If image in the headset looks blurry but fine on the monitor, increase your rendering resolution!
If you start to feel sick when playing, stop and have a rest. You'll get your VR legs eventually, just don't push it.

Phew... we're back.
What's your favorite gun to handle in VR and why? Doesn't have to be super specific, just the type of gun will do. Mine are definitely handguns because they feel so good to reload, it's like I'm really an action hero! Please attach pictures, I am not knowing of gun. Ironically, there's an IP range ban on posting pictures here...
I'm honestly surprised how many people are having issues with bonelabs (from jank to motion sickness to whatever). To me, it seems much more polished than BW at release; whilst some of the movement is different (which I think mainly has to do with none of the avatars being the omni-chad that is Ford) but otherwise it's honestly really good.
Perhaps a bit less soul though, I agree that the levels aren't as good, less of a HL feel. I look forward to the mods though.
>>402089105
Bolt action rifles. Something about the whole sliding the bolt around is super satisfying to me.
>>402089105
i like shotguns, because im bad at aiming.
Okay you faggots answer me:
PICO 4, yay or nay??? (I am headsetless peasant at the moment)
>>402092336
for PCVR or standalone?
>>402092336
No headphone port and no DP for PCVR kills the Pico 4 for me, but if none of that bothers you then it looks pretty good.
>>402097413
PCVR sir!
>>402098164
>No headphone port and no DP for PCVR kills the Pico 4 for me
exactly thats why Im asking. I dont know how bad the compression is, I only used wired pcvr.
Price is pretty good at ~430 and it has high resolution but without DP Im afraid its kinda meaningless. I wanna get back into VR masterrace asap dear sirs but I cant afford to waste money on stupid buys.
>>402092336
It's chinese so I would avoid it, but you do you.
I did it bonebros.

any manual action - pump action, bolt action, even lever action
the more i have to interact with the gun the better
by the wayquarantine is a lie doors conceal the void and they will never open
>>402089562
You can pick up the Ford avatarto the right of the Boneworks box door, on top of the concrete pillar.
There's a few other avatars hidden in the Hub too, but I haven't found any of them elsewhere.
>>402101221
I find these unreliable to use even after 5 years of having VR. The lack of any feedback makes it artificially difficult. I'm surprised haptics on this action aren't more common.
by the way Inoob poled all my way up the yellow chuteand wasgreeted by a ball squadonly to find out you canjust take the other way around at the battery door
here, have an old friend.
Thank god for big boi saving the day.
>>402098874
Hmm possibly worth while. In terms of optics and hardware it's clearly better than the Q2, no DP is a pain though so we need to see review for linked play. The Q2 compression is noticeable, but I'd still rate it above the Rift S in terms of image quality at max resolution (plus it has 120Hz) - so it's not a deal breaker but a poorly implementation would be. So wait for reviews I guess, I'm sure lots of PCVR players will be looking to buy one.
At a similar price point the only non-meta competitor would be a HP Reverb Gen 2, no?
>>402087971 (OP)
>original boneworks has nulls as flat shaded untextured humanoids with a layer of wireframe cage around them because they're blank holodeck actors
>bonelab makes them smooth shaded, single layered, and with a lazy voronoi texture that kinda looks like the wireframe if you squint. also there's ones that wear textured clothes now for some reason
it's not only quest support holding the game back, SL0 is a lazy company. half of the employee cards were TDA edits. Boneworks was a fluke
>>402098164
Looking to get my first headset, is wireless really that terrible, even with the dongle?
>>402102296
>textured clothes now for some reason
did you even read the clipboards
>>402102296
>Boneworks was a fluke
That wasn't good either. I appreciate their effort to try to make a 'Valve style' game, more so than Valve's own attempt with Alyx, but the execution was lazy and bad. They didn't even try to make a coherent story let alone have any flow to the campaign, it's just disjointed tech demos and tests stitched together. The physics were so poorly tuned on release that they had to release a patch completely changing them shortly after, and even then it feels clunky and unintentional.
>>402102852
i read all the clipboards, something about some of the villagers developing sentience or some garbage
it doesn't matter, their story is written by whatever matpat comes up with

What I didn't expect was the price.
It's out lads... finally something to wash away the disappointment of Bonelab.
>>402105859
vr is saved, I bought a copy for my wife's son.
I find the melee combat in bonelab really frustrating, it's like nothing has any weight. I can slam a regular guy's head with a baseball bat over and over and over and it'll be like i'm hitting him with a feather, doesn't even react to it, then i'll accidentally nudge him with a box and it's like I just nuked nagasaki.
Then the ball turrets, drop big metal crates on them, no reaction. Drop bricks, monitors, rubble, weapons, weights, anything at all that is meant to be heavy. No reaction.
Drop a baseball on it, dead.
Run up and grab it so that you can twist the gun away from yourself or throw the fucker over an edge? Nope, it's made of teflon you can't grip that shit even though it's got a big yellow carry handle on the top of it lmao also it rolls backwards faster than you can move forwards because for some reason you're barely moving at a crawl now lol? Enjoy doing the level over retard.
I don't get it, I just do not get why things are so inconsistent. You can beat the fuck out of five guys in a row then the sixth it's like he doesn't feel your blows. You can destroy multiple of those turrets and then suddenly there's one that just ignores physics. The INCONSISTENCY is the problem.
>>402106835
Just mod it. :)

>>402089562
The physics feel less polished than release Boneworks to me. I had 1 gamebreaking moment throughout Boneworks where I glitched into a container with no way out. I've had 3 so far in Bonelab, one where I fell through the floor after landing too hard, another where I could not open any balls for some reason and one more where I glitched into a sealed container. This is on top of the same bugs as before with my hands stuck inside objects plus new ones like being launched backwards when trying to climb and respawning with half my legs stuck in the ground.
The new standing/sitting autoadjustment just feels awkward too. Sometimes my character gets stuck in a half squat so I'm constantly needing to adjust it back up. It's great for vehicles but needs the option to turn it off, if I need to crouch my knees can handle it IRL.

>>402102006
Yeah I some reviewers claimed there is a mild screendoor effect which is kinda wierd over 2,1k res. G2 users claim there is none on the reverb.
>At a similar price point the only non-meta competitor would be a HP Reverb Gen 2, no?
Yeah thats what Im thinking about but the sweet spot is tiny and its pretty expensive here in europe... usually 600 or over a bit.
If I could get a g2 for 450-500 I would buy that and forget about it.
>>402089105
Nothing will beat the feeling of blasting a mother fucker with a shotgun. The pump action is just the cherry on the top. Bonelab's shotguns are actually really good somehow too.
>>402102296
It's actually worse than you think. The UV map on the nulls are projected from view. You can see it stretch and wrap around the sides of the model. I can't wait to see someone rip the models and textures so we can see how bad it really is. Honestly would have preferred they put a wireframe over the nulls that matched the edges of their verts and had them shade sharp to make it even more obvious they were fake non-humans.
just beat bonelab. it's good and I am excited for mods

Bonelab shotguns are among the worst guns I've ever had the misfortune of handling in VR god damn

Any anons here know how PCVR Bonelab performs on a minimum spec machine? Boneworks ran great on my (slightly overclocked) gtx 970 with a Rift S, but I'm afraid that won't be enough for Lab. Is it possible to use the Quest assets/graphics with the PC version?
>>402141040
tl;dr
>>402141289
Do you have an SSD with enough space? You can crank the graphics/render resolution down to get acceptable performance, but an SSD is required or the game can't load assets fast enough.
I'd still wait until it goes on sale.
>>402117635
I only know bong land prices, but you can get used ones for ~£400 or so.
>>402141762
Yeah I do have an SSD. Gonna take your advice and wait for a sale (and mods)
>>402109280
I think you can turn it off in an .ini, maybe the save file? It can be disabled.
I've had 0 game breaking bugs in BL so far, whereas in BW I had several and like 5 CTDs at release. Stuff gets stuck in stuff, feels like it's happening less to me, but BW did not run well at release for me at all.
>>402141040

only had one major bug in my playthrough where i had to restart the game because i couldn't grab with one hand

>>402155128
I'm pretty happy with it. Grip points are a bit fucked up because the hand bones are all unweighted placeholder ones. Arms are almost too short to reach around the holster collision boxes. Climbing is pretty difficult because you can't always grab edges properly and will often just pull whatever is in your holster out even with fully extended arms. Arms also don't line up perfect either. For combat though you make up for your relative inability to move by being too short for melee enemies to reach when they're standing up.

VR factorio/satisfactory sounds cool as fuck tho
At what point do I get to hotswap avatars? I just started the mines.I'm slow because I still get nauseous and the headset hurts my face. and because ladder tops like me about as much as my ex's
>>402159370
i was gonna answer but you made it gaychapter 12 but the chapters are all an average of 5 minutes in length
Man Boneworks was so cool I can't wait to see what the devs have in store for the sequel!!
>Buy VR headset

Is there a light on the horizon? Is Saints & Sinners 2 going to be longer than the first or is Skyrim VR going to get easy to set up? I'm genuinely wondering if I should sell my headset and maybe get another when if things get better.

I think they'd be fine if the general issues of handling guns and holding the front grip would be solved
>>402101807
I find pump and lever action (where you just move forward-backwards) usually works fine, but lever action depends on the game
If the game is really anal about you having to rotqate the bolt then it can be frustrating, yeah, but if the game is lenient where you pretty much can just pull your hand back and it rotates the bolt for you (ITR comes to mind) it's nice and smooth
>>402183361
>rotweiners
Well it's a completely different game and a different genre and completely different visually and completely different mechanics and different weapon handling so I'm struggling to find why you'd even think that was an apt comparison.
Anyway comparing it to stalker isn't really fair either though that happens a lot. They have the same source material (a roadside picnic) but where stalker is all factions and banditry, itr is comfy post apocalyptic scavenging and raiding. Honestly it's more like tarkov than stalker. It's also heavy on exploration and the danger of the unknown so the less you know about the setting and challenges the better. The general gameplay loop is get in, get loot, get out. The story is told in audio tapes, journal pages, and memories. There's side missions you can do for money and high priority missions you can do to advance the story and get access to better gear from the shop. It's tense and unforgiving difficulty-wise and the gameplay requires slow and patient awareness. Every bullet is counted and managed, each caliber has a bunch of different variants and guns to shoot them with. There's food, a playable guitar, comfy scenery to sit by the campfire and look out into, basic mod support, and it's still being actively developed despite already having the full release. There's even the old full release 1.0 still in the steam betas available to play which is quite different and much more atmospheric and brutal.
Honestly it's one of the best vr games out at the moment and goes on 30% off sales often. Go play it and try not to spoil yourself on it before you do.
>>402185770
I find the single action weapons work consistently in ItR, but Pavlov's pump action is terrible for me.
>>402147669

We definitely need more single player vrfps games, it's kind of annoying how many multiplayer and barebones sandbox ones we get.
>>402183361
>I played that zombie quest thing in H3VR and just found it tedious
That's because the gamemodes in H3VR are crap, the dev has no idea how to make fun gameplay and I'm glad he's finally realised it and started to add modding support.
>>402192290
but bonelab is a barebones sandbox one

>zombie quest thing in H3VR
That's pretty much an anti-game with how poorly the mechanics and gameplay work together. It shouldn't be the comparison for anything.

>>402207038

>>402207038
Rift CV1 was the closest one to perfection, the only flaw it had was computionally expensive tracking. Index is a close second, amazing tracking, amazing system, but it has reliability issues (kinda overblown + solved by amazing, amazing customer support, but the issue remains and it'll kill headsets with time). Situation is not bad at all.
>>402208740
I'd say Rift's durability was a big problem. Mine was practically destroyed after 18 months, but my Index is still perfect after 3 years.

Still love my CV1, occasionally I plug it in again (and enjoy constant usb disconnect sounds) and appreciate just how well engineered and designed it is. Then I take it off because the SDE is just too much, but it's an excellent device.
I wonder if there's a way to do a panel swap.
>>402209903
I had exactly the opposite experience, my CV1 is in perfect conditions, the controllers have endured quite a few bangs and are fine. My Index seems to fall apart (and then take forever for RMAs to process). My Q2 is pretty durable too, the controllers less so.
>>402216808
I don't know how that is possible when the Index is built like a tank but the Rift is thin brittle plastic.
>>402217142
Controllers and face padding basically. In terms of the actual headsets both of mine are in perfect condition - they've suffered a couple of accidental face punches but that's about it. The padding on the Index did not last well for me, the padding on my CV1 miraculously did (and I know it crumbled for quite a few people).
The knuckles controllers had quite a few issues for me, stick issues, one just stopped working, maybe I got the bad ones off the line. My CV1 controllers seem to be unbreakable, not even stick drift.
Whilst we're comparing my Quest 2 headset is also pristine, although I did have to swap out the strap to a DAS. The controllers though are pretty bad. I have had major stick drift issues.

What VR game has gotten closest to the physics of GTA IV?
>>402227772
no dude it's very advanced it's all physics based dude just trust me it's the future of vr!
>>402228483
Blade and Sorcery with the NPC grab mod is a little like how GTAIV NPCs could grab onto your car and get dragged along. Seeing them hang onto each other for dear life is funny. The rest of B&S' physics are more reminiscent of the swingset glitch.
>>402227772
Unity is the base engine, on top of which they made their own engine, many devs do this.
>>402234614
yeah but it doesnt seem that different or amazingly performant or good
I was not expecting Resident Evil 4 VR to feel faithful, despite a change in engine. Been using original-game settings, although I wish you could assign the tank controls to one stick. Only VR thing that felt like a missed opportunity after 3hrs of playing is the radio calls not reflecting Leon's video feed based on how you're holding it.
Might end up my new favourite version after playing the fuck out of that Wii release in the day, even though the crosshair aiming made it a breeze. Need Armature to get contracted to port other shit, since they have staff that clearly care about the work they do.And hopefully they're adding Separate Ways since it's the only content lacking at this point iirc.
>>402209903
Only durability issue I ever heard with the Rift CV1 was the right speaker just dying for some people. Mine's went strong five years without issue, before sunsetting it for wireless w/ a Quest 2. I do miss CV1's strap design though, shit was easy to put on and always fit snug.
>>402227772
You can ignore a lot of Unity's included functionality. I assume Marrow Engine is just them basically homebrewing their own physics interaction system rather than using the crappy one Unity comes stock with.
Escape from Pavlov is kinda cool. They probably can't add a backpack system, or any kind of real item persistence to make it worth playing more than a few times though.
>>402240513
How does a map look so fucking bad (since it's still in dev clearly) but weigh in at 1.5gb?
I look forward to the Unreal VR Injector release so I can play the Radiohead walking sim in VR without buying VorpX

Like with any engine on top of another engine, it's to ease with implementing content, probably half the reason for it is to make things easier for modders https://github.com/StressLevelZero/MarrowSDK
I like the atmosphere and setting of both bone games so much, but I really wish they had more interesting levels. 2 shotting zombies and gunning balls stops being fun very quickly.
man why are vive base stations so expensive? I wanna get trackers for motion capture and vr chat but before I can even get trackers the two base stations alone will run like $500. Aren't they just a simple laser and motor with mirror? Parts probably cost like $10 for each.
>get to the hub in bonelab
>think to myself "man i just want to download a full save so i get all the content without having to go through a 5 hour long treasure hunt"
it's like i didn't even want to play the story i just wanted vr gmod kek
>>402241997
Valve have a monopoly on them so they can sell them at any price they want.
>>402238258
They're using the Nvidia PhysX physics engine for physics
>>402242160
what would you do with all the unlocked content though?
most of the games are unlocked from the start, you even have the basic enemies and the spawn guns on the sandbox maps
>>402242560
Isn't the specs open? In the same way that other companies are allowed to build trackers using the steamvr spec, such as Tundra or Manus, can't other companies also build base stations? If they have as large of a profit margin as I imagine, surely someone would have done so?
>>402243228
I don't know, but no-one has made a third party lighthouse or controller, despite the overpricing and how poor the two existing controllers are. I guess Pimax, but their controller looks like shit too. A Touch style controller that cost less would dominate the market.
>>402243228
The kind of lens a base station needs is extremely specialized, and requires very precise creation. I figure that's the main thing Valve has manufactured on lockdown.
>>402243827
Really? How is it different than any other line-generating lens? What pattern is the base stations actually projecting?
>>402243827
>>402244126
I don't think the lens is the problem. It just emits wide angle IR pulses, right?
>>402243065
>what would you do with all the unlocked content though?
i don't really know. i feel like i just got this game for hypothetical future content than the current content
>>402224973
That 'beta' still isn't out after 4 months, right?
Hey, I'm thinking of upgrading to a new vr set from my cockulus rift cv1 I've had since 2019 sometime soon, but I don't think I'll afford a valve index and I don't trust zuck what with the new """meta""" """quest""" """2"".
I'm looking at the hp reverb g2 as a cheaper alternative but apparently its controllers are shit, although I heard you can get the index controllers to work with it.
I'm on the fence of what modern vr headset to get that is
>good
>works with steamvr
>has good controllers
>doesn't cost too much
I'm thinking of maybe ordering an hp reverb and some valve lighthouse shenanigans to hook up the index controllers (so that would include ordering: some 2.0/1.0 base stations, a usb adapter dongle or something so I don't need a lighthouse headset to use the controllers, and the controllers themselves) off of ebay, but I'm afraid that may cost as much as the index, if not more.
For reference, optimistically speaking, if I get enough good money by christmas (I don't have a job), my budget would be $500
What do you guys suggest?
>>402245331
your best choice is still the index, sadly
turns out the kristal mod works alongside the VR mod.
Is it true that SteamVR has noticeable penalty to framerate on Oculus headsets and you should use OpenComposite whenever possible?
>>402245331
Wireless is the game changer anon. Either suck it up for Quest 2 or wait for Deckard
>>402249378
i used a rift s with a 1060 6gb through oculus+steamvr for about a year
i swapped to an index and despite higher res, got higher framerates just going through steamvr
anecdotally, the difference is massive and i'd do anything to stay out of the meta ecosystem
Is upgrade from Rift S to Quest 2 worth it? Or should i ride Rift S until it dies and then get something else, hoping something new shows up on the market?
>>402251832
Fair. You either get an ecosystem that doesnt eat shit or effortless setup (no lightstations) and wireless mode
the fucking pillar level in bonelab actually made me motion sick what the fuck
>>402252073
essentially, yeah
>>402251903
the quest is a bit of a hassle to set up as a proper pcvr headset and then the only real differences between the two are wireless capability and a slightly better display

Valve time headset.
>>402256054
Valve's upcoming headset. Nothing really is known about it but its supposed to be wireless like quest and have inside out tracking while also being standalone
>>402238041
Shell out for a DAS. I did for my Q2 (after bobo and a few others) and never looked back. Add a VRCover interface and you get close to CV1 comfort - it's still heavier (and frontloaded weight at that), but not much to do about that apart from counterbalance.
>>402245331
If you're buying the base stations you might as well get the Index. The HMD itself isn't that expensive. That said if you want to spend less than you would for an Index there are basically four options:
1) Wait for Pico 4 reviews and see if it's good, accept china into your house in the process.
2) Reverb G2, good optics, mediocre tracking and bad controllers.
3) Get a Quest 2 (particularly if you value wireless too), which remains good value.
4) Wait for PSVR 2 and see if it's Steam VR compatible.
>>402258370
>Wait for PSVR 2 and see if it's Steam VR compatible.
>>402258737
It shouldn't be that hard to write an OpenXR driver for it.
>>402249378
Sort of. Steam VR (pre OpenXR) is poorly optimised for Oculus. The performance overhead varies and in some cases it seems to be very low (HL Alyx for example) whereas in others it's ~10% (ITTR). There has been a lot of detailed benchmarking and the general consensus is that SteamVR is a 10% overhead for unoptimised titles with using Oculus. Going the other way with Reverb is noticeably less, interestingly.
There's also a performance overhead due to encoding for the Q2, this seems to be 3-5% depending on settings.
If you're seriously performance strapped your best bet is to use Virtual Desktop and play wirelessly, it handles SteamVR natively and is more efficient in encoding than Airlink, so you can get equivalent performance then.
>>402258737
PSVR 1 was easily made compatible (with a webcam for the wands). I wouldn't be surprised honestly. I wouldn't even be surprised if Sony provide some official compatibility or a PSVR2.5 that has PC compatibility. But unless they're doing something very funky I guarantee we'll get modded support.
>>402259302
>There has been a lot of detailed benchmarking
Source on that. Sounds like bullshit to me. Not the impact, but the detailed benchmarking part.
>>402259539
It's on the Oculus forums, I don't have it bookmarked but there was a long running thread analysing this and I'm sure it's findable with some leg work. A few devs weighed in and most of the measurements were done by the BabelTech people. I always assumed they'd write an article about it but they never did.

The hits don't register properly and it's mostly down to me but I have no idea what else to tweak to make them accurate.
Anything on the Quest store that's not on PC that's worth a fuck besides RE4VR? Going to be holiday sales coming up these months, and I already have all the go-tos on the PC side of things (including the Oculus PC shit like Lone Echo 1&2/Asgards Wrath/Robo Recall/Stormland).
i was very long into ascent and part of the level failed to load, i tried to just go through the partially unloaded area but i eventually fell into the void and had no choice but to restart so i closed the game, should i just watch the end or should i go through the whole thing again? i dont want to roll the balls again this was already my second time
they already showed half the level in the trailer anyway which is a shame cause its like 1/4 of the entire game or something
also i dont like the avatar change gimmick the short avatars are too easy to accidentally grab your inventory slots and the fat and tall guy is just op its dumb

No Heroes Allowed VR
>>402284241
>short avatars are too easy to accidentally grab your inventory slots
This is the case but make sure that your body remapping settings are accurate. In general if your height or any other body size setting are off then body slots will feel bad and it will be exacerbated on small or very large avatars.
>>402246527
just what I've been waiting to hear
>>402284241
>i was very long into ascent and part of the level failed to load
I'm baffled at how linear the levels are, yet they can't stream assets in fast enough off a regular 7200rpm drive. Either pre-load more shit on PC or make the game self-aware of when it's behind, and pause the game until it's ready.
>>402286195
>I want my game to hitch ever time an asset loads
Do you realize that the point of asset streaming is to load stuff in and out of memory on demand, asynchronously? If you had to sit a wait for the asset its no long asset streaming, you just back to conventional synchronous loading where you have to wait for it to finish. Except now you are doing on a moment to moment bases so everything would case a hitch. Suck it up any disk drives are boomer shit, nobody that can afford an VR should be running anything off an HDD
>>402288942
How about the game makes use of my 32gb of ram.
>>402289884
Your ram is near useless, its all about vram and async gpu upload operations. Your ram is just acting as a buffer between the what should be an ssd and vram. If you think you have enough memory to swing it then just run it off a ram drive.
>>402290846
>Your ram is near useless

>no audio jack

>>402291010
The reality is that all almost all future vr titles will be made with targeting mobile platforms first. pcvr is super dead, Valve sucked all the air out of the room with Alyx. So if you want to keep playing the vr game that devs decide to grace us on pc with then you at least need a system that can keep up with the storage speed standard of 400 dollar mobile chipset.
>>402292219
You would think a game that has to run on a Snapdragon XR2 would load without problems even on a 5400rpm drive.
>controller broke
>Zucc will fix it for me for free because warranty
>7 days for it to get to them, 7 days back to me
>I'm out of commission for 2 weeks

>>402292321
Not even close, the bench marks of even the cheapest solid state storage cannot be touched by any mechanical drive in the categories that are important. What's more is that in the context of a game, that is made of lots of little bit data that are scattered around a reused though the project, what is the most important is random access. You need to be able to quickly grab a lot of little random files that are not necessarily near each other in sequential storage space and send them to the gpu. HDD are extra bad at that since the have to physically seek a drive head to the correct position and wait for that data to run past. If the data just happened to be all lined up in order and ready to go it would be a different story, but that is never going to be the case in a game since, 1; aforementioned reuse of assets, and 2; the use can on the fly change what assets are necessary with the in game actions.
I've been absolutely losing my mind trying to get Quest hardware to work with my internet. Since the start, casting was the issue and now I've been trying to have my new PC connect to the headset for gaming.
After giving up for some months, new updates actually show me what's slowing my connection.
Channel Width is at 20Mhz.
However I'm on 5GHz network, and through my router settings the channel is set to 80Mhz.
No matter the reboots, restarts and settings, my Quest (1) headset always registers the 5GHz connection as a channel width of 20Mhz
I have no ideas ahead how to fix it further.
>>402089105

I've just been doing my daily dose of Mercenaries on RE4VR.
>>402292219
psvr2?
>>402298161
I'm expecting it to be another case of PSVR1 where modern AAA games just have a small optional "VR" mode on the side that remains exclusive to it, alongside 4hrs-at-most VR experiences like that linear looking Horizon game coming to it.
Do hope that VR mode coming for PSVR2 of RE7 & 8 gets backported to PC though.
>>402293135
>but that is never going to be the case in a game
Part of the reason AAA game sizes are so bloated is because they use duplicate assets in the right places to minimize loading times.
>>402298161
That is fair psvr to will help maintain some of the higher target spec games, but it dose not really change that there is a content drought. Nobody is making vr games in general there is a high demand for games and not enough developers willing to put in the r&d to actually figure out vr ux. Hens why people over hyped bonelab, there is just fucking nothing else coming out so too many people latched onto it convincing them them selves that it was going to be their dream game. When no, bonelab was always going to be another weird obtuse physics tech demo, that is what slz wants to make.
>>402297492
wtf is blowlab?
>>402298854

Early access course. Once studios land a hit with the "upgrade soon" scam, there wont ever be another game from them, they hit a cash cow with a cult following throwing money their way for new meshes. I mean, does anybody expect facepunch to ever make another game then adding shit nobody wants to Rust
>>402351584
I don't see the problem with this. I don't have to keep paying them.
>>402352090
I would prefer they worked on adding new maps than new guns. By the looks of things they're adding heavy weapons which has been a highly requested feature. Should make kolhoz a bit more bearable and also allow for a new area to be full of bullshit hard stuff. I know it probably won't happen with how dodgy pathing and enemy AI is in that game but I'd love to see a close quarters map like a section of pechorsk proper. Lots of verticality and buildings, maybe an open park in view of snipers in windows. A highway full of burnt out cars. I'd also like to see the scythe anomaly properly used for puzzles like it was in 1.0's train station.

>>402351584
Game really should have kept the early access thing on Steam. They dropped it eons ago, and then a year and a bit later dumped v2.0 which basically was a different game so they could port it to Quest (which people seem to like despite it looking muddier than an N64 game)

I agree regarding price - I accept inflation so what was once £15 is no longer, but £30 is steep for this. £20 would've been fine.
I think they've managed to not be gmod, not be a campaign driven game, not be a AAA PCVR experience, and just sit in the middle in the least satisfying way imaginable. All that said, I still think bonelabs is fairly good - and it does run better and jank less than BW for me. I look forward to the mods because there isn't much else to do.

Its easier. Instead of taking risk and having to invest in a new project, keep the base game, add a few new meshes here and there, port it to a new platform, milk more cash with the same base game.
The strange thing, they could milk the cows better at about the same risk if they would apply the Rockstar formular. Keep the base game but release new map packs with new stories and a few technical upgrades every few years at full price
>>402357216
When Bonelab was announced I remember a lot of people were just expecting it to be a QUESTED version of boneworks while we wait for the real Boneworks 2. What happened since that changed those expectations?
>>402371362
People got hyped to consoom.
>>402371362
It's likely different people. Hearing quest immediately makes a lot of people expect the former. I imagine people expecting some kind of g-mod type experience were watching the gameplay videos they released, because they definitely seemed to put an emphasis on customizability and sandboxy stuff.
>>402371362
boneworks 2 will never happen
>>402369649
I will give props to the ItR devs for not trying to milk 2.0 as a new/upgraded release that you had to pay for, even though the game up to that point early access in all but name. It definitely feels like a passion project.
>>402371362
>What happened since that changed those expectations?
Probably that it was also announced to be coming to PC months after the original announcement of it being a Quest project.
If it was strictly Quest exclusive, expectations would have been vastly lowered.
>>402374213
I think the reality of most future games being multiplatform with standalone has also fully set in. There's little hope for PCVR only titles from anything but the smallest of indie devs now.
>>402374658
It's unfortunately what's needed to keep VR game development alive, otherwise it'd still be very niche from the smallest of indie devs like it was prior to the Quest launch. The closest shit we had to AAA outside of Alyx were those little self-contained modes within a AAA game on the PSVR1 side of things.
>>402121121
I can't remember who it was but this one review I watched right before buying claimed a 14hr campaign, incredible what these guys are getting away with saying. I can't refund bonelab anymore obviously but the modding community being as active as it is already makes me kinda hopeful. Soon I'll be able to wash away the disappointment of the story mode by just replaying boneworks in bonelab.

Its always the cable that goes to fuck.
>>402382108
I can't recall, did Rift S use a propriety cable that Facebook didn't own the production rights to like they did the CV1? It made sourcing a new cable for CV1 aids after they stopped making more.
Any games with the same type of setting as boneworks/bonelabs, but with fun gameplay?
>>402382290
Yes. Its the USB3/DP one that costs like 100+$ now.
If mine craps out i'll probably just save up and buy a quest 2
>>402381480
I've had one from near launch that still works fine but it's falling apart from wear and shitty design decisions.
The top strap was held on by a small piece of plastic that eventually sheared off from years of picking it up. Pic related is not mine but shows where it happened, Quest 2 has a similar flaw so I can't even blame Lenovo for it. Glue didn't work so it's now held on with cable ties
Despite being extremely careful with the cable I had to wrap part of it in electrical tape after the friction against my back wore the rubber coating away.
I broke the tightening knob because the thin, smooth untextured wheel offered no grip to sweaty gamer hands unless I squeezed the shit out of it. Thankfully it was an easy fix.
On the controllers the rubber grip is peeling and I occasionally need to spray contact cleaner in the sticks otherwise they'll start drifting. They've been dropped many times, put dents in my wall and withstood multiple punches into a brass doorhandle so I don't think the reputation of them being fragile is deserved.
i want to play VR but there are NO GAMES. maybe i play some active/exercise games-- what do you play to move your body

>>402371362
It feels quested, and it's janky, and it's short, and it's more expensive than boneworks. But they worked hard on the mod support, so you're kind of paying for the platform in a sense. And it's actually amazing that the avatar system works as well as it does.
In the end, well - I'm starving for solid vr content and slz are one of the only devs even trying to do something new and good.

nta, but koikatsu is great in VR and super easy to play.
VAM gets recommended a lot but it's a fucking mess, if you can be bothered to spend hours learning and setting it up it can be good but I couldn't be arsed.
Then there's Skyrim VR sex mods, another good but kind of a pain in the arse to set up game, I don't think it's as bad as VAM though.
>>402398830
Maybe they thought no-one was using it so they cut it to save a penny in production costs.
I spent a few of months without playing VR anything, and I came back like 2 weeks ago and bros
VR gaming is so much fucking fun
Shooters are fun even when I'm losing, Alyx is incredible, the complexity of the weapons in ItR is so fucking good, Demeo is so good to play with friends and I've even been learning how to play Poker lately and having a blast. The only thing I don't really have fun with are sandbox games like B&S and Bonelab
I want more single player experiences like Alyx and ItR. I've played modded Skyrim and while it's pretty fucking amazing, it is just skyrim at the end, and I have like 3k hours in Skyrim already(and probably double that just modding it).
I've been thinking of Fallout 4 VR, apparently with mods it's pretty awesome, and I've never played Fallout 4 before, so it'd be a cool experience to do it in VR for the first time I think
I just don't see me playing much on flat screen anymore bros, and I'm pretty happy about it.

>>402433697
With Fallout 4 you may as well play it for the first time in VR with how mods have improved the VR version. What hurts it from being 100% definitive is that a lot of content mods won't work with VR due to dependencies not being compiled for VR, XDI specifically. Compare that to Skyrim where all the major dependencies have been ported so big content mods like Enderal (Play it if you haven't) just werk. When Fallout London lands you will have to be playing for that, but if you only care about vanilla content then it shouldn't matter.

>>402455874
Do I have to buy fallout 4 again to play it in vr or is it just a mod for regular fallout 4? Also one thing I didn't like about skyrim vr was that melee never had enough reach to hit enemies before colliding with their bounding box. Trying to hit them would result in me being pushed upwards or away and out of reach. Hitting mudcrabs especially sucked because they'd fire me off into the sun when I clipped into their claw and they swung at me.
>>402496080
it has low gravityyy!!!! plus they wantt to introduce you to the sandbox mode (ignore that you have to go into a sandbox already to get the crane battery)

>>402498176
Fallout 4 VR is separate so you have to buy or pirate it again. For Skyrim look at Planck. It completely rewrites hit detection for Skyrim VR and lets you get much closer as your bounding box gets smaller.
>>402498176
bro you just don't get it! they literally say they want builders not players (ever mind that the game is advertised as a complete experience for 40 bucks)!
What do I need for sub 6.9ms frametimes in Beat Saber on Linux? On Windows it gets 3.5-3.9ms on the same settings (low, to minimize GPU impact), but on Linux I get stuttery 6-7 ms, even though this should be enough for 144 Hz. SteamVR advanced frametimes say it's mostly "Application (scene)", and on Windows bars indicating this are halved compared to Linux.
>>402501107
Proton is doing weird shit, so it takes twice as much time on linux compared to native.
Profile the frame on both linux and windows, then compare to see who is the culprit exactly.
Then write a patch for proton that fixes the issue. Ez.
Or go back to windows, where you belong, if you are not competent enough to do that.

something that i have noticed is that lots of vr games with medival sections or setting have bows and arrows, but no crossbows
not in blade and sorcery, which has guns through modding now
not in A Townshit Stale, which is dead and that probably explains it
haven't seen one in the Legendary Tales game either
Skyrim, H3 and Minecraft seem to have a crossbow, all other games where it would fit don't seem to have one
or i have missed them
is there a reason why bows get implemented but crossbows don't?
>>402572405
>but crossbows don't?
You would think that this would be more immersive?
Range weapons already have the advantage, that you don't need to feel any resistance as with swords hitting each other.
I can only explain it away by saying that many don't feel like crossbows would fit, as they somewhat handle like guns? I don't know.

you are so boring dumb retarded niggers
>>402572654
Easier to use too. I'm shit with bows in blade and sorcery.
>>402572405
Bows are iconic (main reason), feel good to use in VR and you can vary the force (never matters though)
Crossbow's main advantages don't apply in most games (no training and less strength required), so most of the time it's just a bow but slow and powerful. Why bother with new type of weapon if you can just make a stronger bow
>>402580270
can you pierce armor with bows in VR?
never paid much attention to it since headshots usually kill instantly
that and having to draw the bow vs having a shot ready when you need it
>>402582048
>having to draw the bow vs having a shot ready when you need it
Doesnt matter in VR since you can draw the string quickly
Armor pierce is game-specific, I guess you mean B&S, I don't know, didn't use the bow there
Honestly wouldn't be surprised if they do add a crossbow later on
>>402583907
in A Townshit Stale the different strength bows require longer to draw the string, so only if draw time is taken into consideration would a crossbow be viable?
>>402584201
Maybe? I could argue why do you need readiness in the first place, just use a sword
>>402584454
if the enemy is in a place that i can't reach easily or would put me in danger of dying
in that case the argument that you can simply draw the bow quickly would win again
i guess i just want another option besides the bow that doesn't have to do with throwing since i suck at throwing
>>402580270
Limiting draw speed or adding increasing amounts of shaking to the front of the bow the longer you hold back the string would give the crossbow some of it's real life advantages. I don't know if doing that would feel good in VR though.

virtual reality
>>402572405
The main reason's probably the novelty. Tactility is put on a pedestal in VR games and pulling back a bowstring is something different than the old 'point and shoot' you would get with a crossbow, which is already covered in most games with actual guns.

Same devs who ported LA Noire VR, which was 1/4 the length of the actual game it's based on. Also that the GTA:SA version they'll use as a base is likely the shitty Android version that was also used for the GTA:DE release that was much maligned.
>That'll be $99.99 plus tax sir

>>402711808
LA Noire VR was good for its time, and it was short because that's what publishers did back in the day, dipping their toes into VR. As far as we know SA is unlikely to be cut down like that.
The android port is fine, DE's biggest problem was the shitty models and textures.

Was pretty much the only one that appealed to me of what I tried. There's barely any good escape-room VR games when the medium is perfect for it. It's just The Room VR and IEYTDs which are both short, and don't allow free exploration of the environment.

I haven't touched it in over a year, but I absolutely hated the virtual joystick controls when I have two perfectly functioning joysticks on my controller that I couldn't use for it. Ground stuff in VR is pretty comfy though. Game absolutely needs an above average CPU for VR though to minimize stutter as much as possible, as the game is fucking hungry in that regards.
How on earth is San Andreas supposed to be playable In VR?
>>402862834
I honestly don't know how you could make it comfortable enough with its driving handling either, especially with a first-person perspective (cops just coming in and T-boning you). The graphics would need a bit of an overhaul also to not stand out like a sore thumb like it already does in the botched DE release. That's ignoring how brain-dead the game's AI is also.
>>402859980
I had fun playing it but it's a huge performance hog and the graphics really don't feel like they justify it. The pop-in and AA are really bad compared to the flat version.
There's a lot to explore with all the updates now so maybe it's worth the sale price if you really like the sound of space/planetary exploration and crafting. The other parts of the game like combat and quests are more of a side dish even with the additions they've made over the years. Base building is required for the story and seemed decent if that's your thing; I just built the minimum to continue the story and get access to vehicles.

That breaks it for me, my CPU is a Ryzen 5 2600 and I have a 1660 super, it'll probably stutter like a motherfucker

>>402867221
AFAIK you can't use a HOTAS in NMS, at least not in VR. Also, their flight controls are really bad. When you tilt the stick left and right it controls yaw instead of roll and there's no way to change that. Its garbage compared to something like VTOL VR

babeltechreviews has done some VR benchmarks. They're one of the only people I've seen who've done as such.
TSE doesn't use the DLSS hackery so that's pure rasterization performance, which is pretty significant and you can extrapolate some relative gains from it, give or take around 10% most of the time.

I finally finished Bonelabs. It was fun. It was also worse than Boneworks in most ways - it ran a bit better on my PC (1080ti so low end these days) and it on CTD'd once whereas BW CTD'd a lot at release.
I really do like the avatar switching system, I don't think they utilised it particularly well in the game but the concept is great.Being big tall guy terrorising the villagers at the end was hilarious, I wish there were grenades or explosives and then I would peak over their walls and throw boomsticks at them.
Looking forward to mods I guess, after I put my measurements in properly the space warp worked really well too. I thought it significantly improved presence, I'd be very pleased to see something like it in other games.
I'm not convinced of the replayability of the game either. I really enjoyed replaying BW levels, but there aren't many places I couldn't get to or really wanted to explore in BL.

I expected myself to like fast/light characters, but in the end I think the most pleasant thing to do in bonelab is punching enemies using thicc avatar. it's hard to show it on video, but it just feels so right
>>402947965
There's a moment on the bridge level - I suspect for every player - when you wonder "Can I punch the bones off a skeleton?". You then sock a skeleton in the skull and it arcs off to oblivion leaving the rest of the skeleton to collapse.
It's brilliant, and such a great sense of power compared to other avatars. I wish there were more enemies with detachable bits for strong guy. E.g. tearing the legs off headset crablets.
>>402913317
Probably DEADFM. Also, apparently bonelab got split into 2 separate projects in 2020, so we might get something sooner than we think.
>>402948741
maybe that explains the weird secret area in tuscany that's only accessible activating and modifying certain chunks and yet was clearly meant for players to find
>>402948942
Have you noticed the weird tunnel system in the hub? Feels too big to just be a joke by the devs, even the music changes when you enter it. A story dlc wouldn't surprise me
>>402949158
ya i found that its way too elaborate to just be some weird joke its almost like the different areas would be cut off from each other at some point and that would be the only way around
>>402948741
DeadFM is Bonelab though, with Jimmy is the radio DJ
Boneworks is obviously Boneworks, but in DS it's referring to the Boneworks backend instead of the game itself
>>402949158
you mean the area behind the vent covers?
>>402948258
the skeletons don't have detatchable bits, just a unique death animation that spawns bone props in.
otherwise, they're reskinned zombies/nullbodies. enough to trick you into thinking the game has more enemy variety than it does, I guess.
>>402743334
I'll try to get a better feel for the game first, if that succeeds I will defo join the future lobbies.
>>402948741
BL surely is Dead FM.
>>402949158
>>402948942
It's interesting - the whole story is about breaking the game. That's what Jimmy does, and I wonder to what extent BL is a metagame arg. Meant to be explored with dev tools + melon loader etc., and that this is all intentional. The keycards are another example of this, and the fact that their output value is set to -1, which you can change in melon loader to get them working.
And odd things like keycards below the map floor etc. - many things seem to assume you're breaking the game, and much more overtly than BW.
I don't doubt that there'll be story added to the game in patches though, not least to fill in the various encrypted text logs. Also there's the weird void room in level 1. I could imagine DLC with story elements + new arenas/parkour/etc. and reusable content for mods or something.
>>402957449
Fascinating, and a bit of a shame. I really like the feel of smashing the skull and seeing it go flying; I wish there were enemies that were destructible in some way - even if simple.
