Friendly reminder that verification is mendatory and leaves your private data with the devs who CAN and WILL use it against you (e.g. doxxing you) should they see your actions as "against Somnium".

If you are fine with a company doing this kind of enforcement instead of lawful due process, your golden.

How many vrgers are marries/have heterosexual IRL relationships?

Reduce the maximum size of some of the textures in the import settings, especially the normal maps, masks, matcaps etc. You can get away with 1024 or 512 on those easily with little quality loss.

I find that its default setting is too aggressive, but the 'Quality' preset is fine, and if you simply have to have one texture at full 4k, you can "freeze" it to a particular resolution while letting it still lower resolutions on other stuff.

Does everybody here normally use custom models? Like no anime rips / gacha rips?

>>569434070
yes we upload our own models because we have a superiority complex over the disgusting normies

>>569434070
There's only a few people that use game rips and gatcha rips, can probably count them with 1 hand though

>>569434070
Pretty much. Popular Booth models are the standard. They are easier to set up in most instances, look nicer, and have lots of available outfits.

>>569434070
Game rips were more common in the early days. However, they tend to be of lower visual quality than modern purpose-made avatars, since game models are often dependent on specific engine characteristics of their og game in order to look good. Or they simply don't translate well to VR stylistically.

So yeah, these days most people use booth avatars, and if they want to dress as a specific character, they'll often use a booth base and then kitbash a cosplay of it rather than use an actual 1:1 game rip.

nah its generally fine enough, d4rk avatar optimizer like the other guy said

>>569444968
I dunno what that is, but I got this thing, is it good enough?

>>569444654
What shader are you using? d4rk's is for poiyomi and completely automated, AOO works for Liltoon but requires a little bit of legwork but not much to get your material slots down heavily. d4rk's will also help with bones, physbones and skinned mesh regardless of shader choice.

https://github.com/d4rkc0d3r/d4rkAvatarOptimizer

>>569336520 (Cross-thread)
I also hope to see me there

>>569445240
I think I'm using liltoon, no idea, honestly, I don't like reading tiny words.
I'll try d4rk's

>>569445648
d4rk's will merge your meshes, and help with materials a bit, but not much, as well as clean up bones. You'll still be very poor with the tris.

>>569446075
Yes, but no one cares about Very Poor on tris except for Tupper while cleaning up the other shit is nice for saving people's frames

>>569426390
bleak man hope you can get out of it I'll pray for you (for your demise that is)

>>569444654
like all the others said, shove d4rk's in (it auto applies and you wont see changed values until it uploads)
also use AAO's Remove by Blendshape component to just straight up delete mesh non-destructively in unity for body areas people will never see such as nipples and elbows depending on the outfit

So my friend invited me to go with him to Furality this weekend and i'm a bit scared to go specially since I cuss alot and one of the things in the rules says "no cussing" will I be ok? Also is furality even worth going to if I am getting in for free?

VRC caters to furries for a reason. They are cash cows and fall victim to predatory fundraising.

It costs $270 to get to the support tier to buy this portal, and it's $60 to just go to this virtual event.

I understand though, they need these kinds of suckers to keep running the servers desu

Is there any good photo browsing tool that also lets you have a panel of editable exif data on the side? I was going to go through some VRChat photos and tag them with the theme and type of world they are but it's a bit tedious switching between the default photo viewer and opening up the properties in windows explorer to edit.

Yen is in the shitter so I wouldn't be so sure. Jap furries are also to be considered.

>>569482275
Why does vrchat even need to be centralized? Also what's the purpose of being able to upload avatars if the game is no longer enjoyable because of furries? Honestly I'd rather no one could upload avatars or worlds, and everyone was forced to just use the default assets they had back in VRC 2017.

>>569485952
No I mean physically tag the metadata so I can search it in windows explorer for things like bar worlds, game worlds, exploration worlds etc. I convert the files to jpg anyways so the only thing in there is the world id in the file name.

>>569486047
>Why does vrchat even need to be centralized?
So that people can make money

I've always been saying it'd be better if there was a decentralized vrc- like platform
I guess basisvr allows and encourages for that but still somebody would need to make a whole platform skeleton on top of it.

>>569486253
I was being rhetorical. The devs are greedy and no one wants to switch platforms because their friends and personal/favorite content is already configured and uploaded to VRC.

>>569486621
The beauty is that it's all just unity projects in the end, most of the stuff is universal
Switching platforms wouldn't be that big of an issue for any person that is slightly tech savvy.
Only problem that remains is just being used to vrc

>>569488562
When you feel to need to avatar fag on trash for attention is when it's 100% over. Newfag buff is more like getting you addicted to attention.
You will feel when it stops coming, but you are still addicted to it, slowly degrading and being more and more sexual trying to get your next high.

>>569488562
buff ends when people can identify who you are, the buff exists simply because people are happy to see new faces

>>569488562
it expires i think like after a year or something will happen faster if more new friends join

Are you beach body ready Anon?

>>569488562
It varies depending on how much you put yourself out there and who you hang around. It's not like suddenly you wake up one day and you're like "Oh, I'm no longer a newfag".
Generally I'd consider it to start steadily wearing off around the 2 month mark, and be mostly gone by around 6-8 months in.

Again, not a hard rule. But if you've been visiting instances regularly for six months and NOBODY knows who you are, that's almost entirely your fault for not putting yourself out there.

Also, again. It's a MULTIPLICATIVE buff. You can very well shift from being a wallflower or "guy who only shows up to mahjong" to being a more widely known person at any point in your time here. It's just slightly easier if nobody has any preconceptions about you.

I genuinely didn't have anyone in particular in mind. I'm just aware there's a small subset of people who mostly see this community as "VR Mahjong" rather than a wider social platform.
Every once in a while you catch a glimpse of them elsewhere and you're like "who the fuck is this", turns out they've been visiting for years and just happened to step away from the tables on this rare occasion.

>>569495710
They are kinda working on something to '3d effect' 2d games. Like the game is still in an overlay, but you get a stereo perspective on the game content

>>569495772

but any stuff I've heard about that seems to have evaporated since

>>569496000
I think they just dropped it valve style to concentrate on getting the more improtant features working first

>>569495772
They'd need to match up half of UEVR's features to get something decent and I doubt their team of half a dozen dues could make a universal injector in a timely fashion when it took praydog's years to get there just for one engine.

>>569495740

Valve needs to give people a reason to buy VR
I think, they need to release something like VRchat, but like more "official" something like Garry's mod, but for VR, where you just go and hang out at the Valve Plaza, and check out each other's library by going to their room

it'd be cool

>>569496093
probably
actually getting the headset/software working is a way higher prio than making their own vorpx or whatever
but i can dream i spose

>>569496341
idk, fuck that game

>>569496341
https://youtu.be/nn32g-54-yo

>>569496192
They tried that with Alyx. They gave everyone a reason to get a headset. It's good but they don't need a reason to play VR; playing VR is cool enough (and the people that disagree will never get into VR anyway), it needs a reason to keep playing VR. Either single player games with a load of replayability or gametime or multiplayer stuff with the same.
VRC is the primary one for PCVR. Gorilla tag, rec room (RIP), and VRC are the quest ones. Although there's a decent playerbase in pavlov shack and a couple other VR games. So for quest it almost made it. If meta shared their numbers it would be interesting to see if these numbers are shrinking, indicating that reasons to keep playing are going down.

>>569496192
The idea of visiting your friends VR profile and their showcases are actual showcases, achievements are trophies and screen shots are pictures does sound very cool, and then you go into their library room and it's just endless bookshelves of vidya

>>569474532

squeek! happy friday. im going try hosting rat friday again but I do understand the summer game fest is happening like two hours before. I could try to delay it an hour or two later tonight to give ppl time to watch it or I can just host it normally, up to you guys.

>>569480983
>>569481329
Damn I was just coming here to post this.
VRC should feel ashamed of themselves letting these furries charge anywhere from $270 to upwards of TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a fucking FOMO portal.

Also this is unironically like the 5th year in a row that one of the organizers has been outed as a pedophile.

I don't even know what summer game fest is.

There are some primary problems with VR and getting it to not die:

Reasons to put the headset on. I think this is the big one. If something in VR is compelling, you will battle motion sickness, playspace syncing, anything to go do it. What is in VR? Tech demos? The most appealing thing is VRC, as evidenced by people's steamvr hours. Those that play VRC have more steamVR hours. By far.

Physical difficulty of putting the headset on. This include: Clearing space, standing up, spinning up your base stations, getting all the hybrid playspace shit to work, battling quest updates, messing around with a cable or wireless problems, uncomfortable headset, battery life... etc etc etc - just anything that makes VR harder to run than a flat game where you just double click a thing and it runs. I think this is the second most important issue.

Entry fees. I don't think this is super important since it's something people would pay if the experience was good enough. (I mean hardware costs)

>>569497587

>>569497318
vrc sort of offers you a virtual reality that you can immerse yourself in that is more favorable than most people's reality at home
it's understandable if anything that some people don't mind putting on the 1kg brick just to spend time the same way they would normally, just with a female avatar in a nice, evergreen, pristine environment

BORGS?!

>>569496891
Why not host somewhere with a good video player, then we can watch it together

>>569497310
There are a lot of good games, and Quest gamers play them en masse. Some PCVR diehards do too.

Connecting your HMD to your PC filters a lot of gamers. And what for? There are the same games which run natively, so what's the point? So you have now tonnes of children playing native games on Quest and some PCVR diehards playing on SteamVR.

>>569500892
The quest playerbase does seem to look a lot more healthy but I think you've really got to still hit it with the "HOW many headsets were sold?" question. Retention rates are still terrible, just the pool is larger because of the low cost.

Has fbt tracking calibration changed since 2022? My older avatars feel weird

>>569502290
yes, there's now an armspan setting, and a lockhead+hips lock_head etc option to set.

>>569502520
What's the meta with those settings

>>569502709
It entirely depends on your avatar. You just have to play with it.

>>569502709
Height instead of armspan, and lock head only.
Main drawback is your avatar's arms may be shorter than your real ones, but that's easier to work around than getting the height to match properly. Lock hips will cause your view point to desync when sitting/laying, and lock both will stretch or compress your avatar's spine depending on the difference between it and your trackers which looks like shit.

>>569502834
Aw hell they all felt weird

>>569502709

after thinking about it I do actually trust valve to not just randomly put up preorders with no warning, so it instead just notifies if valve publishes any official new news items that mention steam frame (across hardware news/steamworks SDK news) or the steam frame depot ID gets anything new (news or price). So it's essentially a fancy RSS feed at this point. (And sorry if you did get spammed by a bunch of random jewgle news items once; I removed that so it's only official valve sources now).

If gaben does end up doing some wacky reservation system where botting would actually help, I'll slop up something for it. but until then enjoy ur push notifications on depot changes I guess.

You gotta pick up on subtler things. How often they're around you, how much they're talking to you, compliments, physical affection (extended headpats etc.), body language, and so on.

The dance of the grown man is an elaborate one.

>>569528562
This is why I will never ERP, flirting is a foreign language to me and I'd rather not embarrass myself attempting to do it with zero game.

>>569528834
Flirting with men as an anime girl is basically tutorial mode, no better place to learn. Just try something, so long as you learn what worked and what doesn't you're good.

>>569529253
There is large overlap of /g/ autists, /tg/ autists, /m/ autists and /v/ autists in /vrg/, traditionally boards that don't interact with /a/ much or aren't too invested in anime culture.

>>569528834
Just tell people their avatars are cute/hot, or compliment people on what you like about their avatars, like "nice tummy" or "look how flat you are. That's hot".
You basically have to let the other grown men know that they make your dick hard.

>>569529814
eh there's overlap but half of the boards feel like AI/jeetposters anyway

>>569530246
Except that's not how it works, I've noticed by listening to others that you have to say it the "right" way or else they think you're just being a creep. I can't figure out what the "right" way is and don't wanna become another Genesis by coming off as creepy.

From what I remember they said they were working on a bunch of first party titles (not halflife) for vr. They deliberately coincided the release of the index with alyx so they could give people a reason to buy vr. I imagine it'll be much the same with the frame. Those games are probably done and waiting on the frame to release to be part of a frame bundle or whatever.

>>569542873

You should have watched the interviews with valve in november. They flat out stated they are not releasing any VR titles to go with the frame.

Yeah, and they canned every single one of those besides Alyx.
>They deliberately coincided the release of the index with alyx so they could give people a reason to buy vr
Actually came out a year later, which considering the supply issues they had with the Index could've actually been at least partially intentional.
>I imagine it'll be much the same with the frame
I imagine it was mostly same except this time all of the games got canned, since like the other anon said, they've already announced they're not planning to release any VR games along with the Frame.

progress on my "turn every vrchat world into a building on a map" project. I found enough cool procgen literature on making city streets and blocks that I tried it out. My city planner is a bit schizo still but it's definitely more compelling than the slightly trypophobic voronoi fields.

I'm convinced I have enough here to actually generate a full 3d terrain/city with fake 3d buildings too. So you could potentially like drive around in this in a vrchat map and get a portal to each world, vs just a 2d map website. Or like do a strategic bombing run on the furry avatar fields in VTOL. There are ~150k non-labs maps, which is a lot, but still small enough to fit into a single unity scene if properly culled/instanced, I think.
