I personally think that playing singleplayer games where you're alone against a horde of target dummy NPCs is far better practice then playing against normal people where you spend much less time spent shooting your gun, unless you're a newcomer to FPS in general who needs to learn a bunch of flat FPS skills like footsteps and map rotations.

Prior thread hit bump limit before I could add my two cents but I've been participating in Secret Santa for years and the "trashification" of things has really killed my motivation to keep going. Last year I got a target who was somebody that I literally never saw at /vrg/ meets ever. Since then it seems the problem has only gotten worse so I don't think I'll be taking part this time sadly.

The PSMove V2 controllers work pretty well, but at that point unless you already have them, it's much better to just buy trackers. They're also uncomfortable.
You can use a Kinect for FBT which is a solution that was somewhat common in the early days. I think you need Driver4VR or some other application to use it. It makes virtual trackers.
That said, VRChat has OSC-based fullbody tracking support now and it would do a much better job for the kinect than simulating trackers with it. Downside is, I don't know if any premade software for it exists yet.

FPS is just a result of low frame latencies; low frame latencies are the actual goal and benchmarkers for the longest time saw FPS as the goal rather than a measure for something else. Anyway, split eye rendering would not have these downsides since doing each eye actually makes sense.
