I know it feels crazy bad, but keep in mind that the amount of mistakes every driver inevitably makes during longer event is high enough to easily make up for this kind of fail through the event. If you'll fall out 3 times and lose 45 sec for resets + ram the barrier and lose 10s on start, you'll still be in front of guy who fell out 4 times and lost 60s. I'm not sure if alt+f4 disqualifies you from event or just allows you to start all over (in DR1 you were able to start from zero), but if it disqualifies you, consider just dealing with this kind of fails next time, it's really not something that sets you back all that much overall.

From new things, i guess you could look for Thrustmaster T150. Cheapest used thing that works is still Logitech Driving Force GT (900deg+FFB), cheapest great bundle remains g27/g29 (because, despite dated mechanism/FFB design, those things have really decent pedals and cheap/bundled h-shifter), and cheapest serious setup is Thrustmaster T300 in any bundle that doesn't contain crappy ass 2-pedal pedalboard.

DR2 also plays pretty alright on gamepad, i imagine it's not all that amazing to have gamepad in VR but you should definitely give it a shot.

Somebody let me try an OG Vive with the deluxe audio strap to play Beat Saber, The Brookhaven Experiment, that Star Wars demo with the lightsaber and the poor Harrision Ford impression, and Google Earth VR. I wanted to get one for VRChat for a while but I get motion sickness in desktop games sometimes so I was afraid to spend so much money on one before finding out whether I could handle using one. Turned out I had no issue with it, and as I hoped the slight disconnect from reality made it easier to talk haha so I bought one myself as soon as I could. The last GAME I played was Into The Radius. I have the same setup besides the fact I bought Index controllers when one of the wands broke. Facebook servers are offline right now and many parts of the software will seemingly fail to load. You can still use VD/Air Link however. But if you want to play local offline games, you should disconnect it from wifi. By having it connected to the internet, it believes it should be connecting to FB servers to load/sync shit, that's why it seems like the device depends on an internet connection, but that is not the case. Disconnecting the internet will let it assume that it should not be trying to communicate with FB servers, so things will load.

It could be possible for the future compute unit market, but currently since they're designing for head-mounted solutions, they want them to be as light and small form factor as possible, so complexities like modularity would probably not be a priority. Optimally we'd keep going with the backpack PC route that manufacturers were once trying out for a while. They can actually be surprisingly light, and unlike small compute units, actually give you the power of a midrange desktop PC.

Between the horrible censorship with RE4 and Facebook going down I really can't stomach the idea of upgrading to an Oculus in the future. I really hope that Valve picks up the slack and makes a new headset sooner rather than later.

Favorite headset by far, having tried just about all the major PCVR headsets outside of Oculus/Facebook ones and the oldest WMR, but I have used the G2. Actually took some getting used to being able to just look around with my eyes and not need to move my head at all. Great in sims for that feeling of going fast.

WIde FoV with that clarity has absolutely ruined my ability to use any other headset. Went back to the G2 briefly just to see and couldn't stand the low FoV. I don't think I could consider upgrading to anything below 130 degree horizontal FoV, probably once integrated eye tracking and varifocal lenses become a thing. Some people have issues with Pimax, but it was basically plug and play for me with Pimax Experience and none of my family or friends has needed more than a minute to get the IPD.

I used 200g of counterweight and an apache strap from that Studioform Creative guy, already had them lying around from a previous headset, so can't comment too much on the default comfort, but with those I'd say it's one of the more comfortable headsets I've used and I've no issues using it for a few hours, headsets like the G2 beat it but it's high tier, little below the top. Audio with the KDMAS is very good, slightly better than the Vive Pro and Vive DAS for me, but still behind the Index/G2. Don't even bother with the SMAS, it's trash and worst than the Q2 stock audio. KDMAS Has the advantage of being on ear if you prefer that, however. Distortions are borderline non-existent and I had to actively look around and do some testing to really notice them. They're technically present on large FoV, but it's maybe the outer most 10 degrees of my vision, which is basically nothing with 160 degree FoV.

If you're thinking about buying the 8k X, I advise holding off. Pimax is teasing a huge announcement this month, calling it the biggest event of their company's history, that they have something new which would make a great "grand prize" for a contest they delayed which previously awarded an 8k X as the top prize, while a few comments they're made very strongly sound like they're coming out with a new headset, possibly even with aspheric lenses because the COO said "You would be interested" to a guy who complained a lot about headsets lacking those kind of lenses. It could be marketing hype that's full of shit, but I'd at least wait to see what they announce this month.

3080 with 100% render resolution on Large FoV. Settings vary a lot from game to game, but usually medium to high settings. Some games, like Pavlov, Skyrim, and Alyx, I can just max out. Do have to spend some time tweaking settings per game. Fixed Foveated Rendering and the FSR hack with Reshade gives a bunch of extra performance for virtually no quality loss.

not a bad idea anon, i bought one once the 128gb dropped. 300$ for a 128gb standalone headset with 120hz wireless support is a great deal. I've been using it 95% of the time for wireless PCVR hybrid setup with my FBT and it works great. Major upgrade from my old vive and I sold my old vive controllers, link box, and HMD (was modded gearvr lens) for about the same price I paid for my quest 2. Kept my lighthouses for FBT. If your PC can push the quest 2 native res @ 120hz you will be very happy especially with the later updates they have done to airlink. I don't notice any compression at all compared to link cable.
