Lighthouses are the best thing about the Index. I don't even understand why anyone has an issue with them - once they're set up they require basically zero attention. They undeniably provide the best tracking with the only downside that they're static. Not to mention FBT.

The only real improvement I'd want for the Index 2.0 is a wireless option. Beyond that more resolution would be nice and any other stat increases. Really though a wireless option is all the Index is missing. I can't imagine thinking the base stations are a bigger issue than the cable.

It really isn't worth worrying to this degree about polys. As long as you're optimized on meshes and materials a few hundred polys is nothing. Culling shapekeys would be a lot more productive. If this is because you're at 71000 polys and are trying to make whatever reductions you can to be under the arbitrary 70k limit then stop and just be very poor.

there are no udon guides, sadly. the docs are literally nonexistent and basically the only help you'll get is old forum posts from like 2019 or early 2020.
my personal advice is to already know C#, and use UdonSharp to basically just make regular unity scripts. you can use certain method overrides like `Interact()` to make stuff interactable, or use the VRC-provided events like `OnPlayerTriggerEnter`.

There's no comprehensive udon guides but as the other anon said a lot of it can be done through knowing C# and normal Unity programming. Just be aware that Udon is SIGNIFICANTLY slower than normal C# scripting in Unity, somewhere between 10-100x is what I've heard.
UdonSharp will give you warnings if you're trying to do something Udon doesn't support. The VRC website, but more importantly the UdonSharp Github wiki, have explanations of VRC specific APIs.

Unfortunately a lot of knowledge of how to do Udon well is fragmented. Your best bet is to ask around and see who has experience with doing what you're interested in.
