Yea, it wasn't 24 but more like 18 megapixels (3000x3000 per eye), I forgot I downsampled a bit

Train world made the 99 percentile a bit worse though, you can see the second shallow peak on the histogram

We're running R4 cars in Portugal. Shorter stages, more repair zones - enjoy a somewhat easier event, as long as you keep your pace in check. It's a set of pretty stages, too, always nice to drive through some villages and enjoy some sights every time you have a millisecond to spare to look around you.

Mostly helps if you have issues caused by interference since there's barely any devices using it.
WiFi 6 on 5GHz can technically get you the same bandwidth, but if you have any other devices using that, you'll have at least a little interference. It's not enough to cause any major issues in my case, but I could probably push higher bitrates on 6E.

Thoughts on the Play For Dream MR headset? ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playfordream/play-for-dream-where-dreams-inspire )

This would be my first headset. I think I'll play some VR games from time to time, but I'm also very interested in the idea of having a computer strapped to my face H24 with the ability to have as many screens as I want anywhere I want. I think 4K would play a huge part in reading comfort, the only thing more important being varifocal lenses, which AFAIU are still at the very least a couple of years away from hitting the market.
I know I could buy a Vision Pro and likely have a better user experience, but I'd like to build software for the headset from a linux headset and VisionOS doesn't let you do that AFAIU. But the Play For Dream having a custom chinese android OS doesn't inspire much confidence either.

Good evening /vrg/. Today I spend the afternoon reverse engineering Index Controller Part "R2" (small piece in pic related). After receiving a controller for a joystick repair, I used it to gather measurements for reverse engineering of "R2". This part hold the head of the index controller to the grip on the left side of the right controller. If there is a noticeable gap and the head can move somewhat it is most probably because "R2" has cracked. Now I do like Valves controllers for their many inputs, but I cannot agree with their design methodology. "R2" is made of a brittle plastic, if the user puts their weight on to the controller to get up from a prone, the plastic will snap. This seems like one of the many over-sites of the Index Controller design. This really doesn't cause much issue but I've been having problems with tracking. So I thought I'd try to fix this to see if it will help. I 3D printed a replacement piece out of PLA. I don't think it will be much stronger but it will hold it together. I did have to cut it down with side cutter to make it fit better. I do not recommend doing this yourself unless you have DIY autism or are able to fit through pain and suffering. There are many delicate parts to the controllers. And to get to "R2" I had to use unorthodox methods of hole widening, finger pinching, plastic bending, tweezers holding and other unholy things to make the 3D printed piece work. Still not sure if this will work yet but it currently holds.

NTA but why don't you just use hand tracking then if you're not going to use the controllers? You can toggle off "Track Controllers" in VD's settings so they wont appear in SteamVR, and then you can just use handtracking to control VD. I assume you're using Index controllers with Quest Pro w/ SteamVR correct?

I have no issues with Continuous Calibration taking time to sync, it launches instantly with SteamVR and starts calibrating itself from last time.

LTCGI OBLITERATED performance on every one of my maps I added them to.
Getting rid of LTCGI has resulted in a huge increase in FPS again even in my maps that only had one video player source.
I strongly recommend against using LTCGI in your map. It looks impressive but it's clearly super unoptimized.
Looks like it's back to Bakery & combining Enlighten with real-time GI for video player emissions, although I'm not even positive that works anymore in Unity 2022.

There is around a 41 fps difference, in an instance populated only by myself.

How many materials do you have receiving the light effects? Per https://ltcgi.dev/Advanced/Performance_Optimization , you might have to atlas more of your map together into a single material, especially stuff that you want affected by the screen glow.

eh, unity realtime GI was pretty heavy too. IIRC it cost like 6ms/frame to recalculate, so I had my maps only update every 10 frames or so to keep the hitching manageable.

Apparently you can still use enlighten GI in 2022: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/GI-Enlighten.html but it's hidden by default now. The bake times will be slow as shit compared to the new lightmapper, plus you'll have to deal with the other weird artifacts of enlighten, but if you need realtime emissions, I guess it's still possible.

The GPU advice is always: As much as you can afford. VR headsets are a LOT of pixels and that simply takes a lot of horsepower; as well as VRAM.
16GB VRAM minimum nowadays. Plus no AMD cards because their VR support is lackluster. Some people get their AMD cards to work just fine but every time they stop using an AMD card theyre like 'oh I don't have to fuck around all the time what the hell'.
