It took 69 months for the Frame to finally be released
longest 2weeks of my life
glad its over
TWO WEEKS HAVE ENDED
THE FINAL TWO WEEK HAVE BEGUN
>>581017285
was it worth the weight though
>>581017346
don't remind me of that
Asking in a new thread, how's the AVP with VRC and face tracking these days?
At least the fov is supposed to be good, I guess.
can the frame use a wired connection
What's the latency?
inb4 two weeks
no dupe
>>581017416
Definitely not worth $3499 that's for damn sure.
>>581017346
I can't even buy it in NZ and now I'm gonna have to buddy up with an NA to get it for me.
Or, I could get a kallax from IKEA and a couple dessicants and improve the life of my 3s.
Is the pico 4 an upgrade to the 3s or just a sidegrade?
>>581017526
nyo
>>581017526
I hope so
>>581017574
It's an upgrade because you're going to pancake and rear battery but a downgrade in SoC/Wifi
the poor mic quality is really unfortunate
>>581017526
Considering Valve added wired streaming to Steam Link recently, I assume it'll work there too.
It's going to be over USB though.
>>581017915
If it's like the quest, the trickle power from the usb cable will give out about 4-5hrs of wired gamen. More than enough for me for racing.
>>581017898
>only one reviewer so far that tried the mic
why are reviewers so worthless?
i remember there being audio from the mic around the time they announced it and it sounded good
>>581017176 (OP)
so I've been out of the loop with VR, but it seems like this isn't a huge upgrade compared to the Quest 3 unless I'm missing something? (very possible)
also I know this is done to death but have there been any noteworthy VR games that released in the last year? I tried the Thief VR game since I like imsims and I didn't enjoy it much.
>>581018120
>Games that released 2026
Forefront anon. Hit em with your best.
Have any reviewers looked at making the eye tracking work for VRC yet?
Is there a reviewer that talks about the screen and panel quality and resolution compared to the Q3? PPD in the center etc
>>581017526
the usb-port only has USB2 speeds (480 mbps) so it's going to be sub-optimal
I can't wait to buy a VR headset so I can finally play Balatro.
>>581017176 (OP)

They're probably close to identical. GN said panels look about the same as well.
>>581018548
Many are saying this but it's to play Slay the Spire 2 VR MOD with motion control card grabbing and passthrough.
>it mogs my desktop's CPU
>>581018120
>it seems like this isn't a huge upgrade compared to the Quest 3 unless I'm missing something?
You're not. Only real difference is you pay an extra $600 and in return you get a device that you actually own. But if you don't care about that then not much of a reason to spring for it over a q3 desu.
>pic unrelated
>>581018676
is someone making this (slopping this)
i'll lose my shit
>>581017176 (OP)
Now that the dust has settled, what headset/FBT combo should I buy solely for ERP on VRC? I know nothing about VR
I assume I'd be okay with my headset being connected to my PC via a cable (less long-term radiation exposure with wifi disabled? Sounds preferable). My PC's a fairly strong desktop running windows 11, if that helps. I'm looking to spend $1,000 or less in TOTAL so the frame's out of the question, and I'm against what y'all seem to call "zuccware" so any variations of the quest are also off the table
>>581018809
what's stopping you from doing it?
>>581018658
About the same isn't enough. When the P4 Ultra came out we had shilltubers saying it was the same as the Q3, when it wasn't.
>>581018903
nothing really to be quite fair with you famaling
>terrible microphone
>terrible battery life
>no color passthrough
>no face tracking
>worse speakers than the index
>USB2 in 2026
>doesn't come with a power supply
>doesn't come with a charging dock
>lottery ticket needed just to get one
anything i'm missing?

JEBOT! FIRE THE SLOPCANON!
>I'll have to spend 2 months worth of figgie orders to buyfag a steam frame

>>581018489
This is from the tested review
do any of the GTA games still work in VR without some deprecated mod that rockstar sued the crap out of existence?
>>581019220
unfathomably grim
>>581019220
Do you know what streamer they used on the Quest 3?
>>581019150
>has a monthly budget for anime statues
GRIM
>>581019105
>doesn't come with a power supply
I'd be fine with becoming the norm, so long as high-quality usb cables are still included. I have half a dozen power supplies lying around, why would I want more.
I FEEL SO UNTOUCHED

Steam Link because of the shitty foveation on the sides
>>581018772
The material on the face doesnt match the material on the body.
What the microphone sounds like quite literally isn't my problem. I don't have to hear it.
it's going to be fun in 2 days when only like 10% get a confirmation email
pandemonium
>>581019105
>no headphone jack
>charging port in a shit position
I don't even think the ultra-rich VRC coomers will buy this.
>>581020268
what should I buy if im a picky ultra rich newbie?
>>581019105
So unbelievably grim. Absolutely cooked. It will not do better than the index.
If we're lucky valve will make something better in another 7 years.
Until then, time to go third party. Bigmeme or Pico or something.
>>581019824
Yeah because anime faces are flat and stupid looking in a 3D space like VR
>>581020663
The face looks fine. It's the body material that sucks.
>>581019304
Pretty sure that's from both headsets in passthrough using the color camera addon for the Frame.
>>581021021
I hope it's the Arcturus cameras having screen door and not the display itself...
>>581019269
I've seen some vice city mod videos posted here, so I presume so
>>581019105
actually i forgot
>doesn't come with top strap, that's a $60 add on
>no hot-swap battery
>heavy chromatic aberration on the lenses
and from anons
>no headphone jack
>charging port on the back of the headset
>>581021124
anon I...
Okay so I want to get to the bottom of which version are you more likely to win the lottery with 256GB or 1TB.
Argument for 256GB:
- they have likely made ALOT more of these than 1TB ones, as we could see from the Steam Machine stats (can't find the source for this currently but I swear I saw it somewhere)
Argument for 1TB:
- although they probably made ALOT less of these, there probably are ALOT less buyers for these aswell
It's just that if you lose the lottery the wait for the 1TB one will be way longer cos they make less of them.
Some anon said that scalpers will go for the 256GB one, dunno if I agree.
The Frame is already super expensive, so if I was a scalper I think I would rather target the richfags and go for the more expensive one instead.
Please reply with your arguments anons.
>>581017176 (OP)
What headset/FBT combo should I buy solely for VRC ERP?
Pic unrel
>>581021124
The spines of the books being sharper is a pretty good indication that it's the display. Matches what we'd heard from older hands on impressions too.
>>581021328
QPro, lighthouses and Vive 3.0 trackers. This is undisputed.
>>581021260
I'll wait for non shilltubers to do reviews I think...
So if i have money to throw away like a retard and want to get into VR, is the steam frame good?
if i get the steam frame, what are my fbt options?
>>581021270
just ask all your non-vr friends to enter the lottery on your behalf
>>581021643
It's probably fine. Just more expensive and not really meaningfully better than the previous generation of headsets is all.
>>581021643
all the other options are worse
>>581021672
i dont like this channel they are super detailed and they don't know anything about video games or how vr is supposed to be used by fat people its really annoying
>>581021971
>>581021975
Okay I will go all in then
https://rentry.co/ozainvzd
what is the best headset if i want face tracking? without having to sell my left kidney ofc
>>581022204
You can find a like new used Qpro or Pico 4 for about $300
>>581021270
I joined the 256GB list even though I have no intention of buying the Frame. I bet there are many others like me. We are probably less likely to click on the 1TB version.
>face tracking sensors for better accuracy
>>581021328
>>581021464
What about non-quest options, what's the next best?
>>581022204
Galaxy XR with military/edu discount, and preferably another promotion on top of that. You then call Samsung when you get it and threaten to return it, the jeet you're talking to will offer you another 10% off if you don't because that's the company policy. Brings it down to a much more reasonable price
>>581022204
Quest Pro
Don't fall for the Pico 4 meme if best facetracking is what you're after.
Oops, posted in a ded thread. shilling some more vibeslop https://file.hiina.space/rgbd-spectator/ . it's the point cloud meme again, using a vtol mod to record the depth map along with eye mirror pixels. Neat though hard to read when the plane actually moves. There are a few options for fade/persistence, not sure what approach works best yet.
>>581021270
I joined the 1Tb list, but I can see where your arguments are coming from. Still time to change the list before the deadline, a Quest is already cheaper then some 1049 bucks frame. So overall it's a hard decision, in my normie circles the Frame have kinda not been a big deal, so I think the amount of scalpers and buyers overall is low.
>>581017526
its usb2 my brother
G2 anon here. Simracing Chad. Creator of Bigshit Begone.
Is the Frame legit? Is $1k ok? Linux suppor? Buy yeah nah?
>>581023873
how the fuck are there still usb2 devices in 2026
It's insane that they've cheaped out on seemingly every component, even the ones that wouldn't be hampered by memory shortages. The panels suck and the extra velcro costs $60. It's insulting.
And another new project i'm calling "SLOP IS BAD (woa cool robots)". Still thinking about how best to do the controls. Here gipity decided to bind the shield/gun hands to the virtual hands in a toggle system, so if you toggle off you can touch things in the cockpit, but also move your hand and rebind so the 'real' robot hand is in a different pose relative. Kind of weird but it's growing on me. That plus the 6dof movement kind of reminds of the ded Space Junkies game's sword/sheield, which was actually fun, shame it died of mismanagement/weird ubisoft drama.
>>581024897
It doesn't even support Linux streaming, its Windows only for PCVR. I guess Linux VR is too niche even for Valve to give a fuck about. Maybe 2027 will be the year of the Linux desktop for real.
tldr it's not worth it
The Meme Frame might be comfy for EmuVR
>>581024960
what, you wanted it to cost $1500?
MADNESS
>>581025095
Slopping together underdogs.
>>581025147
Yeah. PCVR is just flat game ports now, so having VR controllers with Xbox parity is perfect. It helps that the sticks should probably be clickable without breaking. I couldn't think of a better design.
>>581025147
Can already use a normal gamepad for EmuVR I don't really see the point, however they're the only controllers to have all the buttons required to do UEVR with 6dof + motions controls + all the other buttons craps needed for a decent experience.
>>581025095
space junkies in webum related. Its other weapons were cool too, like the meme slingshot, bow, shake-to-recharge instagib, and this shield.
>>581025324
oh yea, forgot about that game. I should probably try it but it was a little too basketball american coded for me
>ThrillSeekers says it lasts 45mins in standalone
>>581025521
he looks good without the mask on lmao
>>581025456
Underdogs is OK but ruined by being a 'rogue-lite'. At least co-op is fun. Mechwarrior 5 is still one of the only decent VR Mech games, especially with them still making DLC for it so it has an obscene amount of content, and modders who give a fuck. Wish Vox Machinae had mods. Or a worthwhile campaign.
>>581025324
it does kinda look like underdogs lol
>>581025456
it's actually british nog coded you feel me mandem?
>Meta Quest Pro Standalone VR Headset Black with Controllers & Accessories
>$650.00 or Best Offer
Is this a good deal? Should I buy this as my 1st VR headset?
>>581025521
lemme guess they tried running some x86 pc game through five layers of emulation
SEAfags if I was to enter in on multiple accounts which unit would you be more likely to buy off me for cost+?
t.ausfag
>>581025114
Man fuck Valve lmao gayass retards.
>>581025114
wait is there seriously no linux streaming
>>581025703
you can find it cheaper im sure
>>581026008
Steam VR would have to work on linux first lmao
>>581025845
What gets me is that earlier they were advertising all their Steam hardware as working together in harmony. Another knock against the Steam Machine more than anything as even with all the delays Steam OS still isn't fully cooked. How was their plan to release everything later 25' or early this year when streaming and the standalone version of Alyx STILL aren't done?
>>581026008
Yeah, Windows only. That applies to other headsets you want to use their streaming software with too. Maybe someone will vibecode something.
>>581017524
>""""""good""""""
We'd only have good FoV if foveated rendering in VR games was the norm, but now it's too late.
>>581026008
Apparently flat game streaming works, VR streaming doesn't.
>>581026008
they're working on itTM
Is it worth getting steam frame for the prescription inserts? I don't got a heavy glasses prescription but the quest 2 I had years ago gifted to me was unusable with how blurry everything was with and without my glasses
wangblows chads win for the first time
>>581017898
Why does it matter? Aren't you all using voice changers to pretend you're women?
>>581026343
You can buy inserts for the Quest, anon
>>581026343
always get inserts for whatever headset you have
the price is so little compared to literally not scratching your lenses with your glasses and getting much bigger fov
>>581025703
You make six figgies just buy whatever you want.
>>581026343
literally nearly every headset has prescription inserts retardbro
>>581026446
Appreciate it. Is Steam frame worth getting then even if it's essentially a 600 dollar more Quest 3? I ain't doing anything on the VR headset itself, and will be streaming everything from my PC. That 6ghz dongle with the steam frame was main reason why I was intrigued. Granted I'll needa spend another 100 or so on the custom lenses and then another 150 if I want color pass through...
>>581026681
If you have money go Steam Frame
If you don't have money go Quest 3
>>581026506
Go home, anon-you'te drunk!
>>581026820
Steam frame it is yuh, now... has anyone figured out full body tracking yet? Or at the very least individual hand tracking? I kinda enjoyed that experimental feature (at the time) on the quest 2 where you can use your hands in view of the cameras on the quest 2 instead of your controllers
>>581026992
Same as Quest, though Fluxpose just confirmed that it can work natively when that comes out.
>>581026681
It's the only headset designed for PCVR streaming
>>581026992
No word on hand tracking but there will probably be 3rd party addons
Full body tracking is the same it ever was which is to use space calibrator mixed/hybrid setup like Quest or slimeVRs
>>581026681
Can you retards stick to gooning in XIV please?

The hands only aren’t moving because I was testing the feet in desktop mode. They will be moving in regular vr obviously
femras truly are the worst
>>581017416
Apple locks down the face and eye tracking so no one has currently found a way to get around that.
Samsung’s Galaxy XR fully supports face and eye tracking though and looks great while being half the price with many used units selling for far less than the $1799
>>581028848
Meanwhile I can afford it. But it wasn't made for me. It was made for normies that will just buy a cheaper quest.
Valve really fucked up
So... now what?
>>581029034
>Apple locks down the face and eye tracking so no one has currently found a way to get around that.
I will shill the GXR, but pretty sure people have got the AVP face tracking working with Linux funnily enough.
>>581029239

>>581031531
The gobular cluster mod is very comparable for the GXR. In fact I wear the thing 5-6 hours a day and barely even notice I’m wearing it. The only downside is the knob to tighten it is on the back so you have to get a little creative with how you sit against a wall or lay down
>b-but muh face tracking and eye tracking
>b-but my fov rendering
we can't even have retro-compatible controllers that don't break or start having issues such as drifting and you guys want stupid shit that doesn't add anything of value to a vr headset.
I rather have a solid VR headset with decent controllers than have one with extra features or gimmicks that don't have real use at least for now.
>>581027917
oh my god i recognize you, you were such a pain in the general, the frame is going to bring in so many problem people just like this

Honestly, I think that's overkill. If you're decent with a sewing machine, a piece of foam that you sew a bit of velcro ontop and cover in any of the generic ice-silk fabrics, or just buy from the chinks at VRpanda, to replace the stock cushion which they made the baffling decision to not put any real fucking padding onto, was enough for me. I do agree that laying down is a bit of an annoyance, but I got one of those lounge pillows that keeps your head from laying flat and it's fine now.

Is anyone here using aftermarket face tracking and or eye tracking with a Quest 3? What should I be going for since im giving up on the frame
Mic is Vive tier, what a joke. How'd they fuck this up after the index mic being so good?
>>581032968
So many retards, especially on twitter, have been screeching about that not being a big deal. But thats literally half the reason why I've kept using my index since launch despite it barely holding together these days. I've cannibalized at least 3 broken ones trying to keep it running.
>>581033217
software will fix this
trust the plan
very sad about the frame, quest 3 won 3 years ago already
>>581033217
They said before that it's a similar setup to Index. I'm guessing they just murdered the bitrate to improve latency or wireless performance or something. Should be pretty easily fixable.
someone should rip out the index mic and put it in the frame somehow
To anyone interested you will have many add-ons to buy and probably what many of you repulsive fags want is wired mode and it will have it.
Core module can be separated from the strap and that module is basically your main shit. Additional modules will be sold:
>"pro" module with better audio, straps, bigger battery and some other secret stuff (DP, face tracking wink wink)
>wired module that is basicity a DP connected to you PC and it also connects to power, like index, cheaper than pro
And many other kits are planned
It's not Slay the Spire but it looks exactly like what I was thinking about

Gamer's Nexus already mentioned an enthusiast strap that has hot-swappable batteries and Index-style BMR audio. Would be cool to see a full wired strap though, even if it's just for power and still uses streaming.

Yes. Valve doesn’t ship two of the same hardware to the same address people had this issue with the controller. Blame scalpers.

Tuesday's movie is Death Becomes Her
https://letterboxd.com/film/death-becomes-her/
Madeline is married to Ernest, who was once her arch-rival Helen’s fiancé. After recovering from a mental breakdown, Helen vows to kill Madeline and steal back Ernest. Unfortunately for everyone, the introduction of a magic potion causes things to be a great deal more complicated than a mere murder plot.

changed the way the arm control works to in-cockpit parkable controllers you can let go/grab again, so you can poke stuff in the cockpit. I think that works a bit better than the toggle.
>>581032682
I would agree with all of this, if the prices weren’t double the competition while having worse hardware in almost every category.
>>581034679
I would absolutely NEVER fuck with chinkshit aftermarket eye trackers.
That's a one way ticket to literally blinding yourself or otherwise causing permanent eye damage if you're unlucky.

>>581035061
I always wanted to pay extra for a quest pro 2 (that does nto exist) if they existed WITHOUT fucking facebook spying on everything i do.
This is it, i pay extra and get that a no spying from zuck cuck and some extras even like pcie slot for fun projects.
So with "competition" you pay just not with money.
For fags who do not care about privacy this is a good news as if next quest 4 or a pro come out with eye tracking they will have to cost less than steam frame to to be competitive.
I cant see any idiot paying 999 for quest pro 2 / quest 4 when they can buy no spy version for little emore

>>581036142
aftermarket eyetrackers only work with VRC, they do not integrate with the VR system, they just send OSC messages
>>581033968
I even tried Steam Link but doesn't seem to be a streamer runtime issue. Kinda my fault for not checking I could actually swap weapons on the server before. Oh well. You guys have fun.
>>581035989
Look I wish privacy was a thing as much as the next guy, I really do. But when every game tracks you, your isp tracks you, the very website we are using right now tracks you, and even your vpn lies about not tracking you, your phone tracks you, your car tracks you, and now even your television when turned off tracks you, you already lost the privacy war.
I appreciate valve directly not tracking me, but everything else around their service still does

Privacy is a fight. My tv, car, phone, etc do not track me.

Aside from the mild upgrade in visual quality, the main consideration is hardware longevity. There is likely to be a time in the not-too-distant future when finding e.g. replacement controllers, new cables or new base stations will just not be possible unless someone new picks up the mantle. The frame is both likely to be supported for longer and has some genuine benefits in that the controllers no longer rely on built-in batteries that will eventually die and the tracking no longer relies on base stations with moving parts.

>>581052437
more 6dof translation/maneuvering. While holding the shield/sword 'hand controllers' you can still do planar maneuvering/boost with the joysticks on the actual controllers (but have to pick whether you do up/down translation or pitch on right joystick Y axis). All angular velocity gets damped fast (minovsky particles 'n shit), maybe could keep some autistic sim mode in where it's not.
>>581051921
If you're using SteamVR through VD it should work, but if you're using a standalone OpenXR runtime then no.

also a sort of jank 'scope' when you "look down the sights" of the rifle. Not sure if I like it over e.g. vox machinae's scope popup screen, but very easy to slop up prototypes and just see how they feel.

The Steam Frame release really hit home how much AI is reducing quality of life.
It's like 50% more expensive than it would've been without the RAM and storage crisis, meanwhile there are less people who can even afford these kinds of toys because their jobs are being taken over by AI, which in turn means there's less incentive to cater to this niche.
I miss pomnianon
Frame should have been dedicated PCVR and three decision not to go that route killed vr gaming forever. Thanks valve. You suck.
>>581054275
me neither anon I'm just thinking of what's cool. I figure you could go just about any direction between arcade and simulator. I think most relevant to you from VTOL is stuff like the targeting pod head tracking and some sort of 360/3D missile or threat warning

Frame should have been a dedicated PCVR. Agreed.
>>581054670

>>581064991
I say this as someone who thinks the Frame is fucking retarded and has been, and will continue, to shit on it. It is an upgrade to the Q3, but it's not a 1,000 dollar upgrade by any measure. If you've got the techbro money printer and lack something to spend it on, you're not lighting your money on fire getting one to play with, but I do think that it's a very dumb purchase if you at all care about your money because you should either stick with your Q3 or get one of the various much more significant upgrades already on the market.
>>581057504
>Curious about Skyrim VR
Its fine.
Needs a lot of mods to get it working good.
>>581066326
>If you've got the techbro money printer and lack something to spend it on
this is me at the moment to be honest
ive got a quest pro and im very tempted to get a frame to be back in the steam ecosystem as well as not have to worry about my drifting controllers anymore (after replacing the thumbsticks 3 times now)
honestly i dont know what other headset would be an upgrade over the quest pro that i already have, but being able to rejoin the ecosystem seems like a pretty great pro to me
>>581066598
Galaxy XR would be the actual major improvement over the QPro, and while mine does have it's annoyances, the only time I've ever been tempted to go back to my Q3 was to use the Quest controllers for playing ITR without burning my Knuckle's thumbsticks remaining time.
I've said this many times, but while the sticker price on the thing is absurd, you can easily get 20% off of it with zero waiting, and Samsung is almost always running a promotion which also stacks with the mil/edu discount which you can get by just having a friend with one of those help you. With a 20% discount from those, and another 10% if you're willing to waste 10 minutes calling their support to threaten to return it, you're looking at 4k OLED at 90hz with eye and face tracking for a pricetag that's somewhere around the 1TB frame once you add controllers to the XR. It's not perfect, but it is very good for PCVR unless you want to gamble on one of the chink options, whether that's PFD or continuing to be a waitfag for the Pico Swan before committing.
>>581067132
Your purchase is funny and identifiable:
First wait for a sale
Then get a military discount
Then call customer support and angrily complain about it
THEN it's worth it
lmao
>>581065187
1 for R while D watches and 5 for L
Is there even a single reason to get the frame to replace my index? To me it looks like more of the same but with worse accessories
How do I stop getting overwhelmed and drained over literally nothing?
do the controllers have all the gimmicks the index controller does? this determines my purchase or not

Its been awhile. Might be that time again I guess.
I mean I entered in the 256GB raffle, but I'm a bit unsure. Is it still too early to tell, or are these reviewers a good source? I still can't find any info about simracing. Obviously Linux support is cucked. Maybe the streaming would be fine and not a blurry laggy piece of shit? I'm wondering if I'll be getting better framerates compared to a wired PCVR headset though, or does the Frame render the exact same thing and it just streams it? The G2 for example I think had to make you render a much higher resolution because of the lens design or some shit.
The VRC flight week map is wonderful, the unabashed love for the military industrial complex brings a tear to my eye. I don't think it's a coincidence it ends on the day Ace Combat 8 has the advanced access begin.
I'll take a moment to also shill Skyward Flight Media which does a lot of writing on VR flight games and even on specific VRC worlds.
https://www.skywardfm.com/post/vrchat-flight-week-2026-why-it-matters
>>581067183
I don't understand your point. I don't give a fuck that there's some people I've talked about doing this who can cross reference it with these posts, especially since it actually proves the point that I own one and am not just mindlessly shilling, and cheaper is always better then giving Samsung extra money.
>>581067960
Yea, eyetracking on it is amazing, I thought I would hate gaze and pinch as an OS but it actually works really well for anything less precise then typing on a keyboard, and foveated streaming is a major game changer. I can push my bitrate down to like 100 mbps within VD to minimize the latency penalties of using AV1 encoding, and the only substantial artifacting I notice is gray banding when looking a 0,0,0 black screen like the void when you're loading into the pool parlor in VRC, while regular dark scenes still look fine, and some small shimmer in the periphiral because VD doesn't apply a blur like Steam Link does. Steam Link looks even prettier because the hacked API made by the community pushes super resolution within the foveated region, but has some issues atm. Funnily enough, I was reading today and there's a Valve dev in the community discord that's working on making Steam Link work for the XR and he wants to piggyback off their work.
Face tracking also works super well, it's issues lay mosty in how it does the tracking universe; VD and AndroidXR combining their shitty programming to be fucking miserable at points, which is why I've been following the Steam Link apk development; and a lot of very basic QoL VR stuff like room boundaries
1059 USD is 918 EUR...

while i am tempted, going from an index to a quest pro kindve burned me out on leaving the steam-o-sphere and having everything just work, no 3rd party finagling needed or steamlink/virtualdesktop juggling hoping that the version for my headset will be fine
my biggest complaints with the quest pro is steamlink only giving so much bitrate and VD never working well for me in various reasons, and comfort/weight, all of which seem to be fixable with the frame
i dont need 4k realistically, 2k per eye is fine so long as i can get good bitrate, OLED would be nice but not a dealbreaker
also steam support i know is reliable vs meta telling me to go fuck myself and probably samsung or pico at some point doing the same

>does the majority here use the standalone client or PCVR to play VRChat? Does PCVR have more features and allow for easier modding?
>Am I correct under the assumption that 99% of Windows PCVR players are using the SteamVR runtime (Steam Link, ALVR, VirtualDesktop-SteamVR) and not Meta Horizon Link? Any differences there?
>Is there no way to launch VRChat with an OpenXR runtime/compability layer like VDXR/OpenComposite/Monado on Windows due EAC? And the reason exactly this works on Linux with WiVRn+XRizer is because EAC works differently (user mode only) on Linux?

1. I think it's about 50:50, but we're WAY above average. The steam VR average is like 70:30 standalone:wired.
2. Most use virtualdesktop. Those who use pico tend to use their runtime since that works fine, and those who plug a cable in tend to use meta link since it supports the cable.
3. uhhh there's no EAC on linux builds basically

>>581079272
>does the majority here use the standalone client or PCVR to play VRChat? Does PCVR have more features and allow for easier modding?
Nobody's using standalone. Everyone's on PCVR. PCVR can access more/better worlds, and better avatars. Modding isn't really a thing anymore.
>Am I correct under the assumption that 99% of Windows PCVR players are using the SteamVR runtime (Steam Link, ALVR, VirtualDesktop-SteamVR) and not Meta Horizon Link? Any differences there?
Vast majority are SteamVR due to QoL with overlays and extensions (XSOverlay, OVR Advanced Settings, VRHandsFrame, etc.)
>Is there no way to launch VRChat with an OpenXR runtime/compability layer like VDXR/OpenComposite/Monado on Windows due EAC? And the reason exactly this works on Linux with WiVRn+XRizer is because EAC works differently (user mode only) on Linux?
There may be a way, perhaps with the Oculus PC version of VRChat (is that even still a thing?) but I just don't think anyone really bothers. Only potential benefit is slightly better performance but the tradeoff is again the QoL you get with SteamVR extensions and overlays, since there's no alternative stack on Windows for that (like there is with WayVR etc. on Linux)
>Are there working examples or ongoing attempts of using VRChat with Passthrough and depth occlusion for real Mixed Reality? I do not care about chroma key methods, only real depth testing and occlusion.
You may very well be the only one here who would give a fuck about this. Have at it.
>Any custom SteamVR overlays or layers you guys run?
The two major ones are XSOverlay (or OVR Toolkit) for nicer desktop access and OVR Advanced Settings for Playspace Mover functionality and some more advanced tinkering/debug with pairing. Popular but less common: VRHandsFrame for live translation, capturing GIFs, and goofy AI image commentary. Tons of other more niche ones like OyasumiVR for sleepers, Turn signal for wired setups, etc.

It seems that your privacy at that level is worth the 300€ (pre RAM crisis) meta is not charging you. Anyone agreeing with meta terms is probably ok with qhoring himself out as long as he's drugged.
Damn, every gun prefab I'm looking at on booth is either extremely over the top and requires extensive use of different gestures on both hands (which my index can't do reliably) and is also taking up as many resources as half an avatar by itself somehow, or is so extremely rudimentary that it only works on menu toggles, and it feels like it's impossible to find anything inbetween that just fires when the trigger is pressed when held in the hand.

>You may very well be the only one here who would give a fuck about this. Have at it.
Are you sure about that? Just so you know: You can clamp the depth data from passthrough sensors to max 1m/40inches. The result being that anything beyond 1m (your arms reach) is always virtual reality while anything within the range gets depth tested with real reality. The artificially limited depth range (0.2m -1m) results in very precise depth data resistent to encoding artifacts. visualizing sleeves, gloves, rings or even fur over your real hands/arms suddenly becomes feasible and very realistic looking. and if you attach a tracker to a real reality object and sync it in vrchat with osc or whatever, you can do some cool things. wish I had a good example now. unfortunately all I can think of is attaching a tracker to my dog and giving him virtual lazer turrets that appear mounted on his back, while the non occluded part of the dog (like his head, legs, tail and lower body) are still visible. then have some virtual foes approaching which are targeted and destroyed by the virtual lazer turrets. but I guess it only makes sense if we have VR headsets for dogs as well. (obviously a joke, this would be animal abuse)

Don't be a jerk. You absolutely can not give a fuck about privacy but that does not ones who do are in any way inferior to you.
Quest 3 is like ~700 EUR here. Steam Frame is ~1200. I'd gladly pay for a quest 3 pro (regular Q3 + eye tracking and no zuck tracking) 200-300 EUR more, so 1000 EUR if it existed and that's close to steam frame.
Steam Frame is that and more for additional 200~. Simple math for me and seems more that just worth it.

Privacy is not a yes/no. It's as spectrum. You can absolutely lower your fingerprint A LOT. Example is buying steam frame over quest3(pro) for more money.
But yes, total privacy is a pipe dream if you wanna stay connected to modern world but you can always make choices.
Steam/epic game/gog?
meta quest/steam headset?
random android phone/linux phone?
windows/linux? etc
No choice is "bad" unless you you want more privacy and choose, windows over linux for example. But if someone is ok with windows privacy issue, that it fine choice as well.
Like ive said- id pay extra for a headset that is more private and has all important things i need and Steam Frame fits that.

Still uses a deprecated method of overlaying the AVP persona feed into VRCFT. Very scuffed and doesn't track many parameters, it is "window dependent". What does that mean? It means that the persona feed exists as a window in the AVP system, where you need to constantly face it if you don't want to lose tracking. If you move your head away and the tracking starts tracking your persona wrong because you moved the head, it will get very fucked, more than it already is by default, until you leave and rejoin ALVR. Pro is, it takes just a handful of seconds to restart, but still is very finicky.
At the current moment, the only thing you can do is literally beg apple to allow third parties to access the ARkit face tracking data. Been doing that every other month.
https://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-vision-pro/
Really sucks because it is objectively the best headset hardware wise.

Not as of yet, though valve is supposedly working on it.

yes, also much more versatility in what you can do with it.
>It gets hot I think?
no, gamers nexus tested the thermals and they were superior to the quest 3. The air vent gets hot, but that's the point. All the parts that might touch your face are cooler.
>Streaming gives better FPS compared to wired PCVR?
No? why would it? Streaming adds overhead for encoding/decoding and transportation, so you'll always end up with higher latency compared to a displayport connection.

>>581090209
A higher laser power will shorten the life of the laser diode. Turning it down increases the life, but the trackers have weaker signals to use: HOWEVER, the default value is too high for like 99% of people.
>>581090324
Erm, so by that logic higher power means better tracking.
>>581090739
The diodes in your trackers either get a clear signal or they don't ; if they get a clear signal then more power won't help. There might even be more noise. Turn them up if you want but it will reduce the life of your lighthouses. I recommend turning them down and seeing if tracking is the same for... more years of diode life.
>>581090209
Because the default laser power is way too high for the majority of users and the most common failure is a laser burnout.
I've had all mine reduced by 20 down to 60 for over a year and never noticed a difference in quality of tracking.

>>581091987

Onboard storage will always be faster than expanded storage but also SteamOS is immutable so you can't install packages/apps like a regular linux distro would let you do, you can install flatpacks and that's about it.
You can technically enable read/write access on the root partition but most changes gets erased after a system update.

Why would the 1TB list gives more chances of getting a frame when scalpers can have as many accounts on both list?
>>581099602
you can only join one list
>>581099595
I buy on GOG whenever there's a choice, but the valve burgers are objectively better than the meta jews or the pico chinks
Ok so if not Frame and not Quest then what? What other headsets are there available on the market now or soon-ish (within next 6 months) that offer better value? BSB2? Whatever chinesium headsets Xi dropships to harvest our data?
>>581100391
Wait for Pico Swan or buy a Quest 3
>>581099602
Because they can't. If the accounts share any addresses or payment details, or aren't old enough, or have any fake addresses or 'card generator' services that scalpers use they get disqualified. Best a pro scalper does is farm real people to submit requests for them.
And you can ONLY choose the 256 or the 1TB. You can't sign up for both.
Second:
In japan they didn't do a lotto. The 256GB sold out in ~4 hours. the 1TB sold out ~6-8 hours later.
The demand for 256GB is WAY higher than the supply for 256GB.

I like it but expect to spend 15% more making it reasonably comfortable. Glare is pretty bad on dark backgrounds with objects but I'm using the modded gasket and lens inserts and have mostly gotten used to it. The cables are like, 3 feet too short for comfy moving gaming so I got a 1m extension that has worked perfectly. Speakers aren't great but good enough. Mic isn't good.
It's insanely pretty though, no screen door, no looking through goggles vision, and it's a peak experience after you jump through comfort hoops. I have some minor jitter inconsistently when looking between two of my base stations and I have no clue what's causing it so it might be the headset itself like the video anon posted. But it isn't constant so idk for sure.

In /vrg/, PCVR is the overwhelming majority. For total population, the opposite. PCVR is far better. Neither option is modding-friendly.
>Are there working examples or ongoing attempts of using VRChat with Passthrough and depth occlusion for real Mixed Reality? I do not care about chroma key methods, only real depth testing and occlusion.
There are a couple anons who have worked on things along this line.
It's someone difficult to get direct scene data out of vrchat, but one guy around here does a shader-based depth read of vrchat scenes, used so that external overlay content can be occluded by the vrc scene.
If you're asking about using something like q3's passthrough and irl depth maps to do occlusion, that's pretty straightforward to do with q3 standalone applications but idk if anyone has done like a full integration with vrchat. Probably workable if you fork alvr or something and run it in combination with the aforemention vrchat depth reading techniques.

Last month I've decided to try Steam Link instead of VD or Meta Link because it supports USB now.

It's a Linux server on your head!
This latest steamvr update that changed the UI has caused me to crash a lot more. Any way to revert to the previous version?
>>581114532
No thanks
>>581101194
I have neck pain, too. Is it because I'm getting older or because I got zuccd?
>>581114720
That's great then. The G2 isn't clear enough, and it's too bright.
>>581115064
yes, just like any other game beta, just click on "betas" in steamvr properties
>>581115171
Bro, we here were VRing for years almost a decade starting with headsets as unbalanced as HTC Vive. Your light as fuck quest isn't gonna do shit.
>all these chrome users
>>581115967
I'll stop using it when ublock completely stops working
>>581115967
you use windows
>>581116142
You don't?
>>581117696
no i use linux except when im forced to use mac
>>581117696
i do, but it's ironic for a windows user to call out someone for using chrome

>You can't tell the difference between a 4k, 2k, and 1k texture in vr.
Maybe if you're still using a CV1 rift.

I would like to inquire for some barefoot sole pictures from this delightful event.
>>581118256
Maybe you should have showed up
Just watched Gamer Nexus Steam Frame review and now understand WHY the Meta Quest is so damn cheap. Like I knew they took data to subsidize but JESUS CHRIST. Makes me look at my Quest so differently lol.
>>581118526
just disable wifi and use it wired
How do people sleep in vr without either the cord snagging on something or the battery running out in wireless? I could see a nap but a full nights sleep seems difficult.

Learn to not sleep on the cable

i don't know how the government can hold platforms responsible for these problems but i do propose the following legislation at the federal or international law level for pedophile suspects:
1. physical castration. both penis and balls
2. ban from using the internet and also from telephones and possibly other two-way communication technologies
3. legalized euthanasia option to anyone who wants it
>>581120703
oy vey, cool it with the antisemitism
>>581119037
Don't roll around when you're sleeping.
if valve had made an OLED version instead of a 1TB version as the $1,299 offering I would've bought that.
Steam Deck has an oled version too, why can't ze freym.
>>581119037
Quest cable is on the left side. I sleep comfortably on my right side. Shrimple as.
Anyone baking a new bread?
>>581120703
just ban jews from operating in your country, solves 90% of all problems

For free? That'd be a godsend to our dear friends at trans academy.

I feel like I roll probably at least 720 degrees total in a given night.
wow the steam frame microphone is yucky they should just use the index one
>>581126249
you'll have to watch a review where they didn't use compressed steam chat

>It's someone difficult to get direct scene data out of vrchat, but one guy around here does a shader-based depth read of vrchat scenes, used so that external overlay content can be occluded by the vrc scene.
Yep that's me. It's is still unfortunately difficult, kind of at the edge of feasibility. The least bad technique I could think of was a shader that you add to your avatar that smuggles the depth buffer (plus scene info like worldspace camera pose/stereo eye separation/local lighting probe) into the corners of the submitted frame to openVR. Which at least on my machine (bigmeme 2), those corners aren't actually visible in the headset (they're there if you look at the corners though/really press your eyes up to the lens), but you can still read them back using the mirror capture in steamvr (and then use as a depth buffer/clip in the overlay). It's almost cool but comes with a bunch of caveats. Another path that I explored was that openvr/steamvr technically has a way for the scene application to submit its own depth buffer (for more accurate reprojection mostly); However, vrchat doesn't submit this, so you're still SOL.
Slopcode for this is https://github.com/hiinaspace/vrchat-scene-probe if you want to try extending it. Also related >>581022924 is a mod-based approach for other games like vtol. There's some earlier (2018) vrchat avatars that do a 180/360 panosphere recording in the same way by iirc voxelkei, could see if that's useful.
