There's a gamedev here that you can talk to if you want a good understanding of why outfit creators and now base creators don't optimize.
But to summarize what he told me at his job (a little inaccurately because I don't remember exactly).

High resolution sculpt from start to finished and signed off and approved as the final design => Two weeks.
Optimized game ready model based off of that final high resolution model finalized and game ready => Two months.

Optimizing models and their textures is the most time consuming part of modelling and retaining quality whilst optimized is the highest skill part of modelling.
It's a competitive market.
70k being the limit for very poor means to be competitive and also be optimized and also support as many bases as possible when your competition is EXTENSION and VAGRANT means only an idiot would waste time doing it.

This all could have been avoided if VRChat acknowledged the quality of characters people want to use and put a limit that was reasonable for asset creators to hit.
Unreasonable limit means the floor was hit immediately when the booth market started a race to the bottom in a competitive for-profit market.

Its not even about optimization for me, its just not making completely stupid choices. For example there is absolutely zero reason that the buttons on this cuff should have 98% of the triangles in this mesh. (The bottom of the button is modeled as well.)

Typing 12 instead of 30 into the "create cylinder" box would have cost the artist nothing. And this is made all the more egregious by the fact that he used like 20 quads total for the rest of the cuff so its not even like this is a high quality model. Artists similarly love modeling zippers as a billion tiny cubes which is completely unnecessary.

This kind of bullshit is not the artist making a "high quality" model that you can selectively optimize. It is completely pointless and in most cases the only fix is to delete the offending feature and remake it from scratch.

Learning shaders the classic way which i did a looong time ago is to go to catlikecoding.com

Learning shaders and 3D rendering is a big journey.
If you want to learn quick and have fun just immediately getting hands-on making shaders
Make a unity project with URP and shadergraph packages.
Google "URP shader tutorial" and just start grinding tutorials.
You can also open up one of the modern blenders like any 4.0+ blender and grind Blender Shader tutorials.
There's thousands of them.
You can do both learning HLSL through catlikecoding and using shadergraph and blender.

If you just want to better understand the shaders that you're using.
1. Open up the documentation of the shader you're using.
2. Grab a bunch of random textures, noise textures, patterns(black and white), normals, LUTS, gradients etc. Make 3 textures that are a gradient with each texture only using the Red Channel, the Blue Channel, or the Green Channel only. Get some different skyboxes too. Of the black and white patterns and noise textures duplicate that you like the most, duplicate the asset in your project then set the duplicate to greyscale is transparency.
3. Make a new scene, create a generic unity sphere and a unity plane gameobject.
4. Make a material using the shader you want to learn more about and put that material on the sphere and plane.
5. Read the documentation then fuck around and find out.

The only thing wrong with the ww2 weapons are the optics. No glow sights as well as the weird shapes makes them hard to actually aim. Point shooting and just walking the tracers onto enemies is only really effective with automatics. Having to detach a hand to work the bolt just makes it impractical. I do really need to grind out bolt actions though. Being able to consistently slap chests with them would be a handy skill to have in the back pocket.

I played back when the wabbajack was the fus-ro-dah pack but now I hear "the mad god overhaul" is a better tailoring of mods although I haven't tried it yet.
quest 3 is pretty high resolution, so you'll need a fairly beefy PC to get 90fps in skyrim without reprojection (spacewarp).
You'll also need a decent router, wifi 6e+ recommended, to get the most bandwidth possible for Q3. And a new headstrap. Headstraps with a spare battery like the Kiwi or BoboVR ones. And possibly a new facial interface if you don't find the default comfy.

as for why the 128gb is more expensive I can only speculate. They stopped making the 128gb model some few months ago, and ran a short sale on the 512gb after so maybe whoever you're looking at buying it from just priced it based on that.

I think most of commercial VR is training for specific physical jobs where real training is expensive/dangerous. Like there's a VR simulator for spraying deicing fluid on airplanes on a runway. They're all pretty unglamorous though so you don't see much press about it, but it does keep vive alive.
