Index itself is dated but most importantly basestations tracking is going the way of dodo. HTC is slowly winding down production of 2.0 stations and 3.0 trackers since they're switching all of their enterprise customers to self-tracked shit, all basestation tracked HMDs outside Pimax and Varjo (and that's optional addon only) are out of production and Valve itself stopped production.
Buying basestation tracked HMD and controllers is like buying WMR headsets, sure it works for now but there's quite literally no future.

Most people start from pre-existing models, which is fine. I'd still recommend at least redoing the textures to be more you. Tried Kiwi Comfort Strap and KKCOBVR Halo strap.
I tried looking for facial interfaces but the only other 3rd party ones is a iphone 3d scanned one that cost 90 bucks a pop.
On the kiwi I velcro strapped my battery at the back to counterweight but it doesn't fix the core issue.
Either the face gasket push in my forehead, nosebridge or cheeks. I literally got pimple explosion on my cheeks because of this fucking headset. Haven't had any since I was a fucking teenager 15yrs ago.

I recommend giving the BoboVR M3 or S3 Pro a try for the strap. The hotswap battery gives a good counter weight and the strap itself is comfortable. You can also choose to wear it without a facial interface too like pic related.

I got btfo in /vrg/ Pavlov for about 2 years before I could finally compete. Doesn't help that the good players would either outright refuse to help, or would give completely the wrong advice. I suspect the latter wasn't intentional and was a result of having internalized the fundamentals so far that they weren't even consciously aware of them any more. The former however, seemed unaware that they'd be left with no-one to play against with that attitude, but almost none of them play any more anyway. Maybe they were fully intending for it to be a pump and dump where they could absolutely destroy other players for a while before quitting.

All that happens is you join, die, wait 5 minutes, then do it again. Do it for two hours where you learn nothing then come back in two weeks to do it all again. At least in games where you respawn you can start to learn more about the maps and mechanics but these "tactical shooters" even going into games like siege and counter strike need so much more time investment. Pavlov requires playing proactively, not reactively. You need to predict what other players are doing. If you're surprised all the time then you're going to lose. You need to listen to sound, try to figure out where players are and have been, and where you are likely to see them. Contractors on the other hand isn't round based, so you can't predict much.
