For some reason when I calibrate all the controllers with OpenVR SpaceCalibrator, it sets the vive controllers to be my main controllers even though I'm using the quest HMD. How hard is it to make a VR mod for flat games? Morrowind, which was released in 2002 has a perfect VR mod. But Fallout 3 and New Vegas have nothing. Are there guides online on how to make VR conversion mods?

Those two are my top favorite games and I'd love to play them in VR. (vorpx and depth3d are ultra lame).

It depends on the game. Or rather, it depends on the game's engine. For stuff like F3/NV, the engine is an absolute mess that will probably never have VR support ever.
Check out the UEVR project; they basically patch the UE4 (UE5 too?) engine to 'support' VR. And by that, the hurdle of getting the game to render in a VR headset at all. Not motion controls or UI elements or anything like that, but it is fully possible to add that all in once the groundwork has been done.

Especially Arma, where every button on the keyvoard is for a different thing, with a lot of different menus. Simply slapping on a VR camera isn't enough and even "simple" games like cyberpunk struggle with that (you can't really use your hands there, for example).

For a game to get a proper (aka non shit) VR mod the engine must:
a) Either be VR-compatible already, like Unity (Valheim) or UE4 (Deep Rock Galactic, UEVR)
b) Be open source (Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Jedi Outcast/Academy)
c) Have a decent open source clone engine (Morrowind, Half-Life 1, Tomb Raider 1).
Sadly the only Bethesda games with c are Daggerfall (Daggerfall Unity) and Morrowind (OpenMW). There are some videos of people loading Fallout 3/New Vegas assets in OpenMW but an actual port would take many years, if ever done.
The exceptions to that rule have been the Portal 2 and Half-Life 2 VR mods, but I think those got some support from Valve so maybe they let them see the code or they just used one of the many Source 1 engine code leaks.

Good news and bad news: The index is still a top headset. Bad news: It's still a top headset.

Other headsets have far outclassed it in terms of screen, but the index got so many other things right it's hard to put it down as a real headset. If it was updated with a better screen it would be the top headset. If it was given eye/face tracking as well and also wireless, it would be untouchably good.

As it stands, I recommend a quest 3 unless there's something you want out of the lighthouse system.

I think the omnithrottle would be cool for space sim but that's about it. Def not needed for MW5. As for sims where you get two engines then you're better off getting a throttle with two levers but that's probably too much money for what it's worth.
Grab the premium version for your right stick btw. The few buttons it adds are worth it I think.
