>>520387839
Monday - EU Assetto Corsa; 19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET; every other Monday
Tuesday - EU Pavlov; 19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET

Saturday - SEA/EU Walkabout Minigolf; 13:00 UTC / 23:00 AEST
Saturday - EU Bonelab; 19:00 UTC

I think some of these times are incorrect now that daylight savings time is in effect. EU Pavlov is usually at 19:00 UK time, which always seems to cause some confusion and should be 18:00 UTC/ 20:00 CET until October. Seems EU VRFS is the same >>520388118 but maybe not always?

EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club
Race 94

18:00 UTC 20:00 CEST, 14th of April.

We are going back to the past. To France of 1967, Albi. For one of a kind, two class race, Shelby Cobras and Lotus Type 49s! Both are great cars, but one is lighter than the other. Both are total death mobiles. What will you choose?

1 hour practice
12 minutes qualifiers
14 laps race

Afterwards, I'd love to explore a new freeroam map: Santa Monica Mountains. It's a pretty big photogrammetrized map, with multiple spawn points. We're gonna do a little series, exploring areas of different spawn points. This week: Point F: The Snake Carspot. We have 5 spawn points in total.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.
https://www.mumble.info/

I can't recommend enough Crew Chief
https://thecrewchief.org/
He's a helpfull AI fellow in the pits who'll provide you information about your car, your opponents, yell at you or try to encourage you. And most importantly, he will spot for you, in case you have a car in you blind spot.

UI radar are immersion breaking and basically cheating, but this guy will tell you verbally if someone is there on your right. Download, install, select Assetto Corsa in game list, press "Start application" and it should work!

I thought the general exploring was okayish, but the boss fights felt like a different, much shittier game. Especially in multiplayer.

Made some changes and threw it into the existing rentry here: https://rentry.org/mxotqvmh
It's mostly formatting differences, I think grouping by region and putting event name before the time still makes more sense. Used different headers to remove a little empty space and try to keep each region visible without scrolling.
Left irregular stuff in the normal list since most of them were duplicated in yours, but I do think it could make sense for monthly events.
No idea if the EU times are accurate, I used what you had except for a couple things that got posted this thread with different times. I'll try to update as I see stuff posted.

Good effort. One could debate whether it makes more sense to list games and days, or days and games, as first one could make more sense if a new person wants to learn what we're playing, but I think it's an improvement given the amount of lobbies happening through week.

it would be incredibly cringe at certain points and some anons would not mesh with others well or be too talkative or too quiet but theres potential desu

maybe submit preset group of 3s to randomly select a group per video with the intention that the video you myster science theater over isn't the one you submitted

normal is basically auto: think mjs. manual is you do everything yourself. After round table shuffles. that's about it.

You have a few options

Best in slot: 2x 2.0 Lighthouses + 3x HTC 3.0 Trackers + probably another tracker for the headset but technically optional. Software support is good and stuff works reasonably well.
Cheapest: Homemade slimes. https://docs.slimevr.dev/diy/imu-comparison.html

Honorable mentions: uh, Haritora X?

Overall, if you like FBT you will be getting the HTC trackers eventually anyway because the slimes will drive you fucking insane

If you don't have to support all the garbage systems and just hard focus on top of the line nvidia cards and one headset, you can make a streaming app which shits on everything else, aka best quality, lowest latency, feature support etc.

Basically, once again, the problem is 100% software.

Honestly if I weren't such a sucker for the various CUDA-powered toys on Nvidia's side I would have no qualms about going AMD.

I'm messing around with Intel Arc A770 now - it works mostly fine for VR now, both VD and ALVR handle Intel encoders just fine, if only encoding is in question it even beats AMD. Your only problem is the actual performance of the cards, for VRC expect silky smooth 40FPS at most in any populated instance and don't even dream about showing all avatars.
Just keep in mind that only wireless, HTC and WMR headsets will work with Intel.

This message saved my life.

As an AMD GPU owner, I have no memories of any issues or troubleshooting in VR caused by my GPU. As I read this post I realized that just couldn't be the case, I must be glossing over hours of troubleshooting. Something must be wrong.

Learning of this I immediately went to the hospital, where they found that I hadn't received my required lobotomy issued to all consumers. We rushed to correct this and the procedure went great. Now I can recall all of the issues and troubleshooting. I've just trashed my AMD GPU and will drive to the nearest retailer where I will live in a tent until they have 5090 stock.

Thanks a bunch anon!

Anyway on that note; if anyone has any ideas to benchmark VR on a expected/got kind of approach I think that'd be cool.
Best I got is a resolution-comparison where you take a game that has both flat and VR rendering modes, and render the same amount of pixels in each.
Or maybe some kind of curve where each available resolution is rendered (or a selection of them) for both modes, and plot the curves and see the difference that way.
I think it'd be good to actually have some data on this instead of relying on people that get mad when the product they own is disrespected.
Anonymous No.520524712

Usually, when the game performs poorly, it's just a fault of braindead devs.
I don't see a reason for flat mode, but it's easily doable.
I was thinking about making something similar to gpuinfo.org but for openxr.

Anyway, you need a game. Then you can make a benchmark.
But we don't have games. Unity trash is kinda worthless.

what info would this really give you though? VR vs flat overhead?

the constant AMD shitflinging is largely the result of the current state of AMD VR driver and application support being a lot better than the "cultural" knowledge of general VR users. this is not super unreasonable as things were really really bad 3 years ago (driver stuttering issue, VRC video players, etc) which has stuck in most people's minds.
this contrasts with people who own AMD cards who really have had no major issues for almost 2 years, but there hasn't really been any widely known benchmarks or media reflecting this.
so in the thread people who have been on Nvidia for 3+ years see people using AMD as coping because there's no big public resource "proving" this isnt the case, then you have newer AMD users seeing objectively things work from a user perspective seeing the general consensus not reflect this.

more benchmarks are always good to inform buying decisions related to perf/price but im not sure that'll solve above

AMD are always a poornigger choice. The one gen amd could actually compete on the top-end, they decided to only release midrange cards.
Complete retards.

Benchmarks are also trash, because AMD driver pajeets just going to focus on them, while ignoring everything else, so benchmarks run well while the user experience is trash.

One thing that a lot of people overlook when talking about latency is the importance of getting the prediction amount correct.
With Native PCVR you already have so little latency that disabling prediction is hardly noticeable, but with streaming it becomes very, very important.
I was doing a thing that required these numbers to be relatively accurate, and by introduce extra latency by nuking my frametimes, discovered that nobody is really doing a proper job.

Steamlink will adjust prediction accordingly, but fumbles unless changes are gradual, so it will often get stuck either under or over-predicting.
Airlink makes no adjustments.
VD actually removes prediction, giving you the worst result of them all.

This doesn't necessarily mean each solution would respond the same to changes in encoding, decoding, and transfer latency, but extra latency is extra latency, and they should all be taking it into account regardless of the source.

VD notably does not adjust its prediction when enabling spacewarp or video buffering, both of which absolutely do introduce a bunch of latency and need to be compensated for.

I recorded a bunch of data and wrote up a thing to submit a bug report so they could at least fix Steamlink, but the only avenue to report bugs is Steam discussions where shit just gets buried.

https://gist.github.com/Nordskog/e169f52064db8fc0ce1235be9186c738

All data is pulled from SteamVR frametimings by hooking the drivers.

Sounds like numbers pulled from ass to me.

>If the current frame ends up spending the full 11.11ms rendering, then you'd expect an additional frame of extra prediction to compensate.
I'm not sure it works like this. It should matter how long it takes if you are not over the budget, the headset's display has fixed refresh rate.

Logic behind missing frametimes might be sound, but you are extrapolating too much I think.

>even vd graph stats shouldn't be able to go as low as 20ms
Yeah it's the absolute BEST case scenario and I need the game to have super low game render time and use the fastest h264 preset

>>520520610
I've got no way to record anything meaningful through the lenses but I've got some footage of what the stats look like when playing but please keep in mind that the onboard encoder is shitting itself and dropping massive amount of frames when streaming + recording

Preset I use most of the time for generic gamen, if I can't hold 120 I obviously drop it to 90 but codec and bitrate stays around the same because h265 craps itself sometimes at 200
https://streamable.com/g1t3mg
Here's some pavlov, base h264 200 is what I use when we play. I change to h265 and drop the bitrate a bit later because the recording shits itself at 200 and the latency is still pretty good at 145-150.
https://streamable.com/48n0q9
Here's the same pavlov but with SteamVR, 90fps and video buffering on which is what I used to play at when using my previous router (RT-AX55) and I was pretty much always at 48ms~
https://streamable.com/qo9dne

Overall I think it's getting pretty good now. I wish I had a Pico 4 Ultra to try with since it has proper Wifi7 and can handle 320mhz so 500mbps h264+ stable (I can only do 400 on the Q3) but if they can shove in better decoding chips, better antennas and higher wifi throughtput in the next gen headsets then at some point most people won't be able to tell the difference.
Also can anyone with a minion router and a q3 do a quest test with pavlov and see if they can get somewhat stable results? I'm using a TP-Link BE550 right now but it's a bit more pricey than the meme one.

That wasn't worded very well. s/spend the full budget/exceed the budget. If you miss the vsync window you are boned until the next one, and if that's happening every single frame then you need to start baking that into your prediction.

In Steamlink's performance thing you can actually see it jump in 1-frame increments as it switches to target the next or previous vsync depending fluctuations in framtimes.

The later half of Behemoth has been pretty buggy on PC
frequently enemies don't trigger either the spawn of more enemies after their death, or doors don't open after a combat. So I gotta reload last checkpoint and do the fight again.
Now I'm on the King dude and after the intro to the fight, the little symbol that means you can't sprint/run/dodge stays lit and doesn't go away.
After I beat the guy, without sprint, or dodge, you stab him in the chest and I have an out of body experience teleport across the room, screen goes black and white and nothing happens.
reload save, beat fight again. 5 times. Whatever is supposed to trigger ain't happening.

I don't remember encountering any bugs before the bat. maybe a missed trigger or something but not a big deal.
It's been frequent enough in the latter portion that I think I'm starting to figure out how to cause them. Like each combat room has little offshoots the enemies spawn from. If I sprint/boost into one and kill an enemy right as they spawn it usually breaks it and doors etc won't open.
so now I just RP and stand in the middle of arena and wait for enemies to come to me. I taunt them, point my sword at them menacingly, stuff like that.

Autistic shader discussion is friendlier in-game usually. The past few trash threads have had arguments between liltoon and poiyomi that are basically 99% buzzwords. The shader arguments have at least cut down the schizobabble but the threads are still not worth going to in any case. If you have genuine questions, you'd be better off getting an answer here depending on what shader you're looking to use.

Ah, that statement was not intended to refer to encoding/decoding latency alone, but the total additional latency introduced by streaming.

I think I had it running at 120fps for that particular graph, so at 40-48ms total that's an additional 20-28ms of prediction ontop of encoding/decoding and whatnot.

The 30-60ms number does match up pretty well with the reported time-to-display value, which is the time between when the frame was submitted and when it is predicted to be displayed. Actual latency aside, that's how much latency it thinks there will be, after the frame has already been rendered and submitted.

I'm not set up to peer into the frame timings of PCVR native drivers, but in theory their time-to-display values should be in the single-frame range, or two at most, which is basically margin of error compared to streaming.

hmm, i dunno about that
what else is there? transfer? i don't think anything else is notable there
>When you stream VR, you also have to contend with the latency introduced by video encoding, decoding, and data transfer, and other bits and pieces of overhead. Encoding and decoding will eat up most of this, with an expected 30-60ms of total additional latency.
even from your graph we know that encoding/decoding is sub 20ms
which is definitely not as low as you can go too
with foveated encoding the transfer should be pretty fast too.

Now that got me thinking. Currently OpenXR expects the framebuffer to be fully rendered, before it starts processing it.
But with quad view + foveated encoding you could theoretically render the low res background first, instantly submit it to the API and start its encoding and transfer, while at the same time start rendering the high res foveated area.
This way you should be able to pipeline a lot of work and cut the latency by a lot.
If that works, what we are doing right now is caveman shit.

Yeah, fovea might need to be rendered first then.

The solution is really simple. Years ago we used to have a latency tester for monitors and TVs, Leo Bodnar was producing a little instrument. It was a usb joystick coupled with a sensor, all linked by an app. You press the button in the joystick and it measures how much it takes for the screen to change color. It's a very simple concept and very accurate. All other talking is nonsense.

ONE GAME
I DON'T KNOW WHY
I BOUGHT AN INDEX WITH NO GAMES TO BUY
KEEP THAT IN MIND THEY DESIGNED THIS HARDWARE
WITH TOUCH CONTROLS
AND THAT'S ALL I KNOW
IN HEADSET WARS, EXCLUSIVES ARE KEY
WATCH IT FLY BY AS IT PORTS TO QUESTIES
LOSE MY EXCLUSIVES AT THE END OF THE GEN
I HAVE NO GAMES TO PLAY

ITS SO UNFAIR
DIDNT LOOK OUT BELOW
THROW MY TRACKERS RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW
TRY TO HOLD ON BUT I DIDNT EVEN KNOW
WASTED IT ALL JUST WATCH MOVIES
I SPENT ALL MY TIME IN POPCORN PALACE
OF MY OLD GAME I'M TIRED, ALL I GOT IS QUEST PORTS
JUST LIKE THE WII, ITS REMINDING ME, OF A MEMORY, OF A TIME WHEN
I CRIED SO HARD FOR VR TITLES
BUT IN THE END, ITS JUST GOT NO GAMES
I PAIS SO MUCH, FOR VIVE TRACKERS
BUT IN THE END, IM JUST GOONING WITH GAY MEN

>want to upgrade from my Vive Pro 2
>actually seeing some good candidates now
>everything besides the meganex has the same mediocre binocular overlap

Im starting to think the backward trend in binocular overlap is one of the great downfalls in modern headset development.
I used to ask myself why my VP2 gradually felt arcadey and un-immersive compared to the wow factor i had with my low spec OG Vive, and then i saw people pointing out the overlap differences.
And its not just important for vidya games, the porn felt so much more real. In the VP2, watching it is like have a huge high-res screen strapped to your face, its not so much a personal experience and im not tempted towards it like i was with the OG vive years ago.
The obvious answer is then just to go and buy the meganex, but its got low fov, and im now seeing comments about a bunch of other issues it has. Left me feeling deflated on the state of the PCVR market.

tldr: We need a true 3d VR headset upgrade

I don't think that's it. I've noticed the "staring at a screen" effect just gradually comes to you the longer you use VR, and happens with the same headset. Bad binocular overlap just means things in the peripheral won't be stereo 3d. Which is the case for our real eyes with anything behind your nose, it's just worse in a VR headset. Surely that makes a difference but I don't know if it adds up to what you're talking about.

I think the real problem is fixed focal point, and eventually your brain starts ignoring other depth queues and is better able to tell the screen is optically around 1-2 meters away. I remember being blown away by the big dalgarian dungeons on blade in sorcery, huge caves and ravines and stuff like that. But last time I looked at them I just didn't feel the scale. But a while ago I was in a power plant and impressed by the size in a way I haven't been impressed in VR, even in similar environments of a larger size in half life 2. Things in VR look 3d, and the stereo suggests to your brain these things should be far away, but they don't "look" far away. I'm sure you could trick yourself again with oled blacks, sharper resolution with no screen door, realisticly bright highlights with hdr etc, so for a time you can pretend it's not a screen, but I wonder if you'll eventually be able to tell again.

Oh just remembered something imporant, I've read older VR headsets used a long or infinite focal distance and they had to stop doing that because objects close up would be difficult or impossible to look at. Whats the focal distance of the OG vive?

I think you will be waiting a long time. Index has big lenses so the coverage for a single lens is pretty much maxed, and it has an eye relief adjustment. Fresnel is going out and I think pancake lenses would need 3000 nits to give you 300 at 10% efficiency.

I lust after the hypervision but I think you need 3 lenses arranged in a trinity to get full human FOV in the vertical. I hope something like that could be manufactured one day. Look down your face and realize how much you can see that's not covered by VR lenses right now, and how important it is to see your body in your lower peripheral. Also I'm tired of tipping my head up and down in porn videos to see snatch and boobies at the same time.

Pimax Crystal Super is really tempting me, MRTV gave it something significant praise besides calling out the overstated overlap which gave me the most pause.
I might still say fuckit and go for the Crystal Super and just try to calibrate towards the 3d feel over FOV. Kinda sucks that the lighthouse tracking isnt enabled by default, on the positive side it can switch out displays so theres upgrade options in the future without rebuying a completely new setup.
Dont think ill regret waitfagging the Deckard at this stage, unless Valve pulls off super-wireless beaming PCVR, the standalone will be pretty mid

That's awesome, do you have a quick methodology so someone witha different system can easily perform a meaningful benchmark for comparison?

kinda wortrhless
show the framegraph + video instead
for all we know you could be staring at the wall

and 99th percentile is such a gay shit too for vr specifically
I unironically agree the with digital foundry meme
>fps dropped to 119.8 once? better lock it to 90fps
dropped a frame once? it's over for you
for vr bad performance it's simply unacceptable, because you can make people physically sick
if percentile garbage was gone and everyone used only absolute lowest frametime as a stat, the driver pajeet would have a good initiative to actually optimize
rant over
