Finished Lone Echo II. Really good game, very high quality. I think Half Life Alyx will have a hard time being as good. Probably its only chance is mechanical prowess. Lone Echo II managed to be fun and engaging without shooting or killing, which is something not many games can achieve, at least in my experience

Ending up feeling pleasantly surprised by Altdeus: Beyond Chronos, not usually one for visual novels but even with barely any proper VR interactions the format is a ton more engaging in VR and makes me realize how few VR games actually give a fuck about a good story that's also decent length. I wish we had more stuff like this now, being inside the narrative makes it easier to get attached quicker.

Damn, do I sure feel it being a slightly prettied up Quest 2 port though. The anime style helps not make the simple look appear too bad, but textures are PS1 tier on anything that's not a character model and half the environments are pretty basic.

It's full golf, I use an attachment and have a blast, my mistakes in real golf mimic my mistakes in the game and I've gotten to be a better golf player by playing it. The putting feels a good deal different, but the greens being simulated in golf+ play different than putt-putt greens. If you like golf, or think you could like it, it's quests killer app and my most played game
Expensive though because you either buy a subscription for courses or buy them absent the few that come with it. A lot of courses you can play on without owning, some modes put you on a random course owned or not for example. But I pay $80 a year for full access for example
My most played mode is battle mode which uses stored ghost player data for you to compete against so you aren't waiting for a real match

The controls are good. You use little touch screens on your wrist to switch modes and summon vehicles. You pull out your multi tool from your shoulder and can switch scanning modes by holding your hand to your head. The main caveat is that it tries to keep you in the center of your playspace, but you can get the VR warning disabled to disable that. Also the jetpack thrust direction is hand based rather than head based like your regular movement which is weird.

At least for something like melee and waggle, I think we can have a middle ground here. Despite how short and on rails the experience was, I think something like Vader Immortal, if sped up a bit so it feels like there's more variation, makes melee feel satisfying without needing to put in a bunch of tiring effort since you have to block and counter, but if you're quick enough you can sneak in a hit or two between making an opening. Hell, even Zenith did a similar thing that was 'decent' for longer player.

Until You Fall also did a pretty good job at avoiding waggle melee mechanics but still making the melee feel good with you needing to slash at specific spots.

It doesn't have the same freedom of something that's physics based, like B&S, or 2D games with how complex combo strings can get to force an opening, but I thought games like those has fairly well designed melee or just needed a few tweaks. I think it's a good middle ground that while it may not feel quite as great as full physics or 1:1 models/speed, it's less tiring for long sessions and still is 'good enough' to stay engaging for longer periods.

I feel the same way about Until You Fall. It still has physics too, you can't swing a battle axe around as fast as a dagger which gives weapons their own niche. It isn't just Beat Saber. It gets actually hectic when multiple enemies gang up on you and wizards start shooting spells at you too. Would it though? There's a reason why the single player shooters of previous console generations became such a ridiculed genre, and why fast paced movement shooters have seen such a massive comeback. Yes? Because when you (properly) make something in VR it changes how you interact with the game world and what works in one medium is not the same for others. You don't need the same kind of inventory menus in VR when you can do something like have physical holsters on your body for weapon swapping. Your example has nothing to do with VR. Pressing one button to aim with a controller and then another button to shoot is boring an unengaging, no shit you add lots of movement to engage the player with more buttons is going to be popular. But it isn't like being able to physically aim your weapons or reload then. You're no longer bound by something like the speed of an animation for raising or reloading your gun, you can compensate(To an extend) for recoil better, and it being completely inside the world with that sense of depth and able to interact with it in a 3D space, instead of just using a controller that doesn't even feel remotely like a gun handle and doing what amounts to point and click on a screen, makes for a much different experience. There's more which goes into even just aiming and shooting that makes it far more engaging than any pure shooting will ever be in flatscreen.

Alyx is a great, if slow, VR game but an awful flatscreen game if you ported it to play like a traditional FPS because of that. Somebody did exactly that and it wasn't good.

it depends on the game, and what resolution you decide to run it at.
The resolution presets in Virtual Desktop are pretty much the same between Quest1, Quest2, and Quest3, so the performance will be about the same as any of those headsets, using the same preset.
So much of the difference is just having more pixels to project that rendered image onto.

4070 leaves a bit to be desired in the vram department, but the price jump for the 4080 is down right unreasonable, so it is what it is.

How far are you? I only got to play a couple hours tonight, getting back in from a weekend at the in laws so I'm getting a late start. I have a couple issues with the game, I really hate how floaty the combat is, the throwing mechanics vs something like dungeons of eternity which absolutely nails throwing weapons, how your hands and arms can clip through walls or objects, but man am I thrilled to be playing something otherwise this polished in VR. With chains and stuff unless they're changing areas with loading you can climb manually, the rags wrapped around are fast travel toggles so you reach around or above/below them to reach the ladder/chain. Hope I explained that. I'm also having trouble with counters but they're getting more consistent so I think it's something we'll improve at with time. No. Maybe for dirt cheap but solo is not a great experience. The bots are bad even after being buffed, they really can't handle bosses so you're nearly soloing them. Compression and latency from streaming, but it's negligible with the right setup. You're not going to want to play rhythm games over it though, so you'd be stuck with standalone versions of those.

The hardware isn't actually compatible, you need separate software to run a hybrid setup and sync playspaces but that only matters if you're using FBT. Plenty of people do that though, so it's pretty well documented.

Yeah it's so weird. There's almost really no value in -armor items anymore since you can't stack it easily imo. And people have more option having more armor. The revenant brooch needing boat loads of mana per attack as well hard caps it for int carries or maybe just dagger PA waiting for a deadly focus proc before toggling it in for a magical critical hit for 75 mana.

I've never felt any real issue with the latency on Q2 wireless, I've played Ragnarok, Beatsaber, Pavlov just fine.

I've seen people tout latency as a big upside for the Index VS Quest which seemed to make sense to me, you'd assume streaming would be much worse, but then I see people saying rhythm games are unplayable and that steaming puts you at a massive disadvantage in VRFPS which doesn't seem to line up with what I have experienced. Then just recently I saw someone post the latency of the Index and even at 144hz it's only barely faster than streaming on VD, Index is 29ms and VD is around 30-40ms depending on streaming settings. There's no way 40ms is 'unplayable' but then 30ms is magically the perfect latency. So are these numbers not correct? Are people just talking out of their ass? Are people getting tricked by placebo? What am I missing here?

You're going to be CPU bound for fucking sure at that clock, especially if it starts throttling, given my old i5-4670k could barely keep above 45fps in anything modern while sitting at 100% usage. Finally replaced it with a 7800X3D build a couple months back.

Source? I get ~12 ms with my Quest Pro and it's still noticeably slower than may Bigscreen. I assume that's standard input latency is added to the VD number.
