This year, we’re turning up the excitement with our Costume Showcase!
Throughout the event, during the short breaks between DJ sets, three(3) standout avatars will be highlighted on stage per set, with 27 costumes showcased per instance. Our Dementors will be roaming the event, keeping an eye out for jaw-dropping costumes to bring up to the stage for a moment of glory, where our announcers will give you the spotlight, just like in a high-energy fashion show!

Re-Hashed Halloween Costume Contest

As it's a free weekend and close to Halloween, what better thing to do than re-hash last years map to do a Halloween outfit contest before the DJ event. Show off whatever you've been working on this year, or maybe something from the previous years that you particularly liked. So far on 2/3 judges so if we're still down one I'll grab someone from the crowd like the idol contest. I only envisage this lasting an hour or two at most, and when we're done (and if you really want to I can tally up scores) we can start hopping worlds and terrorising TDAs or just find somewhere to plonk down with a beer.
The scores and format are the same as last year's: Cuteness Spookiness and Creativity are arbitrarily score; the line behind the judge to get on stage; the seat system to get plonked on stage with all the cameras (though you're free to hop on stage when it's your turn, especially with a group); and some time to do a little skit. Total time on stage is two minutes, including the entry animation and 30 seconds per judge for comments, so keep it short and sweet. I'll explain it on the day and throughout.

If you've got a performance you want to do on stage do not ride the chair, just jump on stage when it's your turn.

We're running a 5-event long WRC2 class championship. Events change every two weeks - Central Europe is now open, until November 7. Every stage ends with a long service area, nearly no 35km+ stages, three stages per event, full championship ends on December 5.

I do use the humanoid IK hip as a reference position for the squid hip so I can move it around easily, but it doesn't otherwise rely on an avatar rig at all.
Locomotion is all handled by rigid bodies finding the floor underneath each leg and world constraining that position until it moves too far away, at which point an animation blends it to the next position. There's some extra considerations like preventing adjacent legs from moving at the same time, an inverted physbone to track forward in the direction the squid is moving so the running looks more natural, and leg spread based on squid height from floor.
I have also discovered a newfound hatred for both unity and vrchat. Dear god how broken everything is.

It's way better than any "wireless" we have today. Zero latency, giant bandwidth, custom codec instead of h264, so didn't have any visible compression artifacts, can retransmit USB. It was the way to go. Chinese also made something similar with TP-Cast - fully standalone modules for OG Rift and Vive to send barely compressed HDMI and USB over 60 Ghz. It was the shit.

I still use the vive wireless with a vive pro eye to this day, and when it works its amazing, but holy shit it is buggy and moody...

The vive pro is a buggy mess, the wireless adapter is a buggy mess.

Problems include:
Vive mic suddenly pitches your voice up or down

screens go black having to reset the wireless, this also breaks the mic in VRC, forcing you to have to use voicemeeter to reset audio every time it disconnects.

Eye and Facial tracking is the moodiest of them all, holy shit what a piece of shit software the sranipal runtime is. A lot of the time the only way to get it working again is a complete system reboot, and even then it might not work. As a side note, the facial tracker as of recently just stopped working on wireless 95% of the time.

I could go on and on...

It is a definitive do not buy sadly. HTC can not make software for the life of them, all of its half baked pos.

As I get deeper into my 30's I can feel myself normifying more. Getting drunk isn't worth the all-day hangover the next day. Headpats and ERP seem less appealing and I'd rather just date IRL. When I attend family gatherings, I see my siblings and cousins talking about everything they're doing in their lives, some of them even have spouses and children now. When I'm asked what I've been up to, I'm tired of either lying, saying "uhhh, not much", or god forbid telling some of the truth and seeing that thousand-yard stare. I used to be very close to my family and as I get older (and see them getting older), that's becoming even more important to me.
I'm thankful for the experiences VR has given me and the friends I've made, but the living the VR lifestyle is just less appealing to me now. Online friends are great, but if society were to collapse tomorrow and the Internet shut off, I would have nobody who cares about me within a 750 mile radius. I have nobody nearby to help me move, to water my plants if I travel, or to play any of the dust-covered board games I used to collect back when I had an IRL social life.
That spark that made me fall in love with VR and make it my entire life has been fading, and I don't know if I'll ever have a feeling like it again.

Headstrap is non optional, dunno why Zucc cheaped out on it and the mic so hard. I would also say a battery pack is essential, but you can get one that just goes in your pocket instead of one especially for the Quest and attached the headset. I also grabbed the Kiwi sleeves to give the controllers knuckles since I loved them on my Index.

You also should look at the Q3 now instead of waiting. When they announced the Q3S, they dropped the price on the 500gb which meant they discontinued the 128gb which means you can get it for like 400 as a factory refurb.

According to G, music festivals are supposed to have a long line up of DJs and very long.
The original plan was a 10 hr instance even. But we've gotten feedback to reduce it a lot.
Can't change it now 30 mins is locked in now. Except for EU which has 45 mins each still
If this goes well and anons like it we may go for a new set next year. And maybe change it into a multi-day one is better so friday and saturday with 4-5 DJ's each doing 1hr each.

I specifically said that I'm bummed out about the times being announced and then changed, instead of the times being really discussed and considered during the planning stage.
It sets a precedence of an "announcement" for an event merely being something of things that may or may not be happening - who knows, nothing is set in stone.
Instead of being an announcement you can actually work with.
By now, the announcement had changed the schedule twice - which tells me pretty clearly that things weren't as clear cut behind the scenes.
An easy solution for this would have been to simply announce the date and starting time. The lineup or DJ schedule could have either been revealed step by step or done a week before. This would minimize confusion and resentment for YET ANOTHER change.

For future, feelers for events need to go out a bit before anything concrete to test the waters. Don't have to reveal everything but just a general time, theme and activity which also builds anticipation. I know a 9th of November event was being talked about for a while before the big announcement post but nobody really knew much about it, especially with no traditional Halloween contest this year a lot of people didn't get around to making a new outfit.

I recruited judges for the first few costume events to be funny in a the scores don't matter and the points are all made up kind of way. I picked judges based on how entertaining they would be and always instructed them to be funny and not take a long time.

A lot of the costume events that came after seemed to have missed the point there and scores and winners started being taken seriously. I don't think they should!

Fair point, I've just been wearing my outfit since I got a base version prepped since late October in normal instances and other hangouts like LOCO and weekend stuff. It provides a place to strut your stuff and I was being a bit pushy to get people on stage that I thought had something at least to show, whether it's a booth outfit they liked or an amazing showcase like the winners this year. People who didn't want to come didn't, I don't think we even hit 40 people for a Saturday night so there were plenty of others doing their own thing and having a good time somewhere else.

Slime trackers and their offshoots are like 300 bucks, but you need to wear a whole 6 set of them, and they drift all the time.

Yeah this mainly, and it provides some background noise for people who just want to chat and hang out with friends. Without judges I can't exactly exepect someone to come up with a two minute routine on the spot to an audience that might not be that receptive or proactive. These judges knew how to engage with the talent as well, getting them to show off any features and prompting them with questions that other anons can listen in on during pauses in their conversations. It's true that the judges were highly biased around people I knew who could fill the role well and I asked around a bit to find suitable candidates. But hard to find people two days prior to commit their Saturday night like that and they were under enough pressure themselves.

Complicated setup anon here, I finally made my low watt Beelink SER5 Pro Mini PC setup with an eGPU rtx 3060 work with my quest 3 in pcvr. All I really needed was a dedicated wifi 6 router (AX1500) rather than relying on the shitty wifi card that was included inside the mini pc which probably was slowing things down. Vrchat and other games runs and plays plays great on this so far despite being a lower powered rig.

Pretty fun. It’s a good adaptation of Arkham combat to VR controls instead of trying to actually be physics based. Unlike FPS games where manipulating the gun and mags is a large part of the fun, a brawler like this is just fine with triggering animations that don’t line up with what you’re actually doing.

Be sure to check the 802.11 standards and speeds, or if it is branded as "wifi 6"

...but if you are using a cable then wireless doesn't matter. It's one or the other. Wireless is more convenient, but cable is cheaper and more consistent in its performance.

Depends on the head strap you buy and the shape of your head. If you can comfortably wear both at once, there is no reason not to.

The Quest3 /is/ pretty good, but only if you can get your eyes right up in there, which is probably not happening with the stock facial interface, even at the nearest setting.
Remove the facial interface and see how close you can get without it. If it improves the experience, consider getting a halo strap to go facial-interface-free, or look at other facial interfaces.
With the stock facial interface it's honestly a very mid experience.

I actually use slime vr and it’s pretty good. I use it now rather than my vive trackers because it works with quest environment without needing hybrid tracking.
It takes a bit of getting used to on setting it up and knowing to recalibrate by double tapping your chest slime tracker from time to time.

under streaming, on the lower righthand side. enable "forward tracking data" and then check the box for "emulate vive trackers"
it works okay for elbows and that's about it. the chest/legs are just based on where your head and arms are afaik
