today's meme game jam progress. I have almost an actual gameplay loop. Like the original flash game (auditorium), you have a bunch of glowing particles flowing around, and you move around some spheres that affect the field that the particles follow. If you get the field to hit all the targets (the glowing boxes in my case), you win.

I took a glance at the source. Looks, ehhhh, alright I guess?
Main differences:
They use renderpass and render views separately.
I use dynamic rendering with multiview.
They use simplex noise in fragment on fullscreen quad.
I use vertex particles with basic solid color fragment shader, which makes them harder to run, might be noticeable on weak hardware or extremely high res rendering resolutions.

The change the color based on controller velocity, while controller is moved the color is changed. Extremely simple, but might be ok. Dunno what linear velocity noisy input sources report, they might be fucked, or maybe not.

Their implementation is even closer to the purely synthetic benchmark than mine, they don't even bother with correct eye projections, but that might be fine.
If they don't bottleneck at the fragment shader, the results shouldn't differ from mine too much.

Works for me on some games where alvr+steam doesn't, which are the only games I use it for. The openxr runtime it uses seems to be better than the pile of dung that steam uses.
It has less options, no steam overlay and only works for openxr games. Somewhat annoying is that you have to start WiVRn first, connect from the headset and only then you can start the game. With ALVR you can just start steamvr and the game and then connect whenever. I guess if your computer is in your VR cave that's not much of an issue.

ALVR relies on SteamVR which has broken reprojection, but that may not matter as much if its using the onboard HMD's reprojection/warp methods
typically Monado should run smoother than SteamVR on Linux since SteamVR past persion 2.0 broke what little reprojection it had
WIVRN does kinda shit itself if you increase the bitrate, so a foveated encoding-compatible HMD is your best bet
config is a lot less detailed than ALVR, so maybe there's tweaks that are missing

I'm mixed on whether it's actually worth making games like this, when you could do full or even teleport movement like robo recall. Linear campaigns full of stupid mooks to shoot are fine, but there's still that lingering "this could have been an alyx workshop mod" feeling. Coop support would stretch it a lot, but it doesn't look like that's planned.

I made a basic loop with a few stems and hooked them up to the targets; each one's volume is based on the strength of the particles flowing through. godot has basic spatialization built in, and reverb. It was never advertised here, only on /trash/, which had a negative reaction to it.
Having a date IRL also doesn't really explain why you'd advertise the idea on one board and not the other if you already had plans to begin with that would prevent the event from happening in the first place.

I think it'd function essentially like an auction for membership fees. If somebody pays up to ban you, they've outbid your (presumably) initially free membership, and the minimum bid for your membership is now 2x. So in theory your cost of membership is proportional how much interpersonal conflict you cause. It's a market-based asshole tax.

Obviously there are serious problems with their specific mechanism (exponential bid scaling seems dubious), but the economist in me applauds their experiment of using markets vs central planning (i.e. the usual hierarchy of jannies and mods). Plus of course the extreme grift.

If you social problems are more than minor shyness, I don't think you're going to make it. I can't think of a single example of it happening.

The VR screen in PD2 VR automatically gets minimized or something after the startup logo for me. It fixes itself sometimes by mashing the buttons but it exits back out when you go back to the lobby after a mission.
The game still runs, the desktop screen is there, and it recognizes my VR inputs. I have no idea how to replicate how it fixes itself.
