How good is PCVR through the meta quest 3? I still have an original Vive and it's a pain the ass to use in my current apartment with the light stations, so I think i'm gonna get the quest 3 since I've wanted an upgrade for a while. I have a strong enough PC to do PCVR with the Vive (1070ti) and wanna be able to still play all my steamvr games but have been hearing information that link and airlink compress things before sending it to the quest, requiring more processing on the PC side which may be an issue since my GPU is getting a bit old.

You'd have to crank the resolution way down to get an acceptable frame rate, and there will be some streaming artifacts if you've ever watched a stream of something visually busy with a limited bit rate, but it will work.

there are barely any game lobbies happening in my timezone, and whenever they are, they either are games i don't own or have no interest in playing

Guess for anyone who cares, currently my quest 3 can run indefinitely off a 9v 2a power bank or charger as long as it can kick 18w you should be fine in full wireless through airlink or virtual desktop with the rez cranked up and 90fps. I haven't tried higher. Currently as far as I can tell there is no way to play wired pcvr and get more than maybe 2-3 hours even with a kuject link cable and an 18w charger. Dunno if this will be fixed at some point but this was the case even with the rez and fps turned notably down. I have a 20k anker brick and played for probably 12 hours yesterday without going dry.

I mean, on a base level it's stages like any other, play it's safe and you'll be happy. But Poland has lots of relatively straight, yet very bumpy sections, where taking big risks feels pretty natural until it bites you back. Half of Poland feels like narrower Finland, and Finland is hell compared to something with lots of tight, technical corners, like Greece or something.

It sure would be hard to DNF in Poland though.

A sim chair won't make you faster but it sure is fun. Makes for very shaky footage.

I'm entirely free of any kind of VR sickness, but I know some people who had it initially and DR/Assetto wasn't any worse for them compared to any other VR game. I guess motion sickness people may find some comfort in seeing car/horizon relative motion? It's probably less painful than it seems, though no promises. There are also stages that should be less shakey than others, DR has a motion sickness rating in menus to tell you which ones are safer and which ones are bumpier.

on the first 2 days of having the hmd I was completely wired and I was playing 6-8hrs at a time.
I've since switched to wireless and I don't have a good powerbank yet.
I can make it maybe 2.5 hours on powerbank and quest battery with 120fps/hand tracking on.
turned hand tracking off tonight but havne't tried it out yet to see if I get more battery
afaik since the meta branded cable is usb-c to usb-c it can transfer a little more power. the battery still drained while plugged in but it was very slow. haven't tried any 3rd party cables

Yeah just surprised it doesn't throw an error. My assumption was the vrca gets loaded into memory and doesn't care about the original file but apparently it keeps a write lock on the original file.
Unsure why they would, perhaps may even be an error from them never closing the file descriptor.

I'm guessing it's the cable but I've had several die before and it always shows signs like artifacts, sparkly pixels everywhere, audio cutting out. Rhis one visually looks perfect, but there's a lot of cables in the tether so I guess a bad one could be the bluetooth controller or something else for tracking. I think part of this is recency bias. Realistically the population is an order of magnitude larger now from 2018. When I check who's on during a weekday there are usually a few dozen people on in NA prime one the worst days and during the weekends it's usually 150-200 with Friday night being the peak at roughly 11-3 est. The number of people on every night on average is drastically higher, the difference is that less of the oldfags get on early and during weekdays because half of them are burned out and the other half tend to spend more time in discord with their long formed social groups playing other games because they went hard on vrc for several thousand hours already. The real problem if any is that many people myself included won't get on vr until peak hours or if one of their anchors is on. Many people having branched out to other groups over the years also means they probably live on orange permanently to avoid having someone from here join them and scream nigger when they're trying to hang out with their normie friends. We also kinda have a current lack of willing leaderfags that clean up instances because most of the older ones that were willing to keep instances clean no longer want to janny and they've been largely replaced by trash adjacent hosts that don't care and will let randos in largely unhindered. Covid gone also means people have to work again.

Play Pavlov Resurgence server. Streamlined tarkov experience with continuity so you can store you weapons, log off, and still have them in the vending machine when you come back. Parachute onto the island, get loot, get out. Non-combat zone in spawn so there's some really good vibes and friendly players chatting between raids. Also raid is perpetual so loot boxes will close on their own and new (the same) players keep pouring in. No npcs.

Open up Blender, buy or steal some assets from Booth, rip some assets from games, it's time to get world building. you have until December and the theme is winter, anything even vaguely winter themed is fine.
All skill levels are welcome. If you want to build everything from scratch, that's great, but if you want to use booth prefabs and just learn the basics, then that's okay too. There will be a hub world with portals so anyone can visit the worlds at any time but for the event itself the host will have pre-favourited the worlds so they can drop friends+ portals

I've been medium or poor rank for years, but with booth assets becoming higher quality my base inches closer and closer to a higher poly count without an outfit attached already.
Should I just accept being verypoor on poly alone? I'm so used to optimizing but it feels like nobody else does it unless it's for an event.
Lots of booth assets send me into the 70k poly count, usually around 100k+ and decimating/removing parts loses the quality.

I can convert any of my booth models (it's mostly selestia) to medium rank even, I don't think it's hard at all and if you know how to decimate and delete skin under clothes that won't be visible it is quite easy to reach that perf. rank while not making the stuff look bad.

I haven't touched VRchat in a few years but no, VRchat has always run like shit. Your GPU is fine - you didn't say what CPU you have but even if it's decent, VRchat will still run like ass regardless because it only utilizes a single core. When you have a bunch of people in a session, it gets exponentially worse, and even more so because so many people bypass the poly count limit for their avatars and some use unoptimized shaders. Upgrading your GPU won't change anything. Getting a CPU with faster single core power might help, but I wouldn't count on it.

That's why I'm so surprised the thing broke so quick. The cables, when not in use, are coiled on a hangar on the wall. So, how did it break? They pulled the plug on the Quest Pro, the Pico 4 Pro has the usual chinkshit issues and is hard to obtain outside China, and the HP Reverb G2 Omnicept also got the plug pulled on it. I think you can still get one but it will be tough. But at least it ain't wireless.
I'm pretty sure the Varjo Aero supports eye tracking and uses lighthouses, but the FoV is bad and it doesn't come with builtin headphones or a mic, so you need your own headphones and a modmic. I'd honestly get one if it weren't for the FoV.

I might just use the spacers for the eyelashes touching the lenses but that's not my main issues. I've never read anywhere else of people having issues with moistures constantly pouring out of tear duct and causing stains like this in the corners. Is there any good skyrimVR mods now? I tried it briefly at launch but weapons having no weight or being physically affected by the world around you (It just goes straight through walls and objects) killed the interest.

VRIK gives you a proper body and I'm pretty certain the weapons can't go through walls with it. Has a hoslter system on every bodyparts that you can tweaks and also support gestures for shout/buffs/equip shortcuts.
HIGGS for grabbing stuff, everything should be affected by physics now as per a recent update.
PLANCK for better grab physics on actors, some of them even ragdoll instantly if they're below a certain HP threshold. Makes whacking on enemies feels much better since it looks like they're flinching with your weapon strikes.
Spell Wheel VR for a basic customizable radial menu.
Magic Improvement which improves spells by letting you change the offset of where they come from. I set up mines so it comes out of my palms. When dual casting you bring both hands together and it merges your spells and then averages your controller positiong for aiming similar to 2handing a gun in VRFPS.
Weapon Throw VR, pretty self explanatory. You can change the velocitiy required, damage, stamina requirement and all that stuff. There's auto-returns settings as well if you're feeling lazy.
Simple Realistic Archery VR, unequip your arrows every time you shoot so you need to fetch one from your back quiver every time. Simple but immersive.
Pseudo Physical Weapon Collision and Parry, proper weapon collision when fighting dudes. You can easily parry blows now if both blades make contact. A bit unbalanced with how easy it is but great nontheless.

Probably a bunch of others I've forgot like removing the entire hud and shifting it to other places like having your ressources bars as jewerly on your wrists and stuff, but the point is there's no reason to play the unmodded game since it's really that awful.

Yeah. It's not like there is much in the way of VR RPGs to compete with it. Asgard's Wrath is kinda mid, Fallout 4's mods don't go as far, and Morrowind doesn't have any dedicated VR mods. Then it's a bunch of "roguelikes" or "experiences" with maybe four hours of content.

I say this as someone who loathed Skyrim when it came out due to the boring quests. Nowadays I can play the game in VR and install something like Enderal or Clockwork and ignore all the vanilla content I beat ten years ago.

My condolences. It is perhaps the most unstable/fragile VR headset out there.

The V1 cable doesn't work on AMD systems unless you use a powered USB-hub like a PCIE card.

The V2 Cable fixes this but is extremely fragile- if you raise the headstrap and bend the cable at all where it connects to the headset, you are at risk of damaging it.

There's photos of the wiring and it's a fucking mess in there, no way to ever repair it.

then there's the software. you can have everything working like I did for literal years (bought mine back in 2021) and then one say WMR will suddenly decide to reject your headset and save reinstalling windows you cannot fix it.

When the G2 came out it was a strong competitor solely because of its visual clarity. It's why it's been popular with flightsimmers this whole time.

Now that the Q3 is out and appears to be able to match that clarity, I am going to switch to it once the post-launch problems are resolved.

Some people tried, and thursday exploration succeeded (mostly). The two big things keeping meetups down right now in all timezones is pointless drama and flat game discord bullshit. The recent influxes of trannies, furries, trashfags and spoonfed randos love stirring drama and for some people this can kill their motivation to get online.
And of course if people don't get on until after midnight, the "time to get on" times slowly march later and later until people just stop getting on altogether. If you consider yourself an "anchor" of any friend circle, get on at a set time every night and stick to it. It's reversible.

The rest of us both in EU and NA are used to world explorations/hangouts during the weekdays, big instances and smaller side-instances on weekends. Now everyone is split up and everyone wants to make their own instances, which results in a gazillion 16-person instances or a fuller instance that isn't vrg and is thus filled to the brim with randos.
I still get on every friday and saturday but I don't consistently get on every weekday anymore. Usually not too hard to kickstart something though.

There are still plenty of great or amazing weekends, but sometimes the weekends are middling these days. SOMETHING in October 2022 caused a bit of a dropoff in the consistency of people getting on, and it seems things haven't recovered on their own yet. These things go up and down, just stick with it.
