Open up Blender, buy or steal some assets from Booth, rip some assets from games, it's time to get world building. you have 3 months and the theme is winter, anything even vaguely winter themed is fine.
All skill levels are welcome. If you want to build everything from scratch, that's great, but if you want to use booth prefabs and just learn the basics, then that's okay too. There will be a hub world with portals so anyone can visit the worlds at any time but for the event itself the host will have pre-favourited the worlds so they can drop friends+ portals
You can submit your world by sending your world ID to [email protected], vrbuild on Discord or post it in the thread

Useful stuff (send me more things to put in here) https://rentry.org/vrbuild

I started working on this years ago, but only got as far as feeding headset orientation into the drone camera before getting sidetracked; having to deal with the god-awful racket the drones make every time you turn them on got old real quick.
DJI provides a single SDK that works across their entire line of consumer drones, but being a mobile SDK you're looking at a lot of java/kotlin management logic that needs to be piped into your engine of choice.

I still think Valve will release another headset eventually, but I wouldn't wait around for it at this point.
Whether or not you should get an Index depends on what sort of stuff you want to play though. Quest 2/3 or Pico 4 might be a better option.

Here are the final standings for Group A in Argentina. This one was pretty rough, had a lot of DNFs and penalties, so hopefully we'll have better luck next time.
New Dirt Rally 2.0 event is up now, we're running Group B RWD in Germany. It's not as tough as it sounds, but I'd still recommend getting some practice in. Event runs for two weeks, you'll have until Monday 10/16 to set a time. Club link is in the OP rentry if you're interested.

does your hdmi capture setup work on your pc? seems like you should be able to play its output in any media player and view that in any desktop overlay (steam, desktop+, xsoverlay, bigscreen, etc). the picture wouldn't directly be displayed on the VR screens of course, but you probably don't actually want that, unless you have a 180deg stereoscopic capture in the first place.

i can pipe it to a pc and watch it via immersed or something but that just adds another hop + latency (raspberry pi on drone -> raspberry pi on ground -> pc -> vr headset)

i can display the video stream in the headset directly by connecting the HDMI to an HDMI to USB to the headset, i just cant make it play as afullscreen video

maybe if i make a server streaming the video on the raspberry pi and i play it on the browser in the vr headset i can use the headset's video player which allows 180 video

i think ill try it with an ESP-32CAM board, there's a premade test project for it where it connects to your local wifi and hosts a video server for it's camera video feed. if this works with the esp32 it will probably work with the raspberry pi

i guess i mean like no tracking, i see the image everywhere no matter where i turn my head like it is with regular FPV goggles.

its like this with nreal air normally connected to a phone it has 3 DOF tracking via gyro but when you use outside video with hdmi you just get a screen on your face with no tracking.

>>448761831
there's an app that runs on the raspberry pi that takes in telemetry from the drone too not just the video. thats how it shows stuff like antenna gains, battery, gps coordinates and so on. ideally i want some way to take the whole display of the raspberry pi and make a server that streams it. connect the raspberry pi to the vr headset via ethernet and run it on a video player there.

Obsolete compared to what? It still has among the best tracking at a middle-range budget, and no latency or video compression artifacts. Downside is the wire.
There is no "obsolete" when all the alternatives are not straight upgrades. Of course the Vive Pro 2 is an option, but getting a Vive Pro 2 with index controllers and base stations is more expensive.

Glad they are, the platform is in good enough condition for use right now, no point in keeping people waiting.

Come join us tonight for a very special edition of pypy!

My index cable is FUCKED. I have a lot of multicolored snow, audio popping, and it loses audio and visuals frequently. It's going to die soon.
And I'm going to dance anyway! Come see if my index cable explodes. (A new one will be here thursday.

For those that don't know, at pypy, we dance along with Just Dance style videos. It's fun!

the digital drone video system im using supports any camera you can put on a raspberry pi 2w, and they make some vey low-light cameras for those like Arducam IMX462 which i ordered and should arrive in a couple of days.

you can even put thermals on the drone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K93X5zKUSmw
it supports thermals from the HT201 to the FLIR Boson 640 which costs like 10+ times what my drone costs.

anyways my current plan is to get the drone working, ive had constant problems with a new drone build, first it freaked out on the first launch and broke a motor arm and now the flight controller stopped working. after i fix all that shit and get it reliably flying with the raspberry pi based video system ill try to get it to work with vr goggles and in the future i think i might put 2 independent video systems on it with 2 channels and try doing stereoscopic FPV, basically this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgmObWD0pvo
but with high quality digital video to a vr headset

>2x Lighthouse 2.0 - 260 bucks
>Index Controllers - 280 bucks
>Vive Tracker - 130 bucks

Was just doing the math for my own curiosity, but honestly seems like a better deal to build your own Index with a modern headset instead of sticking with the Valve package beyond it just werkin' out of the box. For not substantially more money, you get a better screen, wireless, and the ability to use it standalone if you're not at home while still being the same distance towards outside-in FBT and having finger tracking.

Low production volume because of lack of mass adoption means high prices. Valve learned the lesson with the Deck and just picked the closest to optimal screen that was in mass production for shitty tablets instead of doing things bespoke. There isn't a similar market for them to parasite off of the production infrastructure for the VR stuff, though.

But the biggest thing you're missing out on is its still a pain in the ass having a mixed setup even after all of these years. Thing keeping me from using my own quest is the 10 minutes of calibrating everything together and making sure it all works instead of just turning on my index just getting on VR.

as someone whos used slimeVR and haritorax before...dont waste your money. its horrible.

unless you plan on just using it sit or lay, its literally unusable. i do one 360 spin and my tracking breaks. i do one kick and my tracking breaks. constanty recalibration. have to use a personal mirror just to tell WHEN the tracking breaks (because otherwise you dont know and you just stand there looking stupid).

just do mixedVR and stick a tracker on the headset. it works great

bad tracking is more immersion breaking than no tracking at all IMO

Sometimes I forget that this is a contested issue. Modern fast charging brings it closer but internal battery is still a downgrade from rechargable AAs for me. They're cheap, have uses in other devices and I already own several pairs. If they run low while I'm ingame it takes 10 seconds to replace them. I've never had an 'oops I can't play anymore guys because I forgot to charge' moment that I occasionally hear from Index users.

NVENC does not operate on an efficiency basis for video streams, you can not compare flat files (video files, etc) to video streams. the latency that AV1 introduces is enormous, theres no possible way youre going to use av1 over x265 HEVC. i doubt meta will even offer it as an option without using ODT

Gradients banding, movement delay, high resolution complicated textures (grass, trees, etc) turning into non stereocorrect blurry mush, a lot of movement creating non stereocorrect blocky mess, slight bluriness/artifacting (also non stereocorrect) around text edges. Even when scene is good for h264 there is still slight weird bluriness/non stereocorrectness about it, which most streaming apps try to overcorrect with bitch basic sharpening filter which creates halos and other artifacting. The issue with the picture has already been mentioned, but in Ragnarock I couldn't hit any of the notes as the delay was unplayable at ~40ms. I have a 4090 and a wifi 6E router attached to my PC too. The last two are part of why I'm not so keen on a Quest, even if you can get a cumstained one second hand for $150. To get a Quest to work well you need to

>Buy a top of the line router
>Buy another headstrap
>Buy battery banks
>Juggle those battery banks while playing so you can play for more than two hours at a time
>Deal with third party calibration software to keep your trackers in line
>Buy another tracker to make the drifting less bad
>Buy third party streaming software as the default software sucks
>Fuck around with the software a lot to get either bad image quality with good latency or good image quality with bad latency

I don't spin around when I'm playing with a wired headset anyways, so I don't end up having to do any fuckery to make everything just werk.If the eternal two weeks ever passes and Valve has their take on wireless streaming I'll give that a whirl, but for Facebook PCVR is so obviously an after thought it's no wonder that all of this jank is involved for an ideal experience.

I unironically trust Meta more than Pico. Seriously, ask yourself this.

They're obviously selling the Pico 4 at a loss so how are they making their money back? Their standalone store is trash so they're obviously not making much money there, there's practically no accessories they can milk money off, and they don't have much presence on PC to milk money like how Meta has the Oculus Store.

So what goes Pico really gain from this?

>>448842114
Q3's new chip will be compatible with AV1 coder which allows for better latency and compression. It'll support Wi-Fi 6E too. Huge benefits PCVR heavily.

It offers an alternative option for better tracking with the Pro controllers. Benefits PCVR heavily.

Has a headphone jack which also benefits PCVR heavily.

Believe it or not, having proper passthrough with depth improves the PCVR experience because it means you can actually do PCVR software development with the headset on. Which is great for devs. For consumers, it motivates you to keep the headset on without having to take it off to do every small thing. For example, easily having a look at your phone. Drinking water, or maybe taking a piss. It has a depth sensor to give the best sense of depth for these things.

Also, I've seen various people on Twitter who tested the Quest 3 demo station at local electronic stores talking about how the lenses are a lot better than the Pico 4. Once again, another benefit for PCVR.

my nigga, this is literally wrong. AV1 increases latency.

wifi 6e doesnt help pcvr (as proven by the quest pro which has it) unless you already have congestion. aka only useful for apartment-cels.

The compromise you should make is that most shaders let you apply 2 matcaps at the same time using masks to determine what matcap affects what area. Due to this you are pretty much limited at combining textures that use the same matcap or combining 2 that use a matcap with 2 that don't and using masks.

Barbaria would honestly be my vote. I bought it when it came out, it was okay-ish tower defense/Clash of Clans/Dungeon Keeper mix but there wasn't much to do. But it was incredibly polished and while you had new things to do it was fun and combat was entertaining in the GORN over the top way.
Now I installed it again and it's basically completely new game, the devs keep pumping out new updates, free DLC, ranked seasons, balance patches, graphics got upgraded, you can put in custom music - there's enough to do that you can play daily and still have something to unlock or improve.
The base building is now pretty polished, you Lego together dungeon pieces with different layouts to make maze, invaders have to go through each piece and break its crystals, different pieces have different crystal placements and defense, you can upgrade the piece to get defensive mobs and more points to place more mobs and traps. It's fun, it's the closest thing we have to proper Dungeon Keeper sequel now.
So yeah, from that list I would vote for Barbaria simply because it's fun and the devs didn't leave it to rot like many other VR games.

Just recieved my EOZVR v2 feet and belt straps. They also gave me a little cloth bag that I can store them in.
They were sold out in EU a bit over 2 weeks back so I just bought them directly from eozvr.com in China. Build quality seems really nice. Not that fond of the choice of colors, but it is not like anyone is gonna see me use them.
Now I just need to buy the actual trackers, and somehow get my hands on some index controllers as my vive controllers are not comfy at all to use.

What was the name of a game with blonde girl on a beach? I remember seeing webms of it months ago where you peeked on her taking shower and she kicked you. Looked kinda similar to VR Kanojo. I searched a bit but the only thing I find is Summer Vacation but it has no lewd content so maybe that's a different game?

All three of those matter, so get them all as low as possible. Try to stay within VRC's medium performance ranking in terms of meshes, materials and VRAM and you should be okay. Lower is better though.

feet straps are bad, they go under your feet and make it feel bad to actually walk. they also wear out the velcro fast.

most FBT people attach their trackers to a spare pare of comfy shoes. makes it way easier to put on and off.

slimevr is absolutely awful. i used it for months. every fast movement would break it. trackers drift away on their own. i had to use a personal mirror just to monitor myself because the trackers would do whatever they wanted.

also slimevr kit is 450.....

2 basetations (new) = 300
3 3.0 trackers (new) = 380

thats only 280$ difference...in the longrun of VR thats nothing.

you cant recalibrate while sitting/laying down...you have to t-pose. which sounds easy but when its every 10 minutes (in my experience) and you have to use a mirror or be near a mirror...not fun.

the worst part of bad tracking is that when you decide to dance for example..you do one move and then your leg is 2 feet from where it should be. but you dont know this and you end up dancing for 2 minutes and looking like an idiot. or if youre just laying there chilling with your boyfriend and your chest tracker just teleports away. and you dont realize it. on vive tracking it resets itself, slimeVR you have to manually recognize it and get up and t-pose...not fun! and like i said, this is CONSTANT

the issue is i don't have a soldering iron, 3d printer or really anything else that'd be a requirement to create it. i've seen some people cut up tupperware boxes and stuff to contain them and a soldering iron is relatively cheap but still, very many hurdles to actually get to just putting the damn things together.

problem with facetracking is that 99.999% of vrchat avatars arent built for it...they can do "eyes left" or "eyes right" but it doesnt show a gradual movement it shows the eyes quickly darting to one side. and the mouths are "open" 'closed" or some small amount in between. compared to Meta horizons avatars that you can pucker the lips, move one side of your face, making kissy faces..etc..
Anonymous No.448980586 Replies: >>448981123
>>448980090
The problem is that facetracking is in no way standarized because theres only like 2 viable headsets for it and both use completely diffirent ways to implement it.

The best we have now is using VRCFT for OSC-based face tracking which just tells properly prepared avatar to move certain blendshapes in reaction to certain face motions

Yeah, this. I'd have it already if I didn't have to buy another headset for it.

I have a QP, bought a good base FT dlc, made some modifications to blendshapes/thresholds to add add to my own personality. Personally, wouldn't ever go back to gestures. Most FT usage is pretty cringe, and even most "polished" paid releases for common avatars are pretty bad out of the box. I know everyone will eventually have FT, but it's nice to enjoy the moment and dab on poorfags

its not bad the strap is pretty good at keeping it on your noggin, but right now it the pico 4 and the quest 3 will be the best dancing headsets by far due to being light weight and small.

quest pro gets honorary mention since its the best headset for not getting drenched in sweat due to being open bottom, but the clamp isnt great for dancing aggressively.

Alright motherfuckers it is that time of the week again! We have finally stepped into the spooky month, and as such, the looming urge to create spooky avatars will once again take hold over everyone. That is unless the booth PM massacre of creativity has fully sunk in, we'll see! This year appears to just be Halloween and nothing but that.

Phasmophobia will be played THIS Friday at 7pm PST 10pm EST. Ghost of tabor is fun, but there are actual ghost games to be playing during the spooky month.

I tried the tea for god demo. the main gimmick is it uses your playspace and generates an infinite maze arena inside it so you can just walk around naturally.

I recommend a wireless headset; although I didn't have too much trouble with my wired one; I did have to keep an eye on it though. And I recommend a decent playspace; and more importantly: a clear floor in your placespace with a little bit of elbow room around the outside edges. I was bumping into shit that was right at the edge of my playspace and there was something I kept hitting my foot on.
