You have to use workarounds like multiple sub particle systems or something like that. You can't just have a single performant particle system that you get to push a particle out on game object enable. I think the way Unity works is that it doesn't refresh particle systems by default, so after you enable the game object and the particle fires, and the loop reaches the end, it'll just stay ended even if you disable and reenable the game object. I think most semi-auto guns are using a multiple particle systems to get around this but don't remember the details.

HOWEVER, since you are doing an effect that depends on collision, this is easier. Create a particle system that has an invisible particle or particles that covers the span of your sword. Make it locked to the relative position of your sword with 0 velocity. Put your desired particle effect as a child of that. Then make it so that the invisible particle colliding with something spawns the sub particle system. These are all settings within the particle system just look for them or Google.

There aren't any subemitters but there are two particle systems; one a child of the other. I could rearrange them to all be first children of the parent game object I'm toggling in the animation but even then I'm not sure why neither of them are firing when they're enabled. Try some comfort options like snap turning (or even holoport) I suggest you to always turn around yourself and don't use the thumbstick unless you really need to. You need to be standing for you to be able to turn physically, just don't play while seated. You should be standing anyways as its much more immersive. It will get better over time I promise.

As in, the particle system is not looping, it has a single burst, and that burst happens at the start of the particle system's life. That's what a true semi-automatic single particle system gun should be able to be, if you were truly able to refresh a particle system just by disabling and reenabling the game object. I have investigated several different avatars people have made and talked with other people over the years. This is just a problem with the default behavior of Unity and the fact that we cannot use scripts on avatars.

You're saying the particle systems do actually play the first time though right? They are probably set to not loop, and to only have a burst on startup. Since it is one burst per cycle, and it doesn't loop, then after the burst (loop 1) happens, the particle system stops. And then when you disable the game object, it doesn't actually refresh the particle system, so it stays on the state it was in, which was the end of loop 1. This is unlike sounds which do start over again when you reenable their game objects.
