now or because pupil swim in particular has no effect on me.

When I got the Vive1 i got pretty motion sick when playing games with artificial locomotion, over time I built up a solid tolerance and knew what to avoid mostly fast strafing sideways and consistent artificial rotation, I can handle snap turns.
Hell I used to hate going on fishing trips, the first one I went to I threw up, after getting into VR for a few years then going on my second deep sea fishing trip well well prepared I lasted several hours at sea and only got nauseous on my the way back to shore but didn't throw up the entire trip, not sure if VR helped there as well they might be different.
I've seen two kinds of people in VR, the ones that got the knee jerk reaction when moving, and others that weren't phased in the least by artificial movement. Both can get motion sick, the latter more so because they treat the game like a 2D monitor and don't care about artificial rotation until it gets the better of them 30~60 minutes later by the time you feel queezy it is already too late.

I got the lenses off ebay (VRinnovations) which are already treated so I only need to pop them into the HMD without worrying about messing with the distortion profile in software (if you salvage from a gearVR HMD you would need to do that).
When removing the original Vive pro fresnel lenses the first time they are sealed pretty tight (there is no glue) and need to be riggled gently for a while until the airtight seal loosens after that they are very easy to replace. You'd have to be careful not to let your hand slip otherwise you'd scratch the fresnel lenses (if you want to return it to its original form) the black plastic flap might get a little dented so it would be easy for the manufacture to tell you tampered with it, I would not advise doing it if you care about the warranty.
Also don't use a very small/thin flathead I found those easier to slip, use a normal sized one.

The same mod can be applied to the OG vive.
I absolutely love it on the vive Pro for DCS, I can read the text a lot more clearly (less distortion, bigger sweetspot) and for night levels the aspherical lenses are a huge improvement because you don't have the blatant god rays.

I have the pimax 8kX as well, and while those fresnels are better than the vive I still dislike the banding/distortion close to the edges of the lense sweetspot and FoV on the 8kX is fuck massive but it is LCD and requires far too much GPU/CPU to run 4k per eye native even on a 3090/5900x I have to compromise a lot.
The only low/no compromises HMD on the market I know of is the Varjo 3 but that is insanely expensive even compared to the 8kX and you need to pay subscription for software updates since it is targeted at enterprise.

VR mod works extremely well. They made a quick menu that feels very intuitive in VR. You press and hold a button on one hand it pops up a hunch of buttons you can drag your sphere into and it hotswaps to that.

I tried blender cloth sim last year, and the nice thing is being able to bake the normals from a high detail cloth down to a lower-poly mesh. I used the subdiv modifier here, so the simulated mesh isn't as high detail.

oh, and one other thing with cloth sim, you can animate the 'shrinking factor' under the 'Shape' dropdown in the cloth menu. I usually started it around 0.2 and animated it back to 0 over 100 frames or so, so the mesh starts out loose and gets tighter.

For more control under the 'Property Weights' section you can set a vertex group to the 'Shrinking Group' and paint on how much you want each individual vertex to shrink, e.g. pic related.

I got my 5k super when they had a deal for it at $550 so this deal is slightly worse; I had to communicate with their support at length and send back false items a good couple of times before I got all the items I ordered alongside a working strap.
I ended up not being able to use the kdmas earphones with my strap because the speaker screws stripped immediately, so I just use my Oculus CV1 earbuds now and they work perfectly.

It's the main convention day for Virtame! the EU instance should be open in an hour-ish (20:00 GMT)

Your event host for EU will be Miti


We've implemented a cool tag system that'll let you identify as a cosplayer/photographer/regular attendee (among other things) for the convention, I trust you'll make good use of it.
There are multiple spots for cool photo shoots in the map, dont hesitate to ask someone to take a pic or two for a unique con experience!
There is also a fast travel system to both the group photo area as well as the main exhibition hall immediately upon entering the main hall.

I hope you enjoy all the exhibits we have on display as well!

As a reminder of the schedule, after walking around the convention for a bit, there will be a group photo followed by a cosplay contest
