I know that I can buy or print protective covers for the green part of the image on Index controllers but I haven't seen any way to protect the outer half-ring. Something that covers it completely would probably block the sensors so I was thinking about buying these small silicone/rubber bumpers and stick them all over the shell (red ciricles). Would this be a good idea or is there a better way? I don't have a habit of mashing my controllers against the wall but I want to have something just in case I have an accident.

seems like a decent idea. you can look at teardowns of the controller to see where the actual sensors are under the plastic, they're not that big. I don't know how much shock those little rubber bumpers would actually absorb up to the point that the entire ring snaps off, but in any case it wouldn't hurt.

i'm fairly sure procrastination is a common problem. you could also simply not have the energy to take on vidya, or not feel like it for some other reason, or maybe you're just not all that interested.

can't guarantee cause i have unironic diagnosed adhd, kek. had to spend my entire life on learning how to get shit done and it's still not easy sometimes. but whatever, one way or another, i feel like the solution to your problem is probably putting honest and serious effort into taking on activities you want to take. i know the idea of "putting effort into starting a game" sounds dumb, but this is how it is, it seems like the situation demands it

So guys. I'm the dude that kept being butthurt and complaining about my performance in AC (big maps like SRP and LAC specifically) and DR2 with a G2 and a 5800x/6900xt. For AC I had to run at 60hz, 80% SS, and AMD FSR on balanced and I'd still get some frame drops. For DR2 I ran 80% SS, medium settings, quality FSR, with frame drops. Now I'm bypassing Steam VR, and running OpenComposite (OpenXR) + the OpenXR toolkit. Both games at 100% SS, which makes them look way better, FSR for AC at ultra (in CM, which I don't know if it works if you use OpenXR, since that's where you turn FSR on when using opencomposite), no FSR for DR2, and settings at high. Both games run at 60 fps, while looking way better, and I haven't noticed frame drops yet. You lose the convenience of Steam VR features like fpsVR, the menu that lets you reset view, and some other things, but fuck that. This is literally a game changer. DR2 no longer looks like a piss stain. If I play with the settings I can probably run at 90hz too. I haven't tried recording gameplay yet, but it probably works somehow.

I think this should be in the OP. Like I can't believe how much of a performance goblin Steam VR is. You just need these two hoes below and it's super easy to install and switch back if you want to.

>Index or Vive
No, because they interface with SteamVR natively, but with a Quest 2, yes. The performance overhead and issues are caused by needing to run through compositors in order to match the SteamVR platform, as most headsets nowadays have their own software they use. Oculus is the most notable example of this as they had their own shit for a long time. To explain it in the most simple terms, even though this isn't quite accurate, think of it like emulating something, it's a drain on resources. The reverse applies if you're using SteamVR to run Oculus native games via Revive.

This is why OpenXR is becoming such a pushed thing because every headset can set itself as the openXR runtime and bypass SteamVR entirely, even if you're running the game via steam. It's not exactly Valve's fault here, just OpenVR being a much more proprietary standard where each company has far more of their own special mix of runtimes, more or less. It's why compatibility from some real old VR games can be a huge headache if not running on a Vive or Oculus HMD.

Performance actually CAN be better, because SteamVR is a buggy garbage. It is indeed also the driver for index, but I wouldn't be surprised if the driver is also mess. I don't think it is possible to bypass SteamVR on windows if you use index, but for linux there is Monado.
Someone really needs to test "OpenXR game through SteamVR" against "OpenXR game through Monado" and compare performance, just so we can see the absolute state of steamvr.

What Speed Cola does in VR is that it automatically ejects your magazine when you grab a new one from your pouch and auto racks the gun when you put the mag in. It totally changes the game for some weapons with how fast you can reload then.

Looks fun at fuck. Just a word of warning that trying to go beyond 4 people on most maps is begging for complete and utter chaos unless the map is open and built for it, like Lammy's. Most of them are too claustriphobic to easily play with many people at once.

It's fun chaos, but it's chaos.

Pistols are too good to allow them in a game mode with bolt actions being a focus. You can easily two tap heads and even miss a few shots with a pistol before you can shoot twice with a bolt action just because they're semiautomatic. Other anon's idea of shotguns would be neat though. Shottysnipes in pavlov.

It depends on the game and headset you are using I guess. The lower speed vram (GDDR6 vs. GDDR6X on the Nvidia cards) will bottleneck things if you supersample a lot. Wireless encoding can be worse too if you use Airlink on the Quest 2.

if only battery wasnt so shitty or if there was option to bypass battery so it would work just with usb cable without charging battery i could actually use quest 2 as monitor
considering i almost paid the same price for new monitor (270€ for Gigabyte M27Q) quest two is insane deal and with it being wireless, its just gets too fucking comfy when you can just go to your bad with it, i really dont get why so many people are ignoring the fact that you can do so much more with it then just playing stupid vr forever beta 'games'
and the best part, 0 eye fatigue because of depth, easy 10/10

unless you set up airlink or buy a cable to connect to a pc, you'll be severely limited in what you can do with the headset

you'll also be stuck in meta's ecosystem regardless, enjoy that eating more of your overhead alongside steamvr

inside-out tracking isn't great, when i was using a q2 my hands flying off into the distance at inopportune moments was commonplace
it's also a little more of a hassle to upgrade compared to a headset with base stations if you ever wanted to try different controllers or get trackers for full body tracking
those are the biggest things that immediately come to mind
Anonymous No.392255437
>>392255093
You have to sell your soul to Facebook and their walled garden, the controllers are tracked by the headset so it has blindspots, even wired PCVR games are compressed, the stock strap and faceplate are bad, the speakers and mic are bad. For $300 it's still a very good deal, however.

>>392262821

I want to add that the tracking with a Quest, when it comes to drawing or something in the air, is complete ass. And you don't have to drill base stations in, you can use tripod stands that are specifically designed for VR base stations. I use 2 of these tripods for my set-up, and they work fine.

Get a Quest, I guess, if you don't care too much about drawing in VR. The base station tracking will always be superior for drawing in VR, and just precision tracking in general. This is the one thing about the Quest that is seriously bad, and questies in VRChat tend to complain about it or bring up how much better my handwriting is. Then I sometimes explain to them why.

amd definetly has shit encodeing so airlink is only viable on nvidia gpus. Also your idea of "runs good" could be skewed by the fact that you have very low expectations being an amd user lol. hardware wise amd is 1:1 comparable to nvidia or maybe even better but their shitty windows drivers leaves a lot of performance headroom especially in vr. I do hope things change as some triple a studios will have to optimize with rdna2 in mind for their hybrid games on psvr2

Its a great headset with an even greater upcoming exclusive library. Its definitely a miss if you care at all about your privacy tho. There are some decent looking and well optimized standalone games That are very comparable to their pcvr ports. The headstrap seems to be the biggest catch for a lot of people so definitely spend a bit extra on a good third party headstrap and look into "FreeForAll" piracy or if you don't want to install some sketchy program just download games from a torrent site and sideload them.

To be fair Virtual Desktop encodes much better than Airlink as it uses XR2 features that Zucc didn't even bother to touch. Saying that Airlink has issues doesn't even matter when there isn't a reason to use it over Virtual Desktop in general.

Because the video is encoded on the PC end with XR2's decoding in mind, rather than Zuccs implementation which doesn't take full advantage of the hardware.

You might want to try updating both. The plugin is certainly not perfect. It has a memory leak if you launch OBS without VR running, but it is powerful. If I had made this webm now I would have at the very least recorded it square rather than going with 16:9. That and I would use VP9 now that 4chan supports it of course.

Literally just sell the 6900xt second hand for a bit less than msrp and buy a 3080 for vr. I really do think that amd can be super competitive with nvidia considering that they're newer to the high end gpu market and drivers can take a bit to marinate. Look at intels entry with the a380: performs far worse than a fucking 1050ti. The hardware is there but drivers are gonna take their sweet time. VR is the cutting edge so of course nvidia is gonna be leading for now. But then again, we'll have to see if amd makes any interesting developments with rdna3 in regards to VR. That and also the fact that there's gonna be a whole lot of vr development on the ps5 which is PACKING an rdna2 gpu.

They're not particularly complex or challenging and mostly re-use existing content but there are a few unique segments. Fucking this. Overall, my gripe with most VR games is that they feel cheap as fuck, like random pieces of gameplay stuck together and barely anything else.
Most of the time you just have an ugly as fuck painted on UI that ruins the immersion. Meanwhile this game is the definition of immersion and soul, just for this, i fucking love it.

Record the gameplay with framegraph visible on not completely terrible rendering resolution (lowering it wouldn't help much honestly, there are game programming issues).

when you're kayaking irl, you're actually holding the paddle kinda in front of your face, at least initially. it's not necessarily impossible for it to work well. single paddles, if they're in game, are even easier to track as initially you're holding top of the paddle pretty much right in front of your field of view

I really can't imagine how playing this would feel without taping your controllers to a stick. Or is that what you're supposed to do? Is there map variety and are they big by the way? I'm not interested in racing. I just want to chill and explore, since the graphix look cool. I'm hoping for multiplayer too. Like nobody kayaks alone anyways. Imagine just chilling and talking to a friend, which I don't have, while playing this.

From what I've seen so far, it's exactly as little as you probably think it is. Kayaks kayaking around, and some time trials (with visible ghosts of other players) as a separate mode.

>>392444350
Controls don't feel bad at all imo, if anything my biggest weird-out is how overly responsive this kayak can get sometimes. As for stick, you can row at ridiculous cheaty speeds by holding your hands very close and making small circular motions, but then row physics get wonky and overall it doesn't seem beneficial compared to pretending there is weight and water resistance and moving in slower, but more fluid motions. There is lots of maps and I've only tried one so far (had one quick session), but it didn't seem particularly large, so I wouldn't expect much.

You're absolutely right, this game needs coop bad. Two kayaks, one kayak, whatever.

well, i tried it. it's less frustrating in some ways than TTS but still really clunky. they basically just attached the pointer to the tip of your right controller and the right-click menu to the left, so you're one-handed, and then just mapped like 50% of the usual operations to various buttons. You can do the usual pinch-to-zoom gesture for world scale but for some stupid reason it doesn't apply until you release the grips, and it uses your playspace origin instead of head origin for turning so you can't predict where you'll end up. You can't hold a hand of cards, it's only on the special table holder.

Oh well, i didn't expect much. Continues to reinforce how much the UI polish matters in Demeo in my mind. Despite it not being a particularly deep dungeon crawler, it just feels so much better than trying to struggle through any game in TTS/P.

Project Cambria is likely to be out by then, Pimax is going to come out with two HMDs by then if you have a ludicrous(2000+) budget, with the 2400 one having literally fucking everything you could want, and we'll probably see some announcements by then or in early 2023. The Vive Pro 2+Controllers+Lighthouses is gonna run you around easily over 1000 bucks even if you grab some used at a discount. That's a high enough price range you should use the Q2 as a holdover for the next generation.

Is there really anything big to look forward to aside from PSVR2? I'm afraid Deckard Just Isn't gonna come around as soon as people would hope judging by how inconsistent valve has been with hardware releases. They just aren't good at thinking long term at all. They can't even plot down their own near future on a timeline since devs just pickup and drop projects constantly. The way I see it pcvr is gonna be stagnant for a good while with Sony and Meta just sweeping up exclusive ports of acclaimed triple A games with longer runtimes and generally higher quality (yes hitman 3 and a bunch of others didn't exactly pan out well but RE games proved that they can be the best vr "experiences" to be had)

I like this one. The techno music and tight controls really help. This game is well worth the $15 I paid for the CD key. I really like the roomscale dodging around and all the wacky combos you can get with building your guns, even constrained to one hand. That said the bosses are kind of lame and spongey compared to the much more frantic normal rooms.

The vive pro 2 has worse everything else but the screen is great. But if you have a misshapen head, if your IPD is a off, if you wear the headset slightly wrong you won't see it. It gets hotter than the index, the FOV is worse than the index, the sound and comfort are worse than the index, and you still have to buy index controllers anyway else have vive dildos. It also costs more, has HTC support, and that many pixels are actually hard to drive, you might end up subsampling down just to get playable framerates.
That said it does look good.

It hurts seeing something with so much potential squandered by lacking polish or variety. Feels like so many VR games are almost great but have a few key flaws which tank the experience

Tried Legendary Tales in hopes of a melee VR fix and it has a pretty nice base with the physics interactions and melee combat where's most games suck at it. But the complete lack of both enemy and environment variety is abysmal and tanks the experience. The Korean minmax grindfest means you have to pick one aspect to focus on or get fucked and if you wanna try something else make a whole new character and take an eternity to grind up again. Why's it so hard to find good melee combat focused games beyond B&S?

There's the 360 Kinect and the Xbox One kinect. The later works 'better' but requires an expensive adapter. It's supposedly possible to solder something to bypass but when I tried it exploded, so I don't know if I just got trolled.

It does only track your legs. Hip movement doesn't work at all. You have to face it exactly, so you can no longer turn in real life at all. It has a lot of performance overhead, especially if you use more than one to get a wider tracking range. The 'tracking' consists of: if you move your leg, your leg will move in a different way about a second later. It feels like Wii controls rather than VR tracking.

I'd say so. I use VRIK+Spellwheel+Skyvoice for doing dragon shouts so I rarely need to use actual menus. The customizable holster system the game has is really convenient, and honestly no other VR game sans maybe ITR has as nice of a holster system.

It'll (probably) be better this time because the PSVR2 is actually cutting edge hardware which is using industry standard inside out tracking and full roomscale. Compared to the disaster that was PSVR's motion controls and lacking any real support for room scale. So porting to PCVR should, in theory, be easier as it'll basically be already built for it mechanically.

I liked it quite a bit myself. It has a meaty amount of content too, especially as you will want to do all the routes via NG+. It's probably the best VR anime style game, especially as it is an actual game and not just a 3 hour 'experience' or whatever.

Anonymous No.392558916

If they're actually ported, no probably not and we'll be likely seeing some higher quality things vs the quest 2 port's we've been getting. PS5 is a ridiculously higher baseline than the Q2, especially once factoring foveated rendering. If they don't get ported though, then you're right, PCVR is gigafucked.

I'm hoping the rumors from a while back of Valve and Sony being in talks about VR and bringing Alyx to the PSVR 2 pan out. Because it'd probably mean that Alyx gets used as a bargaining chip to get Sony to let a few VR games they're funding onto Steam that'd otherwise be exclusives.

Also he claimed that it was supposed to be showcased at the June 2th state of play which didn't happen so I wouldn't make too big of a deal out of it. If it were to actually happen, I'd also expect more of a limited "VR mode" rather than an entire port but aside from cod Sony has definitely been pushing for a lot of that hybrid content whether it be re8, re4 remake or maybe even GTA down the line now that they have cracked down on that shitty modder(super maybe this one I wouldn't expect anything) Also I'm pretty sure ace combat 7 had a psvr1 mode but it really looked like shit so it's a matter of porting it over or maybe they'd just hold back on that dev time and fuse VR into the next installment instead

Unfortunately, trying to have crossplay between VR and flatscreen on an FPS, in a competitive environment, sounds like a recipe for disaster. Both sides would have some pretty ridiculous advantages in certain ways that would be hard to balance around.

VR players could do something like easily blind fire around a corner without any real risk or peek corners with their head alone, plus there's potential to reload far faster than preset game animations. On the flip side, flatscreen players would probably have a far easier time snap ADSing for accurate shots or making out fine details and distant views, or aiming things like grenades.

The differences could be kind of fun in something casual or when fighting AI, but in sweaty PVP matches that's asking for a headache.

It works like the transition between the home base and the map, but there's 6 transitions instead of one. There's no travel time between maps, and the enemies and loot respawns every few days instead. No more sleeping bag, but there's two places to sleep on each map.

I wouldn't say it's 'better' to have the map like that, but they've updated the game more since breaking it up which has overall been an improvement. They cited the computing power required to edit the old map as being an obstacle to development.

there are multiple smaller levels with entry/exit points, much like in STALKER games. There are also shortcuts between main base (quests, shop, your personal space to prepare for missions) and different locations, so travel is a bit less bothersome thanks to that. Give it a shot, i might not be the best person to ask because i actually disliked original ItR, but for me this game just went from zero to hundred in one good update

DD2 had solid leaks since 2020. It was on leaked Nvidia slides along with other unannounced games which every single one turned out to be real. So it wasn't that far fetched that Capcom was doing something for the anniversary.
All we have with Deckard is the patents and the fact that we know they've been working on improving SteamVR specificially for new wireless hardware that has to do with those patents. I honestly don't think you'll get an official announcement until late next year. They're still too focused on the Deck at the moment and wouldn't want to take any thunder away.

>Vail devs: dw guys, everyone is guarenteed to get a key sometime in July as long as you signed up on the steam page. Make sure to spread the word!! :)
>also Vail devs in the past few days: you'll get a key whenever, coming months, wedunno lmao just be patient. why are you so entitled?
Devs who do this to rapidly build up an audience and customer base need to be shot.
