Thought I fixed that when I updated the in an hour part, but in case anyone is confused, it is actually tonight.

Once again posting the WIP rec list changes and asking for some help. Expect to see this for a while before it's finalized and thrown into the existing list.

So far I've touched up a few of the reviews, split up a few of the categories, and added a few of the games being hosted to the list. I also removed a lot of stuff that either needs updated details, doesn't seem relevant anymore, or is broken.
I need some help determining which of the (currently) removed games need to stay and which new games need to be added to the list.
If you want something added and you have a decent case for it, just write a small bit about it and I'll throw it in. I'll try to do some more updates on my own, but assume for now that anything outside of the WIP list that doesn't get vouched for won't make the cut.

I've been thinking about Unreal Tournament a lot lately after listening to its music at a loco thursday instance once and it saddens me I was born even something like 6 years too late to enjoy its golden era. I finally took the train pill and played some derail valley in VR and it was a great experience. The S282 steam locomotive felt incredible to drive and it was so comfy to ride around at night with the lantern behind me. I have no idea why some or one person are butthurt it found some success selling as a flat game. I didn't get a feel VR got left behind at all as everything felt like it had good enough VR control but I might just have low standard.

On the contrary, I felt like the VR controls eclipsed the flat screen experience being able to look behind with a hand on the brake or having your tools and maps around on shelves instead of opening the menu every times you want to use them felt delightful.

So I just got a Meta Quest 3. What are some fun RPG's I can play on this thing? I don't have a lot of room, so stationary preferred.

About to drop money on a Quest 3 as my first VR gear, planning on using it to run VR games from my PC at first, should I worry about any of the accessories like the battery strap or the link cable?

Quest 3 is a very good first headset.
For PCVR, it's recommended to use Virtual Desktop (paid) or Steam Link (free) to stream the PCVR games to the headset. It's also recommended to use wifi to do so but you will need a good router and good signal to it. A cable will do but you will have trouble keeping the headset charged.

As for the PC; the CPU is fine although the x3D series are massive upgrades
The GPU should be okay but it's on the weaker side.

When it comes to system requirements for VR, a quest 3 is 2064x2208 pixels per eye. That's more than a 4k monitor. Not even a 9800X3d + 5090 is truly enough.

You need 300 megabits AT LEAST, it cannot have dropouts below. Wireless streaming is a play between latency and graphical fidelity. Quest has a hard limit how much bandwith it can decode, around 500 megabits, but that increases latency to noticable when you need to aim guns fast. Below 300 any grass or foliage in view makes it all smeary. Below 100 very smeary, hut the latency becomes somewhat closer to display port connectiion.

So, can your router provide stable 300 megabit connection from your gaming pc to VR area? Use phone and copy some files off your pc through wifi and check.

You might find it more comfortable to get an after market strap and just a battery pack to put in your pocket instead of strapping it to your head. It's less weight and momentum moving around at the cost of not having the battery to help counterbalance the torque of having all the weight at the front, which is personal taste. I use a Kiwi strap and then a brick powerbank that I also use when traveling for my phone. I think the BoboVR is also highly recommended if you prefer a halo type strap while Kiwi is more traditional and akin to an Index. Both offer battery and unpowered style straps, and both are a way better choice then the official Meta brand stuff

Get a proper wired headset for sims. You DONT want your vision becoming mush because foliage and grass is in view. (Or tons of missile trails in AC/PW) Buying vr for UEVR injector only is a very bad choice. Its a framework, but not a final product, its annoying, buggy and finicky.

Just play vtolvr, PW and DCS instead, and get a PSVR2 or Vive Pro 2.

Is there any feasible way we will get the actual VR experience in the next 10 years or so? It feels like we are so close but no one is actually making great strides in any direction. Why don't we have open source standards for things like haptic suits yet? Stuff like that. There is just zero coordination or cooperation between hardware and software it seems. The Beyond isn't easily consumer accessible. I think if you're aiming to export to a unity humanoid rig, the rigify extension for blender still works and has a lot of tutorials for the whole process. Less error-prone than drawing the bones yourself.

I doubt it will be so strict but you get 12 free scans with polycam (as long as you're signed into an account, easy with iphone/appleid). You can always throw something jank together like I did. One note after working on this, make it t-posed, easier to craft and less janky of a rig. I won't be surprised if I have to go back and rerig this after straightening the arms.

I assuem you named your bones proper names like UpperArm_L and UpperArm_R
Find the fbx file click on that and "configure" or "open" button your avatar. and then drag and drop the correct bone into the correct slot in the rigging area.
Do not add a jaw bone since your avatar doesn't have that, nor fingers.

Create a new avatar project via vcc for unity, drag the fbx in, as well as the texture png. Select the prefab, in model check Read/Write, then in rig set it to humanoid. Drag the prefab and rightclick>prefab>unpack completely. Open the armature and make sure the spine and legs are parented to the hips. Then go back to the prefab>rig, click 'configure', and make sure all the bones are in their slots. Add an avatar descriptor component to the model you unpacked, go to the vcc control panel and click auto-fix wherever it appears, then build and test. If all goes well it should just werk
