Beat it today after putting it off waiting on a GPU upgrade. What a ride. Had the whole setup too, VR, HOTAS, pedals. Prez best girl.

I made a custom face gasket for my index out of air-dry foam clay, inspired by https://community.openmr.com/t/mod-ergonomically-perfect-facial-foam/35634 . I got a bucket of the foam clay from hobby lobby for $5, and there's enough in there for like 10 tries. I cut out the yellow foam from a dilapidated VR cover foam I've had for the past 3 years, rolled out a log of the foam clay using the old foam as a guide, stuck the gasket in headset, and pressed my face into it, trying to get my eye position as optimal as possible. The foam clay is pretty soft and won't leave too much residue on your face when you pull it back off, just need to wipe. Then I dried it for 24 hours or so, and applied a coat of mod podge to seal it and hopefully keep it soft.

I've only used it for like 30 minutes so far, but it's definitely a better fit. More secure when moving my head more balanced skin contact to hold the weight, and doesn't move my eyes from the sweet spot. From the shape of it, it seems my head is narrower than the default gasket, so the middle of the forehead is really thin but the sides are fat, and there's some indents for my sinuses/cheekbones. The raw foam/mod podge seal actually feels fine on my skin if a little sticky, but I'm kind of afraid if I sweat too much the foam will disintegrate. So I stuck the cotton vr cover over it, and it still feels fine. The dried foam isn't as soft as the memory foam that's in the default gasket, so when move my mouth, I do notice my face changes shape and the foam isn't as lenient. In that openmr post the guy sticks on a layer of memory foam on top of the dried foam clay, which I may have to do if it becomes an issue.

Overall it's worth trying, since the foam clay stuff is dirt cheap. I did have an extra rigid gasket with the magnets already though, which you need for this. But if you have one of those, I can recommend it so far.

Pico guy here, despite DHL's fight to not I did get it delivered. Had it for a few days. I've really enjoyed it and have sincerely enjoyed everyone's suggestions. Half Life 2 VR and Vertigo 2 have been mainly what my time has been spent it. Though I have learned rather quickly that VRChat absolutely fucking sucks and I am hoping that eventually doing it with you degenerates might actually be enjoyable.

All in all, the Pico is a great headset and the color/blacks issue I haven't really had any issues with. Seems far better than the oculus I tried before. Face gasket isn't horribly comfortable but seals well and is only mild in it's discomfort. Selection of games (natively) is horrible but maybe someone will make an oculus to pico conversion layer or something and the library will expand. Seems until then I'll just be using it totally for PCVR.

Well, not necessarily. I lurked some time before joining my first /vrg/ instance, so I knew what I was in for, and as soon as I joined I saw someone with a nametag spelling "Ryder" rushing towards me, so I ran. Thankfully, the giant tits slowed him down when he tried to push through a small crowd in his way, which gave me time to hide in a small corner of the map. He was systematically searching for me, but right before he came to my hiding spot, some other newfag joined the instance and Ryder rushed off to hunt them down, allowing me to sneak away.
Point is, you DO have a chance to survive a Ryder instance if the map has some hiding spots, there is a crowd giving you some sort of cover, and you're either lucky or can trick another newfag into joining right after you, using them as a distraction/bait.

I played another 2 hours of wanderer (which is a pretty good game). For that sort of lazy prop hunting game without fast movement or sweat, the custom gasket does work well overall. I did notice more of the pressure on my forehead where the foam is thinnest. Not to the point of hurting but did notice it's less soft. The bottom of the headset on my sinuses is definitely better though. I remember reading somewhere about prosthetics work best when they're the opposite hardness of the body, i.e. soft against bone, and hard against flesh. so with that uncited assumption it of makes sense that the hard foam is worse on forehead, better on cheeks. Hard to say for sure though. I think I'll try cutting some of the leftover foam for my forehead and tucking it in the cloth vrcover. to mitigate this

My other idea for this custom gasket project is 3d printing one in squishy TPU, which I have some on order. I might try printing the plastic part of the gasket itself in medium-soft TPU to see if I can give the foam a bit more adaptation. I still like the simplicity of pressing your face into the foam clay and looking through the lens for getting the final fit though. trying to do some sort of face 3d scan then lining up my eyeballs with the sweet spot sounds difficult to get right.

Fucking finally holy shit. Did have a good chance to check out all the guns and have found ones that I'm most comfortable with and will probably focus on getting/keeping. Basically anything with rails is nice because I'm dogshit with irons and lasers are OP as fuck. As for guns the G36C is real nice and the MP5 is, despite its lack of attachment slots, my favourite. 5-7 also crazy good.
